NERVE CELLSNerve cells are all over our

body, more than trillions. The nervous system is made up of neurons which are specialized cells. There are approximately 100 billion neurons just in our brain. They are similar to other cells on the body because they have a nucleus, cell membrane and cytoplasm. Neurons are very long and can send information (transmit electrical signals) up to 300km/s.

Function of Nerve Cell

• Send electrical signals/chemical messages to muscles and other cells from neuron to neuron or neuron to target cell to communicate.

• Sensory Neurons send impulses into central nervous system.

• Motor Neurons send impulses out of the central nervous system.

GUARD CELLSGuard cells surround each

stoma. The cells are crescent-shaped epidermal cells. They are located at the leaf epidermis in plants and during warm conditions they close, cutting water loss because of evaporation.

Function of Guard Cell

• Control stomata• Control gas exchange and water loss• Regulate the speed of transpiration by opening and closing the stoma
