COURSE DESCRIPTIONThis program is designed for physicians and specialists caring for neonatal and pediatric patients with severe acute cardiac and/or respiratory failure who may be candidates for Extracorporeal Life Support.

LEARNING OBJECTIVESAs a result of participating in this activity, clinicians (physicians, surgeons, APNs, perfusionists, ECMO specialists) will be able to recognize indications and contraindications, cannulation techniques, initiation of support, patient and circuit physiology of ECMO, programmatic design and management, and all aspects of patient management and decision making for patients on ECMO. The goal is to immerse the learner in ECLS terminology and concepts in the simulation lab to complement the didactic course and enhance the learning process. In the conference simulation workshop, small groups will participate in scenarios reviewing emergency procedures and highlighting ECLS physiology. Simulation education will allow participants to develop skills in common bedside procedures and to learn key assessments for decision making by “hands on” experience. The course is appropriate for centers setting up new programs, or for existing centers expanding into neonatal and pediatric ECMO.

COURSE REGISTRATIONFees: The course fee is $2,000 which includes both lecture and simulation. If you would like to attend the lecture only portion of this course the registration fee is $650. This fee includes all course material including ELSO Red Book, ECMO Specialists Training Manual, breakfast & lunches on conference days, and a group dinner one evening.

Registration: Advance registration is required and should be received by January 11, 2013. All registration received by this date will be confirmed in writing. Registration is limited and will be honored in the order of the date received.

To register with a check: Return the completed registration form with full payment using check (payable to Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children) to the Continuing Medical Education Office, duPont Hospital for Children, PO Box 269, Wilmington, DE 19899.

To register with a credit card: If you are paying by Master Card, VISA, American Express or Discover Card, please complete the registration form found online at www.pedsuniversity.org

Cancellation Policy: A refund, less a $100 processing fee, will be given for WRITTEN cancellations received before January 15, 2013. No refunds will be given after this date. Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children is not responsible for any cancellation or change fees assessed by hotels, airlines or travel agencies.

Disclosure Policy: As a provider accredited by the ACCME, Nemours must ensure balance, independence, objectivity and scientific rigor in its educational activities. All faculty involved in the development of CME content are required to disclose to Nemours their relevant financial relationships. An individual has a relevant financial relationship if he or she has a financial relationship in any amount occurring in the last 12 months with a commercial interest whose products or services are discussed in the CME activity content over which the individual has control.
