Product DescriptionThe "Freedom Series" starters featurea compact, space-saving design, usingstate-of-the-art technology and thelatest in high strength, impact andtemperature resistant insulatingmaterials. Starters are available in tworating/configuration styles — NEMA(National Electrical ManufacturersAssociation) and IEC (InternationalElectrotechnical Commission). TheNEMA devices are sized based ontraditional NEMA classifications andthe IEC devices on internationalratings. Internationally rated starters,as compared to NEMA devices,generally are physically down-sized toprovide higher ratings in a smallerpackage. However, electrical load/liferatings are correspondingly reduced.

Careful consideration should be givento the selection of the proper devicefor a specific application. Parameters,such as type of load, severity of duty,electrical load/life cycles required, etc.,must be evaluated before choosingeither the IEC or NEMA designs. Sincethe IEC devices are typically smallerthan the equivalent NEMA device,there is a cost advantage over theNEMA starters and contactors.

for application in both the IEC andNEMA markets. "Two lines, Onefamily" — the best of both worlds.

• Adjustable Bimetallic AmbientCompensated Overload Relays withinterchangeable heater packs —available in three basic sizes,covering applications up to 900 hp— reducing the number of differentcontactor/overload relay combi-nations that have to be stocked.Fixed heater overloads optional.

• A full line of snap-on accessoriescommon to both IEC and NEMAdevices — top and side mountedauxiliary contacts, solid-state andpneumatic timers, etc.

• Straight-through wiring — line lugsat top, load lugs at bottom.

• Horizontal or vertical mounting on•^-^upright panel for application freedom.

• Screw type power terminals havecaptive, backed-out self-liftingpressure plates with ± screws —reduced wiring time.

• Accessible terminals for easywiring. Optional fingerproof shieldsavailable to prevent electrical shock.

• Top located coil terminalsconvenient and readily accessible.45 mm contactor magnet coils havethree terminals, permitting eithertop or diagonal wiring — easy toreplace European or U.S. stylestarters or contactors withoutchanging wiring layout.

• Encapsulated dual voltage/frequency magnet coils — perma-nently marked with voltage, fre-quency and part number. IEC sizes A- F have non-encapsulated coils asstandard, encapsulated as optional.

• Designed to meet or exceed NEMA,•̂""UL, CSA, IEC, VDE, BS and other

Standards and CertificationsCertified Type 2 CoordinationCutler-Hammer Freedom Series IECstarters and NEMA starters are ULCertified to achieve IEC 947 Type 2coordination against 100,OOOA shortcircuit fault currents. Any brand ofproperly selected fuse can be used.Type 2 coordination means that thestarter will be suitable for further usefollowing a short circuit fault.
