, it was decided thatto have a high-rise co-op. In
that year, the Canadian Union ofsent Stan Adelman , as a ield worker,
to help the group find money and athe long project ahead. The first thing
was a building from whichould operate to gain some experience
capital. Ryerson offered its property
at 325 Church Street, a building slated fordemolition, to be used as a residence. Afterselecting a site, the Co-op then needed amortgage.On Christmas Eve, 1968, a $5.4 million dollarmortgage was finally approved by the CHMC.Many problems arose , but the building finallyopened and by August 15, 1970, all the spotswere filled.SO WHO ISnR .nEILL eWVCIH?Well , the building was actually named afterthree individuals: Wycik was the last name ofAurilee and Raymond Wycik, two warm heartedindividuals who ran a small cafeteria inRyerson's Kerr Hall. Wycik College sounded alot like Wycliffe College, adivinity school at theUniversity of Toronto so Kathy then suggestedadding on A.S.Neill's name. Neill was thePrincipal of Summerhill , oneof the most successfulEnglish free schools.The group admired hiswork and the principlebehind a free school'.In December 1986, work began on theMarten's Wing (aka the McGill Wing). Afterseveral delays, the Marten's Wing was openedin January 1988.In 1995, with much fanfare, Neill-Wycikcelebrated its 25th Anniversary and September2000 will mark our 30th Aniversary!

member but now has a new title (andnew responsibilities!) as President.Kerri use to head up the Member
Relations Committee (aka MRC) and hashad experience as an RA.
Cordell [ Vice-President]member for two and ahalf years, Martin. started as a Hotel Night Auditor and has
. since been an RA, Hotel Sales Managerand most recently Bookkeeper. He is a
Data Administrator, acts as Vice -Presidentand SAC Chair and attends Ryerson part-time
Martin is a grad of Humber 'sprogram and enjoys paying his immensely
loan payments while still payinghis current studies (oh ,yeah!)
[ Corporate Secretary]A second year board member, Melanie , a
recent graduate of sociology at YorkUniversity , will gladly lend a helpinghand to any and all members. She is
also chair of the Movie Committee and isadie-hard sci-fi fan .
Hollands [ Board Member]Sarah is a new member to the board thisyear. In the Fall , she will be attendingher last year of school at the OntarioCollege of Art and Design where she
studies Printmaking and Book Arts .Sarah was also given aspecial award at last
Annual General Meeting (AGM) to recognize hereffort as avolunteer.
Dave Michaud [ Member Liaison Officer]David joined the Board after having been
elected at this year 's AGM . David hasbeen amember at Wycik for three yearsand has been laying low for the most
part. He has assisted RAs and the boardfor numerous Wycik events. You 'll never gethim to admit it in person but David is also responsible for
last year's orientation video. He is pleased to be a partof the board where he hopes to serve the members tothe best of his abilities.
Jason Levesque [Board Member]A ormer RA, he was elected to the board in
1997. Acolourful individual, Jason is THEpromoting genius of Wycik . He has anamazing ability to rally people to a cause .
His sense of humour &charming ways havemade him a avourite character in the building .
