Winter Drama - “Secret in the Wings” Mary Zimmerman’s The Secret in the Wings adapts a group of lesser-known fairy tales to create a theatrical work that sets their dark mystery against wit and humor. The framing story concerns a child and the frightening babysitter with whom her parents leave her. As the babysitter reads from a book, the characters in each of the tales materialize, with each tale breaking off just at its bleakest moment before giving way to the next one.

NHS will be presenting the play on Thursday, Jan. 30, Friday, Jan. 31 and Saturday, Feb. 1 at 7:00 pm, and Sunday, Feb. 2 at 2:00 pm in Pickard Auditorium.

Tickets are available online or at the door: $10.00 for adults, $8.00 for children or seniors.

Student Visitors: The Armstrong office handles student visitor requests. A student may visit Neenah High School if they wish to experience Campus life here at NHS with the intent of possible enrollment. A visitor may attend for ½ day. The date must be scheduled one week in advance, and a form needs to be completed which includes parent/guardian and NHS teacher signatures, and administrator approval. No shadows are approved the first two weeks of the semester beginning, and the last two weeks of the semester. Please contact Sharayah Preman at [email protected] or 751-6900 ext. 16104 with any requests.

Access to Parent Portal: If you are having problems checking your child’s grades and missing assignments in the Parent Portal, email a request for your Campus Portal Activation Key to [email protected]. Your activation key will be emailed to you, along with instructions on how to proceed.

Report Cards - In keeping with the NJSD efforts to reduce costs, parents will use the Infinite Campus Parent Portal to view and print their student’s report cards online. If you do not have access to a computer, and you need a report card mailed to you, call us at 751-6900, ext. 16116 and speak with Mrs. Pam Buss.

Health Services - If a student must leave class because of an illness (non-emergency), he/she must receive a pass from his/her teacher to go to the Health Office. School policy states that if students become ill or suffer an injury that requires them to go home for additional care, they must check out of school through the health aide, with parental consent. Students should notify a teacher or supervisor immediately if an injury occurs on campus. For further clarification of services, please consult our health nurse, Ms. Sarah Ebel, at 751-6900, ext. 16113.

Looking Ahead… February EventsNational Honor Society will be sponsoring a Winter Blood Drive with the Community Blood Center on  Thursday, February 13 from 7:30 - 3:00 PM. Blood donors must be at least 17 years old, or 16 with parental permission. Sign up sheets will be available in mid-January.

There is a PLD Day on Monday, February 17; there is no school for students that day.

Parent-Teacher Conferences will be held Monday, Feb. 24 from 4 - 8 pm, Wednesday, Feb. 26 from 4 - 8 pm and Friday, Feb. 28 from 1 - 4 pm. There is a 12:10 dismissal for all students on Friday, Feb. 28.

Project Starfish Project Starfish funding is available to help economically challenged students pay for field trips, club or program fees, instrument rental, sports gear, equipment needed for extracurricular activities, yearbooks, school supplies, and many other school related expenses. Students interested in obtaining funds to help cover these costs should pick up a Starfish form in the Armstrong office. In return, the Starfish program asks that students who receive funding “pay it forward” with some type of volunteer service of their choosing at NHS. For more information, contact Associate Principal Bill Richardson at 751-6900 ext. 16105 or [email protected]

Winter Parking Reminder

If you normally park in the front parking lot (Lot B) in the row that faces Tullar Road, please remember that you WILL get a ticket if you park on the snow banks. You may only park in that area if the entire parking space is clear of snow. If the snow plough has pushed piles of snow into the spaces that face Tullar road, you MAY NOT park there until all that snow has melted. Every year there are several students with 4x4’s or trucks who think they can park up on the snowbanks, but that will not be allowed, and the resulting ticket will be at least $16.00. X
