NU Hosts First Big Ten Match Against Iowa, Faces Shockers The Huskers are set to host their first Big Ten opponent of the regular season when they welcome No. 70 Iowa on Friday, March 14 at 3 p.m. before playing No. 46 Wichita State on Saturday, March 15 at 2 p.m. in Lincoln, Neb. at the Nebraska Tennis Center. Nebraska sits at 8-4 overall after a double-win weekend last week with a 5-2 and 4-3 victory over Wyoming and Miami (Ohio), respectively. Nebraska and Iowa have met 22 times throughout history with Nebraska trailing in the series 8-14, hoping to push that mark closer to .500 with this weekend’s dual. NU and Wichita State have met 28 times in history with Nebraska leading the series 19-10. Huskers In The ITA National Rankings Nebraska remained out of the ITA Top 75 when the new rankings were released on Tuesday, March 11. With wins over No. 70 Iowa and No. 46 Wichita State, NU could see their berth back into the list. There are seven Big Ten teams in the ITA Top 75 and these teams are No. 9 Northwestern, No. 13 Michigan, No. 31 Purdue, No. 44 Indiana, No. 48 Illinois, No. 56 Ohio State, and No. 70 Iowa. Michigan and Northwestern are the only two Big Ten teams inside the top 25. Scouting the Iowa Hawekeyes Head Coach: Katie Dougherty 2013 Record: 11-13, 3-8 Big Ten Ranking: 70 The Hawkeyes are currently No. 70 in the national rankings with one ranked singles player in No. 86 Ruth Seaborne and no doubles players in the ITA rankings. Iowa went 11-13 in 2013 and 3-8 in the Big Ten Conference. Iowa didn’t qualify for the NCAA Tournament and were knocked out of the Big Ten Tournament in the second round by a 4-2 loss to Michigan. Scouting the Wichita State Shockers Head Coach: Colin Foster 2013 Record: 15-11, 7-0 MVC Ranking: 46 The Shockers are currently No. 46 in the national ITA Top 75 rankings with no ranked singles or doubles players. WSU went 15-11 in 2013 with a 7-0 mark in the Missouri Valley Conference, becoming the MVC Tournament champions. The last match between Nebraska and Wichita State was an NCAA Tournament match in Lincoln, Neb. on Friday, May 10, 2013 that resulted in a 5-0 victory for the Cornhuskers, knocking the Shockers out of the tournament and sending NU to the Sweet 16.

Looking Ahead Following this weekend’s conference opener, Nebraska are set to continue conference play when they travel to Madison, Wis. to face Wisconsin on Friday, March 21 at 3 p.m. before returning home to host Minnesota on Sunday, March 23 at noon at the Nebraska Tennis Center.
