Welcome From the Desk of NGJT Director Joe Canny, PGA We are halfway through the season and have already seen so many highlights. Scoring averages are way down from prior years and we are seeing personal bests at each event. As a PGA Professional it is so great to see such great scoring! I don’t think I could even place in half of these events!!! You all are sticks!!! Way to go and keep working hard!!! We’ve also seen great competition in our TEAM GOLF presented by Five Points Bank outings. We have a lot of new teams for 2015 which are making a run for that NJGT TEAM GOLF Championship Belt. Let’s keep the fireworks going with continued great play and participation. The big news for today is that we will be posting the invitations for each division for the NJGT Championships presented by Stonehouse Golf this evening on NJGT.org. Invitation numbers are based on the size of each division relative to all NJGT Members. For example: if Girls 16+ Division makes up 20% of the NJGT 18-Hole Membership they will receive 20% of the invitations. You can keep up to date on how you stand for the championship points race by visiting NJGT.org. Points are updated daily! Thank you for your continued support of the Nebraska Junior Golf Tour. We wish you a festive Fourth of July weekend and look forward to seeing you at an NJGT event soon! Sincerely, Joe Canny, PGA Junior Golf Director – NJGT (402) 730-8364 [email protected]

We have officially finished our third NJGT GolfTEC
Premier Championship event with one remaining and
are well into the heart of the golf season. Hopefully
the weather has allowed most of you to play in some
tournaments so far as it is a great opportunity to play
competitively outside of the school year. Since we
have had quite of bit of rain this year, here are some
tips for playing golf in the rain.
Keep Your Hands Dry
The most important thing to remember when you play golf when it is raining or wet out is to keep your grips and
hands as dry as you can. Rain gloves are a great investment if you will be playing in tournaments because it’s
inevitable that you will have to play in rain at some point. If you don’t have any or are opposed to rain gloves
keep extra gloves in your bag and make sure they stay dry. An easy way is to keep a Ziploc bag with them in it
and even if the inside of a pocket of your bag gets wet they won’t. With or without rain gloves keeping extra
towels in your bag is a must. Actually towels from home work best because they are generally bigger than a
regular golf towel. They are useful for drying your hands, grips and face in between shots.
Bring a Hat
Rain or shine you should always keep a hat easily accessible. For those of you that don’t wear a hat when you
golf it is helpful to at least keep one in the car or golf bag. If it starts to rain it is the easiest way to keep the rain
out of your eyes and will help tremendously with seeing the ball and overall visibility. When it is hot outside and
the sun is shining it is good to wear a hat so your eyes don’t get the sun exposure as well and will also make it
cooler for you so the sun isn’t shining directly on your face for hours at a time.
Spare Clothes
It is always good to have a spare change of socks. Along with keeping your hands dry it is equally important
your feet get wet and you are walking around it is uncomfortable and it is an easy way to get blisters. Water-
proof shoes and a rain suit or waterproof gear make it a lot easier to keep you dry. There is almost no way to
keep you completely dry so having a spare shirt and pants are good especially for after the round on the way
home so you are not sitting in wet clothes longer than you need to be.
Take Care of Your Clubs
Also make sure to take proper care of your clubs after they get wet. Wipe them down when you get home and
keep your bag and clubs in a place where they can dry. Do not keep them in the car!
If you need assistance with your game make sure to stop by and visit our PGA Professionals and GolfTEC
Certified instructors.

Centura Hills Golf Club is an elite 18-hole golf course in Cairo, Nebraska located just 13 miles from Grand Island. Centura Hills Golf Club provides an excellent countryside golf experience with the 7th as the signature hole and the course’s most challenging due to its length, slope, terrain, native rough, out of bounds and creek
right in front of the green. It begins with a few friendly holes but be careful of ‘Amen Bend’. This is a section of the golf course in which a nearby church shares the view of the creek that bends through the course.
We have reschedule our NJGT event to July 17th and the deadline will now be July 9th. Centura Hills is a wonderful golf course and we hope you can fit it into your summer schedule!

Fitness Facts PGA Sports Academy Fitness Tips
Integrating fitness into your golf training is a great way to improve your mental game, distance, accuracy and endurance. Many of your favorite PGA TOUR Professionals train daily. If you are not working out give it a try. You will be amazed at the results in all areas of your game. If you already train, try incorporating a few of the below exercises into your schedule:
Ax Chop Great for flexibility and strength the Ax Chop works out your hips, back, shoulders and more. Named for its form you want to perform a movement much like chopping wood. You can use a medicine ball, cable system, resistance band or even a big hammer on a rubber surface.
Lateral Lunges Improve your hip power and range of motion by making those traditional lunges move side to side. You can hold this lunge position and pulse for an even deeper workout.
Planks Side planks, front planks, spider planks…they are all great! Hold these planks for 30 seconds or more to give your core a powerful workout that translates well to golf.
Twists Another exercise with a lot of variations. Using weights from resistance bands, cables or medicine balls while standing or sitting increases abdominal strength while working torso flexibility.
With all workout regimens make sure to not push yourself too hard. You want it to be difficult but start slow and work your way up. Also consider using a workout buddy for support both in lifting and motivation.
