Goals Bombard you with a chaotic array of
statistics and photos Bring some order to said chaos Present you with a demographic
breakdown of social media users Set the stage for other presenters
Sites We’ll Talk About Facebook Twitter Pinterest Instagram
I Bet You Didn’t Know That… Adults, age 18-29, comprise the largest
group of social media users Facebook is the most popular social
media site, with over two-thirds of internet users reporting they are on the site
Twitter Percentage of internet users on Twitter
has doubled since 2010 More popular among people living in
cities More popular among African-Americans
and Hispanics (26% and 19%) Some of you may even be live-tweeting
this as we speak…
Pinterest More popular among women than men
(15% of women; 5% of men internet-users on the site)
More popular among white people than African-Americans or Hispanics
Also more popular among higher income brackets ($50K-$75K and more than $75K)
Instagram More popular among women than men More popular among African-Americans
and Hispanics
Conclusion: Social Media Strategy Serves as a portal to our collections, not
a substitute for them Will not solve all of our outreach
problems Need to actually promote our social
media accounts so that people will know about them
