Questions have been raised on how to determine if qualified personnel are performing Nondestructive Testing (NDT). Currently there is no national !! policy to determine if personnel performing NDT are qualified. "uidance has been developed by the #roduction and!irworthiness Certification Division and !ircraft $aintenance Division along with the Chief %cientific and Technical !dvisor for Nondestructive &valuation to assure that only qualifiedinspectors perform NDT. This guidance discusses the generic elements of the standardsconsidered acceptable to the !!.

NDT personnel should receive documented vision and color blindness testing at reasonableintervals. NDT personnel can be categori'ed at different levels of competence (e.g. Trainee

imited evel * + ,) and should perform only at the level to which they have been qualified.-nspection personnel should receive documented initial and recurrent training in the standardsmethods and levels they utili'e. NDT personnel should demonstrate documented proficiency

both in classroom nowledge and practical application of test methods. NDT personnel requiree/perience in a test method to be considered qualified to perform that test method. ! procedureneeds to be in place to allow an organi'ation to disqualify a NDT individual from performing

inspections when the inspector doesn0t meet current standards. %ufficient documentation must beavailable and retained to demonstrate that only qualified personnel are engaged in the NDT

process.

There are several current national and international standards acceptable to the !! that may beused to assure that only qualified personnel perform NDT.
