National Conference on Sustainable Housing and Construction Project Management (NSHCPM)-2016 “Best Practices for delivery of serviced urban land and affordable housing in Namibia”
Conference Program
CONFERENCE BACK GROUND AND OVERVIEW
Land Servicing and acute Residential Housing shortages have emerged as one of the major
challenges in Namibia. Recently, there have also been numerous media reported concerns about
shortages of residential houses and poorly constructed/or and uncompleted projects and allegations
of construction projects tendering irregularities. While our leaders are tirelessly working work to
address these challenges through Harambee Prosperity Plan (HPP), NDP4 and the Ministerial
Performance Goals, their efforts alone can never solve these problems. Thus, industry’s stakeholder’s
commitment and support is fully needed.
It is against the above background, the Centre for Training and Projects Development (Pty) Ltd
(CTPD) organized this very critical National Conference on Sustainable Housing and Construction
Project Management (NCSHCPM) 2016 to bring together all the Housing and Construction
stakeholders and experts to share, discuss, exchange and learn from each other the modern industry
practices and strategies that can help the industry to effectively support and contribution towards the
realization of the Harambee Prosperity Plan (HPP) and the NDP4 Goals related to Land Servicing,
Residential Housing, Construction Projects at large and Ethical Tendering Procedures in general.
The conference comprises of a series of sessions, panel and group discussions to provide a critical
action learning platform to participants through sharing practical strategies of implementing effective
land servicing within the public sectors. This will enable Namibian public organizations to cement skills
and capabilities to understand effects and consequences of poor housing and construction execution
and how to prevent such costly pitfalls; Learn from others how to keep construction projects on track,
on time, on budget, how to fix problems when good projects deviate from planned standards,
effectively monitor quality standards of cleared land and constructed houses for sustainable human
inhabitancy; Develop or improve skill sets that allow to effectively monitor quality standards of serviced
land and constructed houses for sustainable human inhabitancy.
CONFERENCE AIMS AND OBJECTIVES
Specifically, the conference aims to achieve the following objectives:
Comprehension and alignment of the Harambee Prosperity Plan goal number 8 with the existing
and planned Residential Land Servicing and Sustainable Housing and Construction projects to
ensure effective realization of the overall goal;
Gain skills for project cost estimation, project scheduling, and managing key business concepts in
the field of Residential Land Servicing, Housing and Construction;
Learn how to manage unexpected and difficult situations;
Learn how to plan and execute sustainable housing and construction work/projects;
Share knowledge and learn how to effectively monitor quality standards of serviced land and
constructed houses for sustainable human inhabitancy;
Share knowledge and learn how to keep construction projects on track, on time, on budget, how to
fix problems when good projects deviate from planned standards, effectively monitor quality
standards of cleared land and constructed houses for sustainable human inhabitancy;
