Historically, there have always been charitable efforts within our COC’s across the nation. There were charity runs benefiting cancer victims, toy runs for deprived children, and benefits to help COC members who had been in accidents or had medical issues. We were looking for a way for NCOM Christian Unity members to be of more service to the motorcycle community. There were many things individuals were doing already, but a more organized approach was necessary to convey need and match with more effective service. For instance, some of our COC members were overwhelmed with too many people making hospital visits when there were other needs not being met. Following a model out of the COC in Oklahoma, under the leadership of past President Steve – O who is a strong Christian, members of our Christian Unity Council met and hammered out a mission statement that cast our vision. "The purpose of the NCOM Christian Unity Motorcycle Resource Team is to provide a unified response to the needs of the biker community within their COC area and NCOM region with effective and credible service." Within that framework, we made areas of service – MRT Coordinators, Chaplains who were certified, First Aid, Vehicle Transport, First Responders, EMT, and Support Services. Rockers under the NCOM Christian Unity patches were provided to those who met the requirements of each category. This would be identifiers at COC events and motorcycle venues, in order to have the support when needed. The MRT vision has been shared across the country at NCOM and COC meetings. It has developed strongly in NCOM Region II which covers Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Oklahoma, and Texas. Because of the strong Motorcycle Resource Teams in Texas and Oklahoma, we have been able to respond effectively to the Twin Peaks COC meeting crisis in Waco which left 9 bikers dead, 20 injured and over 170 others incarcerated. The magnitude of need has been astronomical as our COC’s had to respond to burying our dead, and injured, and caring for those who were detained in the McClellan County jail causing overload and unsafe conditions. Their families had to retain lawyers and then try to raise the money for ridiculously high $1 million bonds. Most were reduced, but still were higher than child sex offenders who were housed with some of our members. Those bonds were a paltry $30,000. Duane Gryder of Honorbound MM and a member of the Christian Unity Council led the way, activating the MRTS in all regions of Texas to respond. Each MRT coordinator met with Christian Unity NCOM board Liaison, Louie Nobs to discuss a plan of action. A funding mechanism called Shield of Faith was offered by Frank McIlhaney, MRT coordinator for the Austin COC. This was a safe and accountable way to receive funds that were then disbursed to the victims by way of paying utility bills, and purchasing gift cards for gasoline and food for the affected families. Some were driving long distances to visit detainees in prison; the loss of income and even the loss of jobs, created a huge need for the MRT to go into crisis intervention mode. As of the first of November our MRT coordinators hand delivered financial assistance to almost 50 families. To date over $40,000 has been given to Shield of Faith to help the Waco victims through COC benefits across the country, passing the hat at COC meetings, and sale of t-shirts and Remember Waco patches. Many have needed help on a monthly basis just to survive. Some waited until they were about to go under before asking for help and new applicants for Waco – Aide are coming forward 5 months later as they find out we are there for them. There is much more to be done to help our families as this continues to drag on in the court system. The holidays are coming and we continue to meet the needs of our families both spiritually and financially, paying utility bills, helping those who are out of work, and those who have crushing debt to lawyers and monthly monitor fees. Some of our widows will be facing their loss during this season; others will not be able to go visit family because of their bond conditions. When you have a 4 year old girl look in the eyes of one of our Christian Unity chaplains saying, “Thank you mister. Now we can go buy food”, it puts what has happened to these families in perspective. We thank Richard Lester, NCOM, the COC’ s and all those who donated for their support during this crisis. As we work through this crisis, we want to show the world that we are givers not gangsters and we will take care of our families. NCOM CHRISTIAN - SHIELD OF FAITH UPDATE

When the idea of starting Motorcycle Resource Teams was first being discussed, we asked some of the Christian groups and Confederation Of Club members, how can we better serve the motorcycle community? Historically, there have always been charitable efforts within our COC’s across the nation. There were charity runs benefiting cancer victims, toy runs for deprived children, and benefits to help COC members who had been in accidents or had medical issues. We were looking for a way for NCOM Christian Unity members to be of more service to the motorcycle community. CHRISTIAN UNITY GROUPS EARN RESPECT The Christian Unity group in El Paso, Texas, was one of the first

such groups in the country. They are very active in the biker community. They are first on the scene if there is an accident or either a biker or someone in their family is in the hospital. They show up for all of the events that the biker community puts on and are often serving in one capacity or another. They do not just wear a Christian Unity patch, they live out the mission statement of the National Coalition of Motorcyclists Christian Unity MRT program.

“The purpose of the NCOM Christian Unity Motorcycle Resource Team is to provide a unified response to the needs of the biker

community within their COC area and NCOM region with effective and credible service."

Because they serve so effectively, the rest of the biker community show respect to the Christian groups when they plan an event for the community. Whether it is a Easter Sunrise Service up on the Trans Mountain Hwy Side Park or their annual Freedom Ride, all of the motorcycle community participate in a show of respect for what the Christian Unity group does year round for them.

At the recent Freedom Ride in July, two hundred and sixty patch holders showed up for the event. They gather at the Fort Bliss National Cemetery for a short service and then ride over Trans Mountain Hwy for another service in the parking lot of Harvest Christian Center. At the cemetery, HonorBound Chaplain Tyson Friar, who is also active duty military, spoke about the freedom we have in this country thanks to price paid by the men and women who have fought and died for our freedom. Their graves surrounded us and it was reminder of the price they paid. Then he spoke about the spiritual freedom we have because of the price paid by Jesus Christ. Freedom has never been free. It has always been paid for by the sacrifice of others. After a prayer we had a solemn moment as taps were played.

On the other side of the Trans Mountain Hwy, the entire group sang “God Bless America” under a huge flag held aloft by a ladder truck from the local fire department. There were several speakers, but one stood out. It was Bandido Shakey, a member of the national chapter. He talked about how not only the local Christian Unity group served, but how with just one phone call he was able to have Christian bikers from another Christian Unity group to minister to the son of a friend of his at a hospital 650 miles away. When the people we serve brag on us… we must be doing something right!

WINNER! Life is one hard race. If anyone was least likely to win it, it was me. I never

thought I’d be a ‘winner.’ My parents separated when I was eight. I went to live with my dad and rarely

saw my mom. Dad worked long hours, and I spent most of my childhood alone. Alcoholism stole my family. I longed to be loved. I wanted to be part of a real family.

At 13, I’d had enough. I hitchhiked my way across country from New Jersey to Colorado. I’d met a man back in Jersey, but he and his family moved to Colorado. He was a godly man, and he’d taken me under his wing before. He was a mentor to me. I saw something in his life, and I wanted what he had. I lived with him and his family in Colorado for a year. He taught me a lot about our heavenly Father and his unconditional love for us.

When I returned home, I attended church occasionally. But, it wasn't long before God was in the background again. I pursued what I wanted. I married young and divorced just one year later. I moved from job to job, looking for happiness. When my dad died in 1989, I never felt more alone.

My brother and I quit our jobs, hopped on our new Harley-Davidson and headed west. We rode around the country for a full month. I found myself back in Colorado with the same godly man. He encouraged my brother and I to follow our dream and open our own Harley Davidson dealership. After 13 months of hard work, Vreeland's Harley Davidson opened its doors in December of 1990.

As the business grew, I had the opportunity to work on NASCAR’s "Bush Grand National Series" race teams. I love the thrill of racing in the big leagues. I was away from home a lot. And even though I was able to go to victory lane four times with my team there was still something missing. I didn’t feel like a winner. When I started attending the Motor Racing Outreach Chapel services, I made choice. I finally moved God from the background to the front of my life. I surrendered my entire life to Jesus, was baptized, and started living every area of my life for him. That is when I truly became a "winner."

Win or lose at the track, I am victorious every day over sins, problems, and the distractions of this world. Everyone can qualify for God's Team and you'll never find a better prize. Everyone can be a winner with God.

Staging is Important Acknowledge you are a sinner Ask Jesus to forgive you Invite Jesus into your heart

You're a new creation Don't leave Earth without Jesus “It's not that I've already reached the goal or have already completed the course. But I run to win that which Jesus Christ has already won for me. Brothers and sisters, I can't consider myself a winner yet. This is what I do: I don't look back, I lengthen my stride, and I run straight toward the goal to win the prize that God's heavenly call offers in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 3:12-14 GWT)
