Saturday 23rd March 1889 was the fateful day when Hadhrat Mirza Ghulam AhmadAS the Promised Messiah accepted the hands of forty faithful servants in alle-giance to the Ten Conditions of Baiàt (initiation) and founded the community which he called lsquoThe Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaàtrsquo The Promised MessiahAS took this oath of allegiance at the house of a spiritual preceptor Hadhrat Sufi Ahmad Jan in the city of Ludhiana (Punjab India) Hadhrat Hakim Maulvi NooruddinRA was the first per-son to have the honor of offering the first Baiàt This was a revolutionary yet a very modest beginning to a new chapter in the

The Promised MessiahAS

About the Promised Messiahrsquos life Hadhrat Mirza Ghulam AhmadAS was born in

1835 in Qadian a small village situated in the

district of Punjab in India He was born to a no-

ble land-owning family of Qadian He was a de-

scendant of Haji Barlas who was the uncle of

Amir Timur It is an established fact that Timur

belonged to the famous tribe of Barlas which had

lived and ruled in Kish for 200 years This part of

the world was known in ancient times as Sogdi-

ana of which Samarkand was the capital The

Promised MessiahAS received his education from

various tutors who were not men of any great

learning and the proficiency attained by him con-

sisted merely in the reading of Persian and Ara-

bic and in the ability to express himself fluently

in the former and to a limited extent in the latter

His education went no further1 He had how-

ever also studied a few books on medicine under

the guidance of his father who was a skillful phy-

sician Along with his love of study Hadhrat

Mirza Ghulam AhmadAS was a devout worship-

per and wished to spend a great deal of his time

in prayer and supplication

Mirza Ghulam Murtaza was anxious to acquaint

his son AhmadAS with the affairs of his estate

and wanted him to devote himself to the restora-

tion of the lost worldly glory of the family

AhmadAS had no such interest and his leanings

were all in the opposite direction not to become

the richest in means but in spirit not the greatest

in worldly position but in true honor not the

most intellectual but the most virtuous not the

most powerful and influential but the most truth-

ful upright and honest Yet he thought it his

duty to carry out his fatherrsquos wishes Men in-

spired by high principles are often required to

sacrifice all that they esteem and love rather than

fail in their duty

He Stakes His All For Islam In the beginning AhmadAS was content with con-

tributing articles to newspapers but when he saw

that the enemies of Islam were getting bolder in

their attacks and that Muslims unable to with-

stand their assaults were losing ground daily his

zeal for Islam was fired up Directed by a Divine

revelation he resolved to write a book expound-

ing such data in proof of the truth of Islam as

would completely disarm his opponents and stop

them from venturing in the field against Islam

ever after and in case they did so to furnish

every Muslim with arguments sufficient to over-

whelm such opponents With this resolve he

started writing that mighty book now well-known

by the name of Brahin-e-Ahmadiyya Thus was

fulfilled a vision of AhmadAS which he had seen

in 1864 or 1865 and in which he had met the

Holy ProphetSAW AhmadAS had at that time a

book in his hand which appeared to be his own

work The Holy ProphetSAW took it from him

and as soon as his hand touched the book it

turned into a beautiful fruit As the Holy Prophet-SAW cut this fruit for distribution honey flowed

out of it in great abundance He also saw that a

dead person was restored to life by the Holy

ProphetSAW

Masjid Mubarak The foundation of Masjid Mubarak was laid ad-

joining AhmadrsquosAS house about the middle of

1883 It was a very small building at that time

One or two rooms were constructed over a roofed

lane By August 30th 1883 (26th Shawwal 1300

AH) the steps leading from the lane to the

mosque were completed The whitewashing of

the interior was not done till October 9th 1883

(7th Dhilhaj 1300) The Masjid Mubarak was built under a Divine

command AhmadAS received several revelations

concerning it There are blessings for the people

in this mosque and he who enters it enters into

peace The following is the translation of an Ara-

bic revelation containing the date of its construc-

tion (1300) Blessor and blessed is this mosque

Hadhrat Khalifatul Masih VABArsquos Friday Sermon Summary

HudhurABA said Alhamdolillah today we are enabled to

inaugurate a mosque in the area of Feltham Feltham is

near Hounslow and HudhurABA gleaned from what the

regional Ameer sahib said that the mosque will serve as

the central mosque of the entire area Here people will

come for Friday Prayer and Salat which is the purpose of

a mosque May God enable the Jamaàt to build a mosque

in every area here so that the wish and instruction of the

Promised MessiahAS is fulfilled in making our mosques a

source of introduction of Islam and the Jamaàt and new

avenues of Tabligh are opened and the world comes to

know the real teaching of Islam HudhurABA said today it is

only the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community which can pre-

sent true Islam to the world Building of mosques is also

important for us because Hadhrat lsquoAishahRA related that

the Holy ProphetSAW directed that mosques should be

built in tribes or neighborhoods or places of residence

HudhurABA said at that time neighborhoods used to be

populated in tribal fashion just as even in the current

times when they are away from their homeland people of

some nations like to live in one locality like Chinese peo-

ple make China towns wherever they go This Hadith

indicates that a mosque should be built in every locality

and it should be kept clean and pure Mosques hold great

significance especially for Ahmadis because they represent

a clean and pure place to respond to the profusion of

misunderstanding against Islam by presenting the beautiful

teaching of Islam HudhurABA said the Jamaàt has centers

in the nearby areas of Southall and Hounslow where peo-

ple gather for Salat and where other events are held and

guests are invited However by building a mosque new

avenues are opened The Jamaàt in Hayes has also built a

mosque which will be inaugurated next week

HudhurABA said the mosque from where the sermon was

being delivered is not a purpose built mosque It has been

converted from an office block whereas in Hayes a com-

munity center building has been converted to a mosque

May God make these mosques a source of spreading the

teaching of Islam as well as a source of enhancing our

faith HudhurABA said enhancement of faith is associated

with mosques HudhurABA said the first verse he recited at

the start of the sermon illustrates the significance of

mosques God states that a mosque is a place which is

purely for the sake of God and whoever comes to a

Today HudhurABA inaugurated a new mosque lsquoBaitul Wahidrsquo in Feltham [near London] and delivered his

Friday sermon from there HudhurABA recited the following verses at the start of his sermon And all

places of worship belong to Allah so call not on any one beside Allahlsquo (7219)

Say My Lord has enjoined justice And fix your attention aright at every time and place of

worship and call upon Him making yourselves sincere towards Him in religion As He

brought you into being so shall you returnlsquo (730)

mosque should come as a servant of God There should be

no mention of kufr (disbelief) shirk (associating partners

with God) in a mosque in fact no worldly matters should

be discussed in a mosque This is the reason why the Holy

ProphetSAW forbade people from discussing trade and busi-

ness in mosques in fact he even forbade announcing any

lost property in a mosque However once prayer is over

one may discuss plans to spread Godrsquos message in the

world and to bring the world close to God prepare one-

self to put this in practice give suggestions for the better-

ment of mankind and offer onersquos services for it HudhurABA

said the first verse also explains that any person belonging

to any religion or no religion can come to a mosque As

such HudhurABA said we hold programs which are at-

tended by all kinds of people However the command-

ment that mosques are for worship of God should be al-

ways kept in view If anyone wishes to worship solely God

they may do so in our mosques however idol worship

will have to be done outside Shirk has no place in a

mosque In this verse God states that if you wish to come

to My house for worship then worship Me and Me alone

The verse also elucidates that God is One and after the

advent of the Holy ProphetSAW it became all the more lucid

that God had willed that the message of His unity was to

spread in the world through the Holy ProphetSAW and

mosques were the source of this

Life of Muhammad SAW Life of MuhammadSAW is part of Introduction to the study of the Holy Qurrsquoan by

Hadrat Mirza Bashiruddin Mahmud AhmadRA The introduction was translated into Eng-

lish by Qadi Muhammad Aslam and was first published in 1949 from London Since then

it has appeared in several editions Life of MuhammadSAW has also appeared in several

editions Present edition has an index which the original English edition did not have Life

of MuhammadSAW is an excellent and affectionate life sketch of the Holy Prophet Mu-

hammadSAW a better biography has yet to be written

This wonderful life sketch is followed by the Holy Prophetlsquos personality and char-

acter in various phases of his life Full of beautiful teachings of Islam practically shown by

the Holy Founder of Islam ndash a guideline for everyonelsquos life

This year with the grace of Allah we held our Southeast regional Waqfe Nau Ijtema on January 22nd 2012

in Miami at Hallandale Ahmadiyya mosque

We had a very good attendance of 15 ndash 16 Waqifeen and Waqifaate Nau Ijtema was also attended by

local President of Miami Jamaàt and local Secretary Waqfe Nau Assistant National Secretary Waqfe

Nau Mahmood Ahmad sahib represented National Secretary Waqfe Nau Hafiz Samiullah Chaudhary

sahib who was out of the country Orlando Jamaàt was represented by Waqifeeene Nau and Regional

Secretary Waqfe Nau Haris Mirza sahib Besides Waqifeene Nau attendees we saw many parents and

other local members who came to encourage attendees Three judges were prearranged for menrsquos as well

as ladiesrsquo sides for various competitions Girls younger than 7years were asked to participate on the boys

side Simultaneous competitions were held on both the menrsquos as well as the ladiesrsquo sides

The Ijtema started at 11 AM after breakfast and tea Opening remarks were delivered by local President

Miami Jamaàt Assistant National Secretary Waqfe Nau Mahmood Ahmad sahib also spoke and dis-

cussed the importance and goals of the ijtema Then recitation of Holy Quran was done by Naeem

Ahmad Khalid This was followed by a poem by Mohammad Mudassar Later on we had a good partici-

pation in various competetions in all the age groups

Mahmood Ahmad Virk aged 3 was the youngest Waqfe Nau child to say a few words to the audience

We had a good presentation by all age groups Particular stress was laid in the competition on recitation

of prayers ahadith and Quranic verses It was surprising to see how young Waqifeene Nau in the less

than 10 years age group were able to memorize many attributes of Allah besides other prayers and

Quranic verses Before lunch the competition of ages 15-18 was held for Holy Quran memorization and

speeches on the topics of Seeerat Rasool AllahSAW and Seerat Maseeh MaudAS

The competitions were followed by lunch which was organized by the local jamaat for all the attendees

and guests After lunch salaat Zuhar and Asr were done in congregation This was followed by talk show

for Waqifeene Nau and power point presentation for the Waqifaate Nau

The Ijtema concluded with recognition and awards ceremony The concluding address was given by

Mahmood Ahmad sahib The Ijtema came to a successful end with silent prayers around 315 PM

Central Jersey Jamaàt My favorite hadith is the following saying by the Holy Prophet MuhammadSAW about the importance of

Friday ―O Muslims God has made this day Eid for you On this day take a bath and do brush

your teeth (Hadeeqatus Saliheen ndash pages 303-304) I have acted upon this hadith by taking a bath before Friday prayer and brushing as well Since every

Friday is like Eid I wear new or clean clothes Once in the mosque I sit quietly while listening to the

Friday sermon like I would during salaat itself

I take time off from school to attend the Friday prayer every week My parents wrote a letter to my

Principal to obtain permission for me to leave school early on Fridays Every Friday my parents pick

me up from the school at 1 PM to bring me to the mosque for the Friday prayer
