When the UK FLOODS Early summer 2007 was the wettest ever recorded in the UK. Major flooding affected large

parts of the country, with the north and west worst hit. Water levels in many places were at

their highest for over 200 years. Some of the most serious flooding was around Gloucester in the west of

England.

Deadly AVALANCHE In August 2008 an avalanche killed eight climbers near Mont Blanc in the French Alps. It

was one of several avalanches to hit the Alps in 2008 and took the death toll for the summer to one hundred,
