President’s Post

Dear Members, This is a busy me of year for the Natomas Park Community, with summer star ng, the Clubhouse in full swing providing Friday happy hour, swim lessons, and summer events. The Delegate and Board member ballots were tabulated the first week of June. Two Board posi ons were open, and I would like to welcome Charles Gray and Greg Shirey to the Board and invite the community to join us at the next open session Board mee ng on Wednesday, July 22 at 6:30 p.m. Please see page 6 of this newsle er for complete elec on results. The Board and our Associa on management company, FirstService Residen al, con nue to review the CC&R enforcement procedures, including parking, yard maintenance, and nuisance behavior. New procedures will be put into place that will streamline and improve CC&R oversight and enforcement in the community, with the new parking rules being the first to go out to the community in early June for member comment. NPMA has many volunteer commi ees that help the Associa on and community run smoothly and that also provide benefit to our members. These commi ees include the Architectural Control Commi ee (ACC), Club, Communica ons, Finance, Parks and Schools, Planning, Safety, and the Club Construc on Improvement Advisory Commi ee (CCIAC). I would like to thank all who volunteered this past year on all of these commi ees and encourage community members to join us in the coming year. All but the ACC mee ngs are open mee ngs, so please a end the mee ngs to see what they’re all about. You can find the schedules in the Calendar of Events on page 10. Now that the building moratorium has been li ed, NPMA can move forward with the Phase II expansion of the Club. CCIAC has been very busy, working with management and the Board to hire a construc on firm, and Tricorp Group was chosen in early June. The architectural firm Mogavero Notes ne Associates is drawing up preliminary plans for the expansion, which should be ready to present at the July open session Board mee ng. With the more detailed drawings and Tricorp on board, we will be able to move forward with an es ma on of the cost of the expansion, and if everything stays on track, go out for a vote of the members in the fall off 2015. I hope you are all having a great beginning to summer and enjoying the ameni es your Clubhouse and associa on provide – the food, the pools, the workout rooms, and the social events!

Natomas Park Mommies (NPM) is a network of moms and moms‐to‐be designed to provide a suppor ve community within Natomas Park to share the joys and trials of parenthood.

Joining the Natomas Park Mommies is a great way to make new friends for you and your families! With your annual $20 membership, you will be part of an amazing group of Natomas Park Moms and you will have access to a year of social events.

Family Par es. Three/four family par es a year. Par es are usually held in the lounge/party room of the Natomas Park Clubhouse. They usually include food and fun games entertainment for kids.

Monthly Social Ac vi es. We also have many smaller get‐togethers including age specific playgroups, picnics, field trips, cra par es, and a monthly Mommies Night Out.

Super Mommies. If you are expec ng or in need of a helping hand for any reason, our Super Mommies program is here for you! Our Super Mommies program will deliver meals, childcare, and any other help you need un l you are back on your feet.

Social Media. Members can use our Natomas Park Mommies Facebook Group to RSVP for events, organize par es or sub‐groups, communicate with other members, and to do some mommy bragging (or ven ng).

Monthly Communica ons. We send our members (via e‐mail) NPM News, our newsle er, a calendar of events and our membership roster.

Message from the Community Manager by Brandon Whitlow

The purpose of this wri en no ce is to inform you that the Associa on's Board of Directors is considering adop ng revised parking rules. This no ce is being given to all members in accordance with California Civil Code Sec ons 4340 et seq. [prior to January 1, 2014 see Civil Code Sec on 1357.100 et seq.],

Text of the Proposed Rule Change: The proposed revised Parking Rules are copied below, and will be incorporated into the exis ng rules:

1. Registra on of Vehicle Informa on: 1.1. In order to dis nguish between Resident and non‐resident vehicles, all Residents shall register their vehicle informa on with the Associa on, including the vehicle manufacturer, model, color, and license number. Members must also include their contact informa on (i.e. phone number, email address, etc.) on the vehicle registra on form. 1.2. The vehicle informa on form may be mailed to all Residents for an update on an annual basis, or as frequently requested by the Associa on. The resident vehicle informa on form will be available at the Club and management office for Residents to pick up and available on the community website. 1.3. Management must receive any changes or updates to the vehicle informa on form within 10 business days of any newly acquired or sold vehicles. 1.4. Along with the other applicable Associa on informa on, the vehicle informa on form will be sent to all new Residents, which must be returned to the office of Management within 10 business days of the date the form is sent to the Resident. If the Owner is ren ng the home, the Owner must provide the vehicle informa on form to the tenant (resident) for comple on and mailing. Management will maintain a vehicle list for all Residents of Natomas Park.

Purpose and Effect of the Proposed Rule Change: The purpose of the proposed Parking Rules is to increase the efficiency and accuracy of the Associa on's parking enforcement, and to ensure that vehicles properly parked on the street are not subject to fines and that vehicles improperly parked on the street can be iden fied and cited. The effects of the proposed Parking Rules is increased compliance with the Associa on's parking restric ons, including ensuring that residents are not parking on the street and that sufficient space is preserved for non‐resident (guest) vehicles. All residents will be required to register their vehicles with management, and update that informa on when vehicle ownership changes. This registra on database will be used to determine if a vehicle parked on the street is a resident‐vehicle or a non‐resident (guest) vehicle. The proposed Parking Rules will also enact an enforcement schedule that will allow for warnings for first viola ons, but proceed to fines for repeat offenders. Please review the text of the rules above for further details.

The Board of Directors intends to make its decision at this mee ng following considera on of any comments made by the members. Nathan’s Famous hot dog ea ng contest began on Coney Island in 1916 American Joey Chestnut once ate 69 hot dogs (with buns) in 10 minutes.

Now we won’t have an official hot dog ea ng contest but the Café will be serving

up some delicious Nathan’s hot dogs. Please be sure to stop by and take part in an American tradi on.

Club Business

Please remember to abide by the club rules and regula ons. These help protect the integrity of your club membership and help provide an enjoyable experience when followed. By obeying club rules and regula ons, you contribute to every members shared community experience. Here are a few points to remember… please park within the lanes and not on or over them; please finish up Jacuzzi and pool ac vi es before closing me; please order café food and beverages on last call before the café’s close; please take bathroom breaks when using the pools; and finally please say hi to your neighbors and make new friends at the Club. Let’s work together at making our club and community the best place to live that it can be!

Summer Grilling Tips The following are some of the most important safety ps to help you maintain a risk‐free barbeque, whether you prefer gas or charcoal grilling:

1. Always place your grill on a level surface at least 10 feet away from all other objects or structures such as your house, garage, landscaping, etc. 2. Never use a grill in an enclosed space not only can it induce fires, but can be deadly in regards to carbon monoxide poisoning. 3. Never grill on a deck or covered pa o. 4. A er grilling with charcoal, soak the coals in water and store in a metal container for proper disposal. 5. A er cooking on a gas grill, always turn off both the grill and the propane tank. 6. When grilling is complete, be sure to keep children and pets away from the grill un l it is completely cooled.

on Monday, June 8, 2015. Directors Gray and Shirey will serve a three year term on the Board.

Charles Gray and his family have been members of Natomas Park since 2001. He has served our community as both a Delegate for District A and a former Director and Officer of the Board. Charles has also served as a member of the Architectural Control Commi ee, Club Commi ee and Safety Commi ee. He regularly a ends our Board of Director mee ngs, Finance and Social commi ee mee ngs. Charles feels it is important to stay informed and be an ac ve par cipant in our community.

Greg Shirey

Greg Shirey has lived and worked in the greater Sacramento area for the past 7 years. He also ran his own successful consul ng side business by wri ng so ware to analyze property taxes as they relate to the decline in home prices across the state of California and Florida. When not working, Greg frequently a ends fitness classes at the Club and regularly competes in extreme obstacle races.



Discover how to transform your body and get into the best shape of your life! The Living Fit Challenge offers a wide variety of high intensity exercises to help you lose fat, tone and build muscle, increase your cardiovascular endurance, and strengthen your core. The workouts are designed to accelerate results by constantly introducing new moves and rou nes, so that you never hit a plateau. It includes a pre and post fit test, weight, measurement, and body fat tes ng, a food journal, fitness ps, nutri onal guidance, and healthy recipes to help keep you on track. This twelve week challenge will meet every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday morning from 5:30 to 6:30 a.m. at The Club at Natomas Park, and is open to anyone in good health regardless of your age or fitness level. The new program runs from August 28th to November 20th, and costs only $300. The winner of the challenge receives a free t‐shirt and a full refund which may be used to sign up for the next class. Living Fit Challenge

If a neighbor has made changes to his or her home, front yard, or added structures to their backyard that seem wrong, or if a neighbor is not properly maintaining his or her home or yard, you should no fy the HOA Management of these issues. Management will then follow up with the owner on the correc ons that need to be made and the process for submi ng an applica on to the ACC for approval. HOA Management will NOT let the owner know who reported the problem so as a neighbor you will be safe.

You have two basic methods to report problems to HOA Management. The first method, which is the preferred method, is to take a picture of the issue and then email the picture to [email protected] with the address and descrip on of the problem. Or send via mail P.O Box 348677, Sacramento, CA 95834. HOA Management will then drive out to the home and view the problem. As our community gets older, it is important to correct home and yard issues.

Bike It! The term “valet” dates back a few hundred years, and,

according to Wikipedia, is loosely translated to “personal man

servant.” What trusty bicycle doesn’t need one or two of those? Hooray for

bike valet, where diligent and du ful gents and ladies watch over your

trusty steed while you are busy doing other things. The NNTMA is proud to

An Update from Paladin by Corporal W. Kenealey

Dear Residents ‐ Within the last few months, we’ve experienced a rash of residen al burglaries. The burglars have been knocking on doors and if no one answers, they a empt to break in to the home. Some of the burglaries appear to have been perpetrated by truant students from nearby schools. During

school hours, school age children are not supposed to be out un‐a ended. If you see juveniles out without adult supervision, in the community, during school hours, please contact Paladin or the Sacra‐mento Police Department at (916) 264‐5471

Loose Snake on Club Center May 8 Paladin Officers responded to a report of a large snake on Club Center. The Officers located an adult California King Snake and captured it. A er confirming that the snake was in good health, it was taken to a nearby field and released back into its habitat.

Burglary on North Bend Drive May 10 Paladin responded to a report of someone ringing a doorbell and run‐ning away. Responding officers found Sacramento Police a few doors down, at another residence, for a residen al burglary. The suspects had broken in while the residents were sleeping, but fled the house when they realized that someone was home.

Missing Juvenile Returned Home May 19 Paladin responded to a report of a missing child on Aimwell Ave. A er searching the community for several hours, Paladin located the boy walking on Natomas Blvd. The child was uninjured and promptly returned to the care of his family.

Vehicle Pursuit on Northborough Drive May 25 A Paladin Officer was nearly struck by a vehicle that was fleeing Sacra‐mento Police Officers. The vehicle crashed shortly therea er, and the occupants fled on foot. Sac PD requited assistance from Paladin and with their assistance, all of the occupants were taken into custody.

A empted Sexual Assault Near Club Center Drive May 26 While training her dog near Club Center Drive and Natomas Blvd, a female juvenile was a acked by a group of males. The vic m's dog bit one of the males, while she struck another, using her house keys as a weapon, allowing her opportunity to flee. The vic m was able to reach a phone and call for help. Paladin and Sac PD responded, but the sus‐pects had already fled the area. Sac PD is inves ga ng the incident. This incident well illustrates the effec veness of even basic self‐defense techniques. The Club at Natomas Park offers self‐defense classes. Any‐one over the age of 18 can purchase pepper spray in quan es up to 2.5 oz. Taser makes a civilian versions of their electronic self‐defense systems that can be purchased and carried by anyone with a clean crim‐inal history; Paladin offers training classes for all Taser equipment, con‐tact Paladin dispatch for further details.

Safety Commi ee Second Monday ‐ 6:30 pm

The commi ee discusses crime in Natomas, receives reports from Paladin security, and formulate policy recom‐menda ons to the Board.

Third Tuesday ‐ 6:00 pm The ACC reviews home improvement applica ons submi ed by Members to ensures compliance with the CC&Rs, Architectural Standards and other gov‐erning documents.

Monthly Board Mee ng Fourth Wednesday ‐ 6:30 pm

Board of Director’s mee ngs are open to the membership. The Board meets in closed execu ve session the first Thurs‐day of each month. In execu ve session the Board may discuss poten al li ga‐on, contractual and personnel issues,

and/or member discipline.


Club Commi ee Second Tuesday ‐ 6:30 pm

The commi ee assists and advises club management and the HOA Board concerning: club opera ons, programs, policies, rules, and facility needs. Please bring your ideas and sugges on to the next mee ng.

Communica ons Commi ee Second Thursday ‐ 6:30 pm

The commi ee meets to discuss and address methods to best communicate and connect NPMA homeowners. They will make recommenda ons on the newsle er, website, email communica on, and social media.

Finance Commi ee Third Wednesday 6:30 pm

The commi ee reviews and provide financial exper se and budget recommenda ons for the Board of Directors and other commi ee.

Parks and Schools Commi ee (Meets: May, August

and November) Third Monday ‐ 6:00 pm

The commi ee addresses the area of building and expanding our park system and developing and securing our school system. All residents are welcome to a end any mee ng to share their comments and/or concerns.

Planning Commi ee Second Wednesday ‐ 6:30 pm

The commi ee reviews and discusses upcoming property development plans and communicates with the city concerning projects in North Natomas.

Club Construc on Improvements Advisory Commi ee (CCIAC) Third Thursday ‐ 6:30 pm

This is an ad‐hoc commi ee established to assist the Board with Club improvements for both the construc on defect repairs and poten al Club expansion.

This 45 minute fat‐burning cardio class that has extended warm‐up and cool down period with up to 30 minutes of cardio. The choreography is easy to follow and varia ons are shown to adjust intensity to suit your needs. Taught by Joy Raasch on Saturday at 10:15 am.
