21st Sunday in Ordinary Time

"This saying is hard; who can accept it?" The

words of Jesus' disciples in today's Gospel

must sound familiar. At some point in our

lives, you and I have said it about some

article of our faith. Christianity makes firm

demands on our ethical behavior and gives no

easy answers for suffering. Many disciples

were confused and dismayed by Jesus' words

in the Bread of Life Discourse. Not all of them,

however, had the same reaction.

When the disciples question Jesus' teaching,

he confirms its truth. "The words I have

spoken to you are spirit and life." For some,

Jesus' reassurance was not enough. These

disciples do not question Jesus further or

wrestle with their lack of understanding. The

mighty deeds Jesus has done fade to the

background. "Many of his disciples returned

to their former way of life and no longer

accompanied him." For them, their doubt

proves too much.

Jesus turns to the Twelve, knowing that

confusion lives in their hearts as well. Peter

answers. "Master, to whom shall we go? You

have the words of eternal life. We have come

to believe and are convinced that you are the

Holy One of God." Notice this is not a

confession of perfect understanding. It is a

confession of faith in Jesus. The precise

words may still confuse them, but they believe

the One who said them.

In our own lives, we face doubt, confusion,

and disillusionment in our Christian faith.

The same choice available to the disciples is

available to us. Do you have faith in Jesus,

even when you lack perfect understanding?

Will you stay or will you go? What do you do

with your doubt?

Seeking Religious Education Teachers & Aids

We invite YOU to become a Religious Education

Teacher or Aid!

A Catechist (teacher) prepares lesson plans using a teacher’s

guide, leads discussions on various faith topics, and uses

many forms of teaching, such as crafts and videos, to engage

the students. An Aid can be a hallway monitor or classroom

helper. Classroom aids can also be students from 12 to 17

years of age needing service hours.

Classes are Wednesday afternoons from 3:30pm to 4:45pm

and Monday evenings from 6:30pm to 8:00pm.

We also have classes offered based on the teacher’s schedule.

It’s time to register for classes for the 2018-2019

Religious Education school year!

The closing date for registration is August 15th.

Please be sure to register early - our classes fill quickly.

Classes will begin mid-September and you will receive a

copy of the calendar and your class assignment in the

beginning of September.

Classes 1 to 4 meet Wednesdays 3:30pm to 4:45pm and

classes 5 to 7 meet Mondays 6:30pm to 8:00pm. Children

should be attending Religious Education yearly in order to

prepare for and receive the sacraments. Please remember

that attendance at Mass each and every Sunday as well as

each Holy Day of Obligation is an essential part of their

faith formation.

Actitudes Adecuadas Que Debemos Observar Cuando Asistimos a Misa

1. -Llega siempre puntual. Recordar que el primer precepto de la Iglesia, es oír Misa

completa. Es importante llegar a tiempo para prepararnos espiritualmente haciendo

nuestra oración personal.

2.- Entrando al templo tu primera acción debe ser saludar al Señor. Nunca entres

despistado, busca el sagrario y arrodíllate como señal de adoración y respeto al estar frente

al Señor.

3.- Si tienes que moverte dentro de la Iglesia hazlo con respeto. Cuando tengas que

pasar de lado a lado haz una reverencia profunda al pasar frente al altar.

4.- Observa el silencio. Permanece en silencio u orando como preparación personal y para

respetar el momento de los demás con Dios. La Misa es algo sagrado; apaga o silencia el

teléfono móvil y evita conversaciones innecesarias.

5.- Vístete con decencia en la casa de Dios. En el lugar donde se renueva el sacrificio de

Cristo en la cruz, vístete con lo mejor que tengas. No lleves vestimentas atrevidas aunque

haga calor, ni ropa deportiva, ni pijamas, ni shorts o zapatillas de casa.

6.- Ayuno Eucarístico de 1 hora. Ayuno de comida y bebida antes de la Sagrada

Comunión, a excepción del agua y las medicinas.

7.- Controla a tus hijos. Evita que jueguen molestando a los demás y edúcalos en el

respeto que merecen el lugar y el momento, hay que enseñarles desde su corta edad a amar

a Dios.

8.- Deja los cariños extravagantes para otro lugar y momento. Dice Jesús: “Mi casa

será llamada casa de oración”. No te sientes con las piernas cruzadas como en reuniones

sociales.

9.- Participa activamente de la Misa y deja tus lecturas y devociones para otro

momento. Durante la Misa evita los desplazamientos innecesarios como peregrinar frente a

imágenes dispuestas para la devoción.

10.- No favorezcas la distracción. En Misa abandona todo otro asunto o pensamiento. No

desvalorices ese momento con un corazón dividido pensando en tus asuntos fuera de Misa��
