1 National VAT Workshops 2015
The importance of VAT trainingTraining forms an integral part of any organisation’s continuing development, both on an organisational and personal level. There is an increased focus on actively managing risk and implementing robust systems and internal controls. This in turn places a greater emphasis on individuals at all levels of an organisation to develop and broaden their skills to meet these requirements.
The VAT workshop programme has been developed as a direct response to the need for practical VAT training for non-VAT specialists who have responsibility or a role to play in their organisation’s VAT accounting obligations.
The workshops provide an informal and interactive forum in which to discuss key VAT issues facing your organisation.
This workshop offers a general overview of the UK VAT system and discussion of the issues around whether or not VAT is recoverable and when VAT should be charged. It highlights many of the potential VAT pitfalls and offers practical advice on how to deal with your VAT accounting obligations.
The workshop is ideal for accounts payable and receivable staff who may have day to day responsibility for VAT. The workshop also serves as a useful skills refresher for Company Accountants and Financial Controllers.
The workshop is intended to be informal and fully interactive. We like to encourage participants to bring specific problems and areas of concern to the workshop, as this helps with the general level of discussion and provides added value in terms of the issues that can be addressed.

The workshop also covers the place of supply rules for both goods and services and discusses practical solutions to overseas registration issues and incurring local VAT in other member states.
The workshop covers the reporting obligations placed upon businesses trading with other EU member states and the VAT implications of importing and exporting goods including the scope to take advantage of the various deferment schemes.

VAT on property is recognised as one of the most complicated areas of VAT and given the size of the transaction values involved, any failure to recognise the relevant issues can lead to significant liabilities.
The workshop highlights areas of exposure and deals with practical measures to ensure that the VAT implications of any proposed property transaction are covered. It has a commercial focus and should benefit any organisation with an extensive property portfolio or currently disposing or acquiring new properties.
This advanced workshop is aimed at Company Accountants, Financial Controllers, Finance Directors, or anyone who wants to increase their understanding of this complicated area of VAT.
