National School Sport Week at Home 2020

National School Sport Week at Home 2020 Right now as the sun is shining I’m sure many of our amazing students are missing sport and the opportunity to enjoy the summer weather in the great outdoors. This time of year also brings about our annual St Christopher’s sport afternoons where pupils have the chance to showcase their hard work in PE and compete for their house teams. This year the youth sport trust have launched the ‘National Sport Week at Home 2020’ initiative to help create a week of spor ting activities to get pupils back into sport. This scheme is about uniting the country and getting everyone involved. The week starts from Saturday the 20 th and goes through to Friday June the 26 th . The scheme has three simple steps; Choose, Challenge and Capture. Below I’ve explained how The St Christopher School are suggesting you and your family take on these three steps. 1. Choose I have included 7 very accessible activities for you to take on. They can be adapted to suit you and your family and can be done on whatever day you choose (there is one challenge per day). All the family can take part and you can record and send us back all your families’ results as at The St Christopher School we are one big family. 2. Challenge Our challenge is to see as a school we can travel from sunny Leigh-On-Sea to the National Stadium in Japan. This summer it was scheduled to host the opening ceremony of the 2020 Olympic Games so we are aiming to travel the 5919 miles to get there ourselves. 3. Capture - Capture your achievements and funny moments through photos and videos which we hope to share at a later date in school. There is also a table attached for you to record your results. *This isn’t a compulsory event, if your child doesn’t want to participate that’s absolutely fine. If you do wish to take part and record your results then we will be sending out a email in the following weeks asking for you to send them in so we can total up how far we have travelled* HAVE FUN

National School Sport Week at Home 2020

Right now as the sun is shining I’m sure many of our amazing students are missing sport and the opportunity to enjoy the summer weather in the great

outdoors. This time of year also brings about our annual St Christopher’s sport afternoons where pupils have the chance to showcase their hard work in PE

and compete for their house teams.

This year the youth sport trust have launched the ‘National Sport Week at Home 2020’ initiative to help create a week of sporting activities to get pupils

back into sport. This scheme is about uniting the country and getting everyone involved. The week starts from Saturday the 20th and goes through to Friday

June the 26th.

The scheme has three simple steps; Choose, Challenge and Capture. Below I’ve explained how The St Christopher School are suggesting you and your family

take on these three steps.

1. Choose – I have included 7 very accessible activities for you to take on. They can be adapted to suit you and your family and can be done on

whatever day you choose (there is one challenge per day). All the family can take part and you can record and send us back all your families’ results

as at The St Christopher School we are one big family.

2. Challenge – Our challenge is to see as a school we can travel from sunny Leigh-On-Sea to the National Stadium in Japan. This summer it was

scheduled to host the opening ceremony of the 2020 Olympic Games so we are aiming to travel the 5919 miles to get there ourselves.

3. Capture - Capture your achievements and funny moments through photos and videos which we hope to share at a later date in school. There is also

a table attached for you to record your results.

*This isn’t a compulsory event, if your child doesn’t want to participate that’s absolutely fine. If you do wish to take part and record your results then we will be

sending out a email in the following weeks asking for you to send them in so we can total up how far we have travelled*

Events Explained: (REMEMBER YOU CAN HAVE AS MANY ATTEMPTS AS YOU LIKE)

Egg & Spoon – I suggest hard boiling an egg. How far can you and the egg travel in 60 seconds. Every metre you travel is 1 mile towards Japan.

100m Dash - Usain Bolt holds the world record for 100m at 9.58. How far can you run in the same time? Every metre you travel is 1 mile towards Japan.

3 Legged Race – This needs two people. Tie / attach two legs together and then see how far you can travel without falling in 60 seconds. Every metre you travel is 1 mile

towards Japan.

Throw & Clap – You need something that preferably isn’t breakable I.e. a ball or bean bag. Your challenge is to throw the item up and see how many claps you can

complete before catching the object. The more you manage the further you go. Every clap in between catches = 10 miles I.e. 5 claps and a successful catch = 50 miles

travelled.

Speed Bounce – You just need something you can jump over that isn’t too high. How many jumps can you complete in 60 seconds. Every time you jump over and then

return to your starting side = 1 mile towards Japan.

Walk – It’s as simple as it sounds. Go for a walk. How many miles can you cover in 60 minutes. Every mile you travel is 10 miles towards Japan. I.e. you walk 1.5 miles

then that’s 15 miles towards Tokyo

Wastepaper Basketball – Get a piece of waste paper. Screw it up and make your best basketball and then using a bin see how accurate your shot is. You get three attempts

from 1 metre working back as far as possible. The minute you aren’t able to score using that three attempts then its game over. Measure your finishing distance. Your

finishing distance will be x5 miles I.e. you scored from 3 meters away so that would be 15 miles towards Japan.
