Kartarpur Sahib Corridor Agreement

India has signed the Agreement with Pakistan on October 24, 2019 on the modalities for operationalization of the Kartarpur Sahib Corridor at Zero Point, International Boundary, Dera Baba Nanak. It is very well known that the Union Cabinet passed a resolution on 22 November 2018 to celebrate the historic occasion of 550th Birth Anniversary of Sri Guru Nanak Dev ji in a grand and befitting manner, throughout the country and across the globe. The highlights of the Agreement are: Indian pilgrims of all faiths and persons of Indian origin can use the corridor;

The travel will be Visa Free: o Pilgrims need to carry only a valid passport; o Persons of Indian Origin need to carry OCI card along with the passport of their country; The Corridor

is open from dawn to dusk. Pilgrims travelling in the morning will have to return on the same day; The Corridor will be operational throughout the year, except on notified days, to be informed in advance; Pilgrims will have a choice to visit as individuals or in groups, and also to travel on foot; India will send the list of pilgrims to Pakistan 10 days ahead of travel date. Confirmation will be sent to pilgrims 4 days before the travel date;

o The Pakistan side has assured India to make sufficient provision for `Langar' and distribution of 'Prasad'

Railway ministry signs MoU with CH

The Railway Ministry signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) for evaluating the green initiatives and rate the performance of its industrial units pursuing environmentally sustainable practices. The MoU was signed for Green Business Centre (GBC) of CII to extend technical co-operation for various green initiatives. It has developed a Green Co Rating system to evaluate the various steps and rate them.

GBC will also assess and certify 3 industrial units of the Railways and organise studies on energy efficiency.

Reliance Power inks pact with JERA for power project in Bangladesh

Reliance Power has signed a partnership agreement with Japanese energy major Japan's Energy for a New Era (JERA). Reliance Power will hold 51 per cent stake, while JERA will hold 49 per cent stake in the joint venture company.

They will jointly set up 750-megawatt gas-based combined cycle power project at Meghnaghat, Bangladesh.

IIT-Kharagpur and Amazon Web Services join hands to develop AI portal

IIT Kharagpur has collaborated with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to develop a National Artificial Intelligence resource platform (NAIRP) to promote learning and development in artificial intelligence (Al).

The National Artificial Intelligence Resource Portal (NAIRP) will provide access to compute facilities to users for Al learning and experimentation. Novice machine learning practitioners will be able to quickly search and get access to myriads of learning resources and prototype the learned concepts into hands-on running modules without being held back by the lack of resources.

Sri Lanka signs agreement with India to upgrade railway lines

Sri Lanka has signed an agreement with India to upgrade tracks in a key railway segment connecting the north and south at a cost of S 91.26 million. This is the first time in 100 years that the 130 km-long-tracks, running from Maho town in the North Western Province to Omanthal in the Northern Province, are being upgraded.

The contract agreement for concessional financing was signed in Colombo between the Government of Sri Lanka and IRCON International Ltd (India).

NHAI and NIIF Signs MoU for funding highway projects

National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and National Investment and Infrastructure Fund (NIIF) signed an MoU for funding highway projects.

The MoU is related to co-operation in formation of SPVs to execute the fund arrangement for large size road projects particularly green field projects to be executed by NHAI in future.

India-Maldives MoU for passenger, cargo services

The Union Cabinet has approved the pact signed between India and Maldives to start passenger and cargo services is a sea route.

United States to set Up six nuclear power plants in India

The 9th round of the India-US Strategic Security Dialogue was held in Washington DC. Both sides reaffirmed to deny Weapons of Mass Destruction to non-state actors and work towards setting up US nuclear plant in India agreement. The two sides committed to strengthen bilateral security and civil nuclear cooperation, including the establishment of 6 U.S. nuclear reactors in India.

India and Norway Launched Initiative to Combat Marine Pollution

The Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change signed a Letter of Intent establishing the India-Norway Marine Pollution Initiative together with the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Earlier, the Indian and Norwegian governments agreed to work more closely on oceans by signing a MoU and establishing the India-Norway Ocean Dialogue during the Norwegian Prime Minister's visit to India in January.

GeM and CCI Sign MoU for Fair Environment in e-Marketplace

Government e Marketplace (GeM) and Competition Commission of India (CCI) entered into an MoU to enable a fair and competitive environment in the e-Marketplace. The Chairman CCI, A.K. Gupta, CEO GeM, S. Radha Chauhan were present on the occasion

India-China Amends Double Taxation Avoidance Treaty

India and China have signed a protocol to amend the Double Taxation Avoidance Agreement (DTAA) for the avoidance of double taxation and prevention of fiscal evasion with respect to taxes on income. According to a statement by the Ministry of Finance, besides other changes, the protocol has the existing provisions for exchange of information to the latest international standards.

India and Bangladesh Signed MoU for Training 1800 Bangladesh Civil Servants

India and Bangladesh have signed an MoU for training 1800 Bangladesh Civil Servants at the National Centre for Good Governance (NCGG), an institute under the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances (DAR&PG), Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances & Pensions, Govt. of India, over the next 6 years.

MoU between India and Nepal

India and Nepal have signed an MoU on Preliminary Engineering-cum-Traffic Survey on Broad Gauge Rail Line between Raxaul (Bihar) and Kathmandu. Indian Ambassador to Nepal, Manjeev Singh Puri and Nepal's Secretary of Ministry of Physical Planning and Works, Madhusudan Adhikari signed the MoU in Kathmandu.

India and Nepal had agreed in April 2018 to construct a new electrified rail line with India's financial support connecting the border city of Raxaul in India to Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal.

MOU between India and Morocco

India and Morocco signed an MoU for deepening cooperation between MSME sectors of the two countries in Rabat, Morocco.

Committee to cease illegal groundwater extraction

The National Green Tribunal has constituted a committee to formulate steps to cease illegal groundwater extraction.

The committee comprises joint secretaries of Ministry of Environment and Forests and Ministry of Water Resources, Central Ground Water Board, National Institute of Hydrology (Roorkee), National Remote Sensing Centre and Central Pollution Control Board.

The committee aims to ensure that groundwater is not illegally extracted and to monitor manning and functioning of the Central Ground Water Authority (CGWA).

Committee on corporate loans

RBI has constituted a six-member committee on the Development of Secondary Market for Corporate Loans to come up with recommendations to increase the efficiencies of the debt market and aid in the resolution of stressed assets.

The committee, headed by TN Manoharan, Chairman, Canara Bank, will make recommendations on required policy/regulatory interventions for facilitating the development of the secondary market in corporate loans, including loan transaction platform for stressed assets.

Advisory Board for Banking Frauds

The Central Vigilance Commission has constituted a 4-member Advisory Board for Banking Frauds. The ABBF will be headed by former Vigilance Commissioner T.M. Bhasin.

The panel will function as the 1st level of examination of all large fraud cases. Lenders will refer all large fraud cases above Rs 50 crore to the board and on receipt of its recommendation or advice; the bank concerned would take further action in such matters.

The panel was previously called the Advisory Board on Bank, Commercial and Financial Frauds.

High-level committee recommends strategy to reduce crude oil imports

In a report submitted to the oil ministry, a high-level committee (HLC) of companies has recommended strategies to reduce import dependency.

The committee was formed to discuss research-related synergies and tax issues for state-run oil companies. The committee consisted of Anil Kakodkar (scientist) and Sidharth Pradhan, an expert on financial and tax issues.

"They also looked into mergers, acquisitions and consolidation of oil and gas public sector undertakings (PSUs) and the joint ventures". During 2018, India consumed 204.92 MMT petroleum products and 58.64 billion cubic meters (BCM) natural gas, whereas the domestic production of crude oil and natural gas has almost stagnated.

Indian Navy's 1st Full-Fledged SSB opened at Kolkata

The Indian Navy's first full-fledged Services Selection Board (SSB) was inaugurated by Navy Chief Admiral Sunil Lamba at Diamond Harbour near Kolkata, West Bengal.

The SSB (Kolkata) is located at a place that was previously occupied by a Naval Coastal Battery. This is the fifth SSB of the Indian Navy. The other boards are located in Bhopal, Bengaluru, Visakhapatnam and Coimbatore.

Government reconstitutes 8 cabinet committees

The Government has reconstituted eight Cabinet Committees. These are Appointments Committee, Committees on Accommodation, Economic Affairs. Parliamentary Affairs, Political Affairs, Security, Investment and Growth and Cabinet Committee on Employment and Skill Development. The Cabinet Committee on Security will have Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Home Minister Amit Shah, Minister of Finance and Corporate Affairs Nirmala Sitharaman and External Affairs Minister Dr. S Jaishankar. Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has Prime Minister Modi and Mr Shah.

Young Scientist Programme 'YUVIKA'

Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has launched a special programme for schoolchildren called Young Scientist Programme or Yuva Vigyani Karyakram (YUVIKA), in tune with the government's vision "Jai Vigyan, Jai Anusandhan". The program is primarily aimed at imparting basic knowledge on space technology, space science and space applications to the younger ones with the intent of arousing their interest in the emerging areas of space activities.

Committee to implement national clean air programme

The Union Environment Ministry has constituted a committee to implement the National Clean Air Programme (NCAP), which aims to reduce particulate matter (PM) pollution by 20%-30% in at least 102 cities by 2024. The committee will be chaired by the Secretary, Union Environment Ministry. It would be headquartered in New Delhi.

GoM to Look into Sexual Harassment at work place

The Union Government constituted a four-member Group of Ministers (GoM) to examine and strengthen the existing legal and institutional frameworks for dealing with matters of sexual harassment of women at the workplace. The Group of Ministers will be headed by Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh.

Parliamentary Panel to Examine Functioning of EPFO

A parliamentary panel will examine the functioning of retirement fund body Employees Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO), its coverage and recovery of arrears. The panel will be headed by BJP MP Kirk Somaiya.

The panel has selected a wide range of subjects related to labourers, including the International Labour Organisation conventions binding on India and the measures taken by the government to implement them.

Lokpal Search Committee

The government has set up an eight-member Lokpal Search Committee under the Chairmanship of former Supreme Court Judge, Justice Ranjana Prakash Desal. Prasar Bharati Chairman A Surya Prakash, former SBI Chief Arundhati Bhattacharya and Justice Sukha Ram Singh Yadav among others will be members of the panel. An official order issued by Ministry of Personnel stated that the panel will recommend the names for the Chairperson and Members of the Lokpal to the Lokpal Selection Committee.

Supreme Court Constitutes Committee To look Into Jail Reforms

The Supreme Court constituted a three-member committee headed by its former judge Justice Amitava Roy to look into the aspect of jail reforms across the country and suggest measures to deal with them. A bench headed by Justice M B Lokur said the panel will look into the issues including over-crowding in prisons.

The Supreme court on August 27 had reserved its order on the issue of constituting a committee to deal with issues pertaining to jails and suggest reforms for prisons across the country. The committee will also look into the various issues concerning women prisoners.

B Sesikeran Committee

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) constituted a group of experts from the health and nutrition sector to look into the issue of food labelling. The expert panel will be headed by B Sesikeran. Mr Sesikeran is the former director of National Institute of Nutrition (NIN).

Operation Kayla Mueller

The Stealth Operation recently launched to kill the Islamic State leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi was named after Kayla Mueller. Kayla Mueller was an American human rights activist. He was abducted by the extremist group (ISIS) in 2013 and murdered in 2015 after being held in captivity for 18 months. Abu Bala al-Baghdadi was the leader of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria-ISIS. It established the Zebhat al-Nusra terrorist organization in Syria in 2012, which was renamed ISIS in 2013.1t was named a global terrorist by the United States Department of State.

Exercise Maitree 2019

India and Thailand are all set to organize Joint Military Exercise MAITREE-2019 at Foreign Training Node, Umroi (Meghalaya) from 16-29 Sep 2019. Both the countries have already conducted two such military exercises in past one month.

The exercise `MAITREE' is an annual training event which is being conducted alternatively in India and Thailand since 2006.

SLINEX 2019: Indo-Lanka maritime fleet exercise

`SLINEX 2019', the bilateral maritime exercise between India and Sri Lanka commenced on 7 September 2019 at Visakhapatnam (Andhra Pradesh). Sri Lankan Navy has sent two offshore patrol vessels SLNS Sindurala and SLNS Suranimala to India to participate in seventh annual Joint Indo-Lanka Maritime Fleet Exercise- SLINEX 2019.

The exercise signifies the desire of both countries to enhance co-operation and to further strengthen mutual trust and interoperability between the two navies.

Operation Number Plate

Indian Railways' Railway Protection Force (RPF) launched a drive named 'Operation Number Plate' under the direction of the Director General of RPF Shri Arun Kumar, to check and verify unauthorised parking in the railway premises.

The drive was conducted from August 9-11, at 466 Railway stations of India in view of the forthcoming Independence Day celebration on August 15, 2019. Unauthorized parking of unidentified vehicles are considered as a threat to the safety and security of passengers. Hence the Principal Chief Security Commissioners of RPF and all zonal Railways have been instructed to look into the threats related to security of Railways

Naval exercise MILAN

The Indian Navy is to host the multilateral naval exercise named 'MILAN' at Visakhapatnam for the year 2020 in the month of March. The announcement for this exercise was made by Vice Admiral Atul Kumar Jain, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Eastern Naval Command (ENC) at the INS (Indian Navy Ship) Circars Parade Ground in the ENC on the occasion of 73rd Independence day.

Mission Reach Out

On August 10, 2019, The Indian Army has launched a "Mission Reach Out" post revocation of Article 370 in Jammu Division to ensure basic necessities and essential services are available in the region.

Under this mission, Army has undertaken many initiatives which includes, providing water in locations where supply is disrupted and mobile medical care units with essential medicines, giving essentials including rations, assistance in transportation of patients to hospitals, facilitating people to speak to their near and dear ones through Army exchange and creating a safe environment for ATMs, banks and hospitals to function.

Clean-Green Arunachal Campaign 2019

Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh launched the statewide tree plantation programme 'Clean-Green Arunachal Campaign 2019' in Itanagar.

Under this campaign State Forest department had planted 1-lakh tree saplings in 24 hours. This campaign is a part of Van Mahotsav celebration and has set the target of planting 1 Crore tree within the next five years.

TSENTR 2019

Indian army will participate in a multilateral exercise "TSENTR 2019" to be held in Russia. Armies of Pakistan, China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and Russia will also participate in the exercise.

This will be the first time that forces from India and Pakistan will participate in a multilateral exercise together since the Balakot airstrikes conducted by Indian forces.

The exercise is a part of the annual series of large scale exercises that form part of the Russian Armed Forces' annual training cycle. The exercise rotates between the four main Russian operational strategic commands.

Rohit4Rhinos campaign

Indian Cricket team vice-captain Rohit Sharma is launching Rohit4Rhinos campaign, in partnership with WWF India and Animal Planet. This campaign helps to build awareness for the need to conserve the Greater One-Horned Rhinoceros or the Indian Rhino.

The Indian rhinoceros faces several threats, including poaching, habitat loss and mass mortality from inbreeding and disease.

"Mega Vendor Meet 2019"

Research Designs and Standards Organization organized the "Mega Vendor Meet 2019" at Lucknow. The special meet was organized to expand vendor base and spread information on greater business opportunities in Railways Sector. Research Designs and Standards Organization is a research wing of Indian Railways.

"Jan Jagrukta Abhiyaan"

Ministry of Health and Family Welfare will launch a Jan Jagrukta Abhiyaan in Delhi to accelerate measures for prevention and control of Vector Borne Diseases like Malaria, Dengue and Chikungunya.

It starts from 17th to 19th July, 2019 in Delhi through active involvement of people's representatives, officers from Government of India, Government of NCT Delhi, all three Delhi Municipal Corporations, New Delhi Municipal Council, Railways and Cantonment board and other stakeholders to combat malaria, dengue and chikungunya.

Internet of Things India Congress 2019

The 4th edition of India's largest confluence of digital technology, the Internet of Things (loT) India Congress 2019 held in Bengaluru. Karnataka with the theme of 'Mainstreaming the Internet of Things'. It was inaugurated by Shri Ajay Prakash Sawhney, Secretary, Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology, Government of India(Gol).

The IoT India Congress 2019 will include tracks on segments such as healthcare, manufacturing, telecom, smart cities, energy, retail, cybersecurity, skills and development, IoT Standards, legal and regulatory, and agriculture.

Yudh Abhyas 2019

lndo-US defence cooperation, a joint military training, Exercise "Yudh Abhyas 2019". This exercise is being conducted at Joint Base Lewis Mc Chord, Washington, the USA from 05-18 September 2019. Exercise Yudh Abhyas is one of the largest joint running military training and defence corporation endeavours between

India and USA. This will be the 15th edition of the joint exercise hosted alternately between the two countries.

The exercise is also an ideal platform to learn from each other's expertise and experiences of planning and execution of operations.

'Aqua Aquaria India' 2019

Vice-President Venkaiah Naidu will inaugurate the 5th edition of the aquaculture event, Aqua Aquaria India, in Hyderabad.

The theme for this year's event is 'Taking Blue Revolution to India's Hinterland'.

This event organized for encouraging diversification and intensification of aquaculture in a sustainable manner. This is an initiative of the Marine Products Export Development Authority (MPEDA) under the Commerce Ministry.

1st ASEAN-US Maritime Exercise (AUMX)

The first ASEAN-US Maritime Exercise (AUMX) between the regional bloc and Washington, starting at the Sattahip Naval Base in Thailand and ending in Singapore.

This drill is Co-led by the US and Royal Thai navies, the exercises will stretch into "international waters in Southeast Asia, including the Gulf of Thailand and the South China Sea". The drills come at a time of stepped-up US engagement in the region and tensions between Beijing and Southeast Asian nations over the South China Sea.

Operation Thirst

RPF launched "Operation Thirst" to crack down selling of unauthorized Packaged Drinking Water in the railway premises.

Indo-French Joint Air Exercise Garuda-VI

The Indian and French Air Force has started Garuda V I exercise at Mont de Marsan in France. The exercise is scheduled to take place from 1 July to July 12, 2019, in France.

The Indian Air Force (IAF) contingent comprises of 120 air-warriors and four Sukhoi 30 MKI along with an IL-78 flight refuelling aircraft.

Jai Shaktl Abhiyan

Union Jai Shaktl Minister has launched a water conservation campaign 'Jai Shakti Abhiyan', with an emphasis on 1592 stressed blocks in 256 districts.

The campaign will run through citizen participation during the monsoon 1st July-15th September.

An additional phase II will run from 1st October-30th November for states receiving the northeast retreating monsoons.

The campaign will focus on five aspects: water conservation and rainwater harvesting, renovation of traditional and other water bodies, reuse of water and recharging of structures, watershed development, and intensive afforestation.

ISALEX19 Exercise

The International Security Alliance's first Joint Exercise ISALEX19 started in Abu Dhabi. The exercise is hosted by the UAE Ministry of Interior (Mot).

The exercise witnessed the participation of 50 representatives from law enforcement agencies of the International Security Alliance (ISA) countries.

‘Tribes India’ & ‘Go Tribal Campaign’

The Minister of State for Tribal Affairs launched the following campaigns for the Tribes of India in New Delhi: `Go Tribal Campaign' of Tribes India launched to promote the use of tribal handicrafts, handicrafts and natural products.

`Tribes India' launched globally through Amazon Global Selling to step up Exports of Tribal Products.

Kaleshwaram project

The Kaleshwaram Lift irrigation Project which is one of the world's largest multi stage and multipurpose lift irrigation scheme, was inaugurated by Telangana Chief Minister in Jayashankar-Bhupalapally district of Telangana.

The Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project envisages irrigation over 37 lakh acres of new and existing area in 21 districts of the State.

Operation Sankalp

Indian Navy launched Operation Sankalp in the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman to reassure Indian flagged vessels safe transit through the area.

INS Chennai and INS Sunayna have been deployed in the region to undertake maritime security operations. In addition, aerial surveillance in the area is also being done by IN aircraft.

Kids Right Index 2019

India stands in a lowly 117th position out of 181 countries in the Kids Right Index, the annual global index which ranks how countries adhere to and are equipped to improve child rights. Iceland secured the top position in the index followed by Portugal.

Countries are judged on five indicators: right to life, right to education, right to health, right to protection and enabling environment for child rights.

Taiwan Expo 2019 begins in New Delhi

Taiwan Expo 2019 began in Pragati Maidan, New Delhi. India Signs 'Christchurch Call to Action'

India signed the 'Christchurch Call to Action' in Paris. The agreement came in the backdrop of the attacks on mosques in March and is aimed at stopping the abuse of the Internet by extremists.

Varuna 19.1 Bilateral Exercise

The first part of the Indo-French joint naval exercise, Varuna 19.1 was kicked off the Goa coast.

The 17th edition includes the participation of the French Navy's aircraft carrier FNS Charles de Gaulle, two destroyers, FNS Forbin and FNS Provence, the frigate FNS Latouche-Treville, the tanker FNS Marne and a nuclear submarine.

The exercise will be conducted in two phases. The second part, Varuna 19.2, is scheduled to be held at the end of May in Djibouti. The bilateral naval exercise initiated in 1983 and christened as 'Varuna' in 2001, form a vital part of the Indo-French strategic partnership.

Indo-Vietnam Bilateral Exercise 'IN—VPN BILAT EX'

The Indian Navy held the 2nd edition of the bilateral maritime exercise between the Indian Navy and Vietnam Peoples' Navy, (IN — VPN BILAT EX) at Cam Ranh Bay, Vietnam during 13th to 16th April, 2019. The exercise was undertaken as a part of the ongoing Overseas Deployment of Eastern Fleet ships to South East Asian countries. Joint Military Exercise 'African Lion 2019'

The joint military exercise between Morocco and the US, "African Lion 2019," kicked off in southern Morocco. The exercise marks the participation of thousands of military officers. Bilateral Exercise AUSINDEX

The third edition of the biennial, bilateral exercise AUSINDEX 19 between India and Australia will be held in Vishakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh.

The upcoming exercise will focus on anti-submarine warfare and will see Australia's largest defence force deployment in India.

Joint Military Exercise Sampriti 2019

Exercise Sampriti-VIII, a joint Indo-Bangladesh military exercise which witnessed participation of a company group of 9th Battalion the Rajputana Rifles from the Indian Army and the Company of 36 East Bengal Battalion, Bangladesh Army concluded at Tangail, Bangladesh. The closing ceremony was graced by HE Mrs. Riva Ganguly Das, Indian High Commissioner who highlighted the special bonds between the two nations.

Joint Ex Al Nagah 2019

Indo Oman Joint Exercise Al Nagah 2019, a joint military exercise between Indian and Royal Army of Oman (RAO), commenced this morning at HQ Jabel Regiment, N izwa, Oman.

The opening ceremony saw the unfurling of the national flags of both countries with Omani and Indian soldiers standing side by side signifying the growing cooperation, synergy and understanding between both the countries.

'Exercise Topchi'

Indian Army showcased its artillery firepower by using ultralight Howitzers and indigenous Swathi weapon-locating radar at the annual "Exercise Topchi". The exercise was held at Deolali Camp near Nashik. There were a showcase of display of rockets, missiles, surveillance, and target acquisition radars, remotely piloted aircraft and hi-tech equipment in addition to gunfire.

'Exercise Rahat'

Joint Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief Exercise 'Exercise Rabat' concluded in Jaipur, (Rajasthan). It was demonstrated in Jaipur, Kota, and Alwar in Rajasthan. Indian Army was represented by Jaipur based Sapta Shakti Command. Representatives from Armed Forces, National Disaster Management Response Mechanism (NDMRM), SDMA Rajasthan and DLMAs participated in the exercise.

"Global Bio-India 2019" Summit

India will host the Global Bio-lndia 2019, one of the largest biotechnology stakeholders conglomerate for the first time. It was held at New Delhi from 21st to 23rd November, 2019. 1st conference on military medicine

The 1st conference on military medicine for the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) member states will be held in Delhi. The conference will be the first military co-operation event hosted by India, under the SCO Defence Co-operation Plan 2019-2020, after it became an SCO member-state in 2017.

The conference will be conducted by the Indian Armed Forces under the aegis of Headquarters Integrated Defence Staff (HQ IDS), with the aim to share best practices in the field of military medicine, build capacities and overcome a common challenge.

During the conference, the Indian Armed Forces will also demonstrate the Rapid Action Medical Team and organise a visit for the delegates to the Army Research and Referral Hospital.

Indian Ocean Conference 2019

4th Indian Ocean Conference 2019 was recently held in Male, Maldives. Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar was one of the speakers at the Indian Ocean Conference 2019 event.

The Group of 7 or G7 Summit has begun in Biarritz, France. Bureau of Police research and development will organize the National Conference on "Criminal Activities and Radicalization in Jails: Vulnerability of Inmates and Jail Staff and their Protection" in New Delhi. Philippines, Malaysia, Singapore, Cambodia, Thailand, Myanmar and Indonesia took part in the summit tag-lined Connectivity: Pathway to Shared Prosperity, organised by India Foundation and the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India.

Global Investors Summit

Tamil Nadu Government organised the 2nd edition of Global Investor Summit in Chennai.

The state government would soon unveil e-vehicle policy to give a boost to electric vehicles manufacturing in the state. In the opening ceremony, the Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman was the chief guest. Tamil Nadu Government has allocated nearly Rs. 75 crores to conduct the event.

India's 1st Global Mobility Summit

D Prime Minister Modi inaugurated India's first Global Mobility summit 'MOVE' in New Delhi. Comprehensive discussions along 5 themes took place ranging from electrification and alternative fuels and reinventing public transport. The two-day meet of stakeholders has been organized by the NITI Aayog.

The summit deliberated on 5 themes, comprehensive: electrification & alternative fuels, reinventing public transport, goods transport & logistics and data analytics and mobility. The main focus of the summit is to make cities of India pollution free.

The three-day World Hindu Congress has begun in Chicago, the USA. Over 2000 delegates from across the globe are participating in this mega event. The theme of World Hindu Congress is 'think collectively, achieve valiantly'.

India Mobile Congress

India Mobile Congress is one of the biggest marquee Mobile, Internet, and Technology event for South-East Asia organized by COAL and DoT. IMC 2018 was held in Aerocity, New Delhi. The congress was held under the theme of NEW DIGITAL HORIZONS.

The 5th National Summit on Good and Replicable Practices and Innovations in Public Health care Systems in India has begun at Kaziranga in Assam. State Chief Minister Sarbanand Sonowal and Union Health Minister J P Nadda inaugurated the three-day summit.

27th IAEA Fusion Energy Conference

The 27th IAEA Fusion Energy Conference (FEC 2018) has started in Gandhinagar, Gujarat. The FEC 2018 aims to provide a forum for the discussion of key physics and technology issues as well as innovative concepts of direct relevance to the use of nuclear fusion as a source of energy.

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) fosters the exchange of scientific and technical results in nuclear fusion research and development through its series of Fusion Energy Conferences.

13th India-Japan Summit

The 13th Annual Summit between India and Japan was held in presence of PM Narendra Modi and his Japanese counterpart Shinzo Abe in Tokyo, Japan. Issues of mutual interest, including forging ties in newer areas were discussed during the talks. 2!. The areas include health, digital technologies, agriculture and food processing and disaster risk reduction.

17th CHG Meeting of SCO

Late External Affairs Minister (EAM) Sushma Swaraj participated in the 17th Council of Heads of Government (CHG), meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization to be held in Dushanbe, Tajikistan. Last year, CHG meeting was held in Sochi, Russia and was also attended by EAM. The SCO CHG meeting is a forum that enables India to engage with SCO member countries and Observer states of Afghanistan, Belarus, Iran and Mongolia.

'Smart India Hackathon- 2019'

The third edition of World's Biggest Open Innovation Model - Smart India Hackathon 2019 - was launched by the Union Minister for Human Resource Development, Prakash Javadekar in New Delhi. KURD, AICTE, Persistent Systems and i4c have joined hands to make a hat trick with their highly popular and innovative Smart India Hackathon initiative (RH).

For the 1st time, Private industry/organisations and NGOs can also send their problem statements to students under SIH-2019.

International Buddhist Conclave

President Ram Nath Kovind inaugurated the International Buddhist Conclave in New Delhi. The theme of the conclave is 'Buddha Path — The Living Heritage'.

The Ministerial level delegation from ASEAN countries will participate in the conclave along with delegates from 29 countries including US, UK, Germany, France and Russia. This year Japan is the partnering country for the Buddhist conclave.

Jaipur Literature Festival

The Jaipur Literature Festival began in Houston at the Asia Society of Texas. The festival, touted as the world's largest free literary gathering, started with a soulful music performance by Indian Sufi singer Zila Khan.

The inaugural session also saw Congress leader and writer Shashi Tharoor discuss his book "Why i am a Hindu" with writer Namita Gokhale.

G-20 Trade and Investment Ministerial Meeting

Commerce and Industry Minister Suresh Prabhu participated in G-20 trade and investment ministerial meeting at Mar del Plata in Argentina. Issues including increasing protectionism challenges to promote global commerce and the new industrial revolution were discussed at the meeting. The members of the G20 include Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Republic of Korea, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Turkey, the United Kingdom, the United States and the European Union.

4th International Ayurveda Congress

Minister of State for AYUSH Shripad Yesso Naik inaugurated the Fourth International Ayurveda Congress (IAvC) at the Netherlands.

The congress would focus on promotion and propagation of ayurveda in the Netherlands and its neighbouring countries of Europe. A special seminar is also organized by the Indian Embassy titled "India-Netherlands collaboration in Healthcare, including Ayurveda".

24th World Congress of Philosophy

On August 16, 2018, the 24th World Congress of Philosophy (WCP) was held in Beijing, China from August 13 to 17, 2018. It was organized by the International Federation of Philosophical Societies, and Peking University. Its theme was "Learning To Be Human".

4th BIMSTEC Summit

The 4th BIMSTEC Summit has been successfully concluded in Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal.

The Prime Minister of Nepal K.P. Sharma Oli presented draft Kathmandu declaration which was unanimously adopted by the all member states.

The Kathmandu Declaration has underlined the importance of multidimensional connectivity as a key enabler to economic integration for the shared prosperity of the region.

51st ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting

On August 2, 2018, 51st ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting was held in Singapore. Negotiations on regional comprehensive economic partnership agreement were held between the ASEAN nations. Further meetings of China-ASEAN foreign ministers meeting, the foreign minister meetings of the East Asia Summit and the ASEAN-China, Japan and Republic of Korea (10+3) foreign ministers' meeting will be held in Singapore .

These would focus on multilateral trade, Internet security, counter-terrorism, smart cities, regional security and people-to-people exchanges. The proposal of Thailand on establishment of ASEAN Centre for Sustainable Development Studies and Dialogue in Bangkok in 2019 was addressed. Singapore's proposal to convene a Track 1.5 symposium on counter-terrorism in October 2018 titled, "The 2018 Southeast Asia Counter-Terrorism Symposium: A Collective Approach" was accepted.
