With OECD Conclusions
The Role of INEGI
INEGI is a federal office that coordinates the production, standardization and dissemination of all statistical and geographical information of national interest
The National System of Statistical and Geographical Information
It’s defined as a set of Units that are organized through the subsystems, coordinated by the INEGI and articulated by means of the National Network of Information in order to produce and to spread the information of national importance
The National Network of Information
Set of interchange processes and safeguard of information to support on the one hand the activities of the National System of Statistical and Geographic Information and its subsystems and by the another one the benefit of the Public Service of Information to all the society.

The Website of Mexico for Information Exchange With OECD
The Website is part of the SISNIEG (The Information System of the National System of Statistical and Geographical Information)
It’s a mean of coordination among Mexican statistical information production units
Website Interface
Reception of Information
Working Plan
Integration of information from Mexican agencies that has to be sent to the OECD
Gradual transformation of data files to SDMX format
In the near future we are planning to establish web services to automate information exchange with those agencies
Achievements
The areas of statistical information production from INEGI have been capacitated on basic SDMX issues
23 offices have already a login and a password to deposit information
About 60 persons from 30 offices have been trained on SDMX issues Conceptual aspects Transformation of indicators to SDMX ML compact
model We plan to start putting official information on the site
this year
Factors That Are Helping Us With the Task
Collaboration with the Mexican Foreign Relations Federal Department
We are offering an easy way to get in the project (we don’t expect too much at the beginning)
Interest of the technical areas from INEGI and from the federal departments
Perceived Usefulness A spirit of team working Institutional commitment
Conclusions
Initial steps when working with SDMX must be easy to follow by potential adopters
SDMX-ML Compact model is helpful at the beginning because it has a short and defined set of data a metadata
A successful implementation of SDMX standards must consider internal and external processes
To extend the use of SDMX is necessary to have initial understanding of it’s basis and at least some short implementations
To obtain the full potential of the standard it’s necessary to make decisions about contents to define the Data Structure Definitions. Those decisions are made by information producers and supported by people from IT
We can get commitment from the adopters only if we can prove that this standard is useful for them
