BackgroundBackground registered on 24th June 1992 as
a company limited by guarantee under the Companies Act 1965.
the Board of Directors is the authoritative body that makes policies and decisions and its members are individuals from government, unions and the industrial sector. While NIOSH management team is the administrative body who runs the daily operations of NIOSH.
NIOSH was established with an endowment fund from SOCSO and from the Government. This fund was invested to become part of NIOSH’s source of income.

ROLE OF NIOSH MALAYSIA
NIOSH’s function is to provide training, consultation services, disseminate information and conduct research in the field of occupational safety and health (OSH). As written in the Memorandum and Articles of Association, the objectives of the institute are :
To contribute towards efforts in upgrading occupational safety and health through developing curriculum and training programmes for workers and employees, employers and those responsible, either directly or indirectly for occupational safety and health.
To assist industry, commerce and others to solve problems relating to occupational safety and health.
To assist those who are responsible for occupational safety and health with the latest information in the field of occupational safety and health in the country and overseas.
To conduct short-term and long-term research in occupational safety and health related areas that will benefit and bring advantages to the country.
To disseminate information on research findings and to become the centre of reference in the field of occupational safety and health.
FUNCTIONS OF NIOSH MALAYSIA
1. Executive Diploma in OSH (EDOSH) – Joint programme between NIOSH and Open University Malaysia (OUM)
i. SPM / MCE and 3 years relevant work experience; OR
ii. Certificate of Safety and Health Officer recognized by NIOSH with 1 year relevant work experience; OR
iii. Registered Safety and Health Officer (eligible for exemptions of 2 modules)
2. Master in OSH Management (MOSH) - Joint programme between NIOSH and Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM)
i. Bachelor’s degree with honours from UUM or other recognised or accredited local and foreign universities and a relevant working experience of at least a year; OR
ii. Bachelor’s degree with a relevant working experience of at least three (3) years; OR
iii. Any other equivalent qualification recognised by Universiti Utara Malaysia
