Cooperative Summit

Overview of

The National Cooperative Summit (NCS) is among the major events of the Philippine cooperative movement where PCC is the lead convener and CDA as co-convener. Held once every two years, this is one effective way of bringing federations, unions and primary cooperatives and other organizations in both government and private sectors supporting cooperatives to discuss issues and concerns affecting the movement. The National Cooperative Summit comes up with resolutions and agreements to determine the future of the cooperatives vis-a-vis rapidly changing socio-economic shifts both within the country as well as globally.

The Summits take place in various cities of the country. While the selection of the host city takes place during the conclusion of every Summit, such move also gives the various cities - and the coop entities in their locales as well as the federations and unions they belong, a chance to showcase their growth prospects and potentials on an expanded, national scale.

PCC has been the lead convener beginning with the 7th NCS which was held in Bacolod City in 2004; then at the 8th NCS, Puerto Princesa, Palawan, 2006; 9th NCS, Pili, Camarines Sur, 2008; the 10th NCS, Quezon City, Metro Manila, 2010; the 11th NCS, Cagayan de Oro City 2012; the 12th NCS, Cebu City; 2014; and the 13th NCS, SM Mall of Asia, Pasay City, Metro Manila, 2016.

The Summits have adopted different themes. For the 14th NCS, which is slated on October 3 - 5 at the SMX Convention Center, SM Premier, Lanang, Davao City, has taken as its theme "Overcoming Challenges, Succeeding Under One Apex". This is very timely in the light of PCC's role as the Apex of Cooperatives in the country, and how its new role can harness the movement to brave greater opportunities. Cooperatives can help enhance socio-economic transformation in this new era of dynamic changes for the vast majority of Filipinos.

The MASS-SPECC Cooperative Development Center is the local host for this 14th National Cooperative Summit.
