CC snapped a nine-game winless streak with a 3-0 win over Merrimack in the second semifinal of the Flor - ida College Hockey Classic in Estero, Fla. The win was the Tigers’ fourth of the season, all of which have come away from home (4-5-1). Three of CC’s four wins have now come against Hockey East foes (Oct. 8 at UMass and Oct. 22 at New Hampshire). With the win, the Tigers advance to Thursday night’s Florida Col- lege Hockey Classic championship game against host Cornell, who beat Northern Michigan, 5-2, Wednesday. In CC’s only other appearance in the tournament in 2009, the Tigers finished second, topping Cornell in the semifinals but falling to Maine in the championship game. The shutout was CC’s first this season and first since a 5-0 victo- ry over Western Michigan on Feb. 28, 2015. It was also the team’s first shutout away from home since March 22, 2013, a 2-0 victory over No. 1 Minnesota in the WCHA Final Five. Freshman goaltender Alex Leclerc stopped all 26 shots he faced for his first collegiate shutout Wednesday. Sophomore forward Mason Bergh scored CC’s first two goals in the win, both on the power play. It was his second multi-goal game this sea- son (Nov. 5 at Omaha) and of his career. He leads the Tigers with nine goals and 12 points this year after only four goals his freshman campaign. CC senior forward Matt Hansen dished out a career-high three assists as he set up all three goals in the win. He had one assist and one point all season in seven games played entering Wednesday’s contest. The three points were also a career high as he had only one career multi- point game entering Wednesday -- a goal and an assist on March 4, 2016 vs. St. Cloud State. With CC’s win, the NCHC now boasts a combined .621 non-con- ference winning percentage (35-19-12) this season, which regains the top non-conference win percentage for the NCHC among the six NCAA Division I men’s conferences. The Big Ten is second at .618 (42-24-10). No. 16 Western Michigan faces in-state rival and former CCHA foe Michigan State, now of the Big Ten, Thursday night in the Great Lakes Invitational in the other game involving an NCHC team. NCHC teams are 6-4-4 against Big Ten teams this season, including 2-1-1 against the Spartans. WMU last played in the GLI in 2013, winning the tournament outdoors at Comerica Park with wins over Michigan and Michigan Tech. At the 2017 World Junior Championship in Canada, St. Cloud State head coach Bob Motzko has led Team USA to a 2-0-0-0 start. DU soph- omore forward Troy Terry has a goal and two assists so far while SCSU freshman defenseman Jack Ahcan has an assist. UND freshman forward Tyson Jost has a goal and an assist in two games for Canada, as well. Wednesday Round-up/InteR-ConfeRenCe ReCoRds

After 11 days without any National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC) teams in action, Colorado College returned to the ice

in strong fashion, starting the second half of the season with a 3-0 shutout of Merrimack in the second semifinal of the Florida College Hockey Classic at Germain Arena in Estero, Fla. The Tigers (4-12-1) pitched their first shutout of the season as freshman goaltender Alex Leclerc earned his first career whitewash with a 26-save perfor-mance. All four of CC’s wins this season have now come away from home with three wins over Hockey East foes, as they snapped a nine-game winless skid overall. Sophomore forward Mason Bergh scored the Tigers’ first two goals, both on the power play, striking only three minutes into the game and again in the third period. CC added an insurance goal late while senior forwards Matt Hansen and Luc Gerdes combined for five assists with Hansen’s three a career high for assists and points. The Tigers were outshot by Merrimack (6-9-3) in the win, 26-25. Colorado College advances to Thursday night’s championship game where they’ll face host Cornell for the title at 7:30 p.m. ET. CC was the runner-up at the Florida College Hockey Classic back in 2009, its only other appearance in the tour-nament.

In addition to the Tigers playing in the Florida College Hockey Clas-sic championship game against Cornell, No. 16 Western Michigan returns to the ice Thursday night as the Broncos battle in-state and former CCHA rival Michigan State in the second semifinal of the Great Lakes Invitational at Joe Louis Arena in Detroit at 7 p.m. ET. The WMU game is available on national TV on FOX College Sports Atlantic and regionally on FOX Sports Detroit. No. 2/2 Denver, No. 18 St. Cloud State and No. 20 Omaha all resume play on Friday.
