Engineering ProjectsYear 1Buggy Project: As part of a team of five, I assisted in the design and building of circuitry to power and control a small buggy. Circuitry included two H-Bridges and circuits to transmit and receive a signal from a microcontroller to a receiver on the buggy. We wrote a code in C/C++ to control the signal via the microcontroller.Game of Life: I wrote a code in C/C++ to implement Conway’s Game of Life on a small LCD screen via a microcontroller.

Year 2Mobile Applications Project: I will write a code in Objective-C for an app that I will design to be used on iOS devices using a software called xcode which is available on MacOS. Embedded Systems Project: This will take place during Semester 2 of Year 2.

AchievementsAttained Black Belt in karate and have previously represented England at competition level, placed 2nd nationally and 1st regionally.Trusted in positions of management when required during previous work despite only being a part-time employee.Took it upon myself to work abroad for an extended period of time aged 17 rather than pursuing education without a set goal.

Technical SkillsProgramming in C/C++Simple functions in MATLABSimulating circuits with software such as MultisimPractical lab skills – especially debugging circuitry

Key Employability SkillsCommunication – I have always worked as part of a vocal team in a retail environment but my communication skills were refined particularly while working abroad and my first language could always be depended upon.Awareness – I believe it is important to understand the aims of a business and how a business functions in order to be a key, useful employee. It is also important to understand the needs of customers and see your work from their perspective.Independence – Once I understand the duties of a role I need very little supervision and can be relied upon fully.Problem Solving – I have learned to solve problems on my own using experience and knowledge, particularly with issues regarding warranty procedure at my current employment.

Employment HistoryCeX, Tyne & Wear and LeedsApr 2013 – PresentI have worked in four different stores in the Tyne & Wear area, all of which are joint-owned as part of a franchise. I have secured part time work in Leeds alongside my studies after recommendations were received by my previous franchisee. I operated tills – buying goods; selling goods; communicating with other stores; checking stock; adjusting stock; transferring items out to and in from other stores; checking history of items etc.I organised stock – the shop floor was home to boxes for software items (DVDs and games etc) which I organised and behind glass cabinets I arranged hardware items (phones, games consoles and laptops etc).I spoke to customers to help them and solve problems as well as to advise them on purchases and warranty procedure.

Tuvsjyen AS, Saltstraumen, NorwayMarch 2012 – October 2012A business owned by my Aunt and Uncle that provides accommodation, rental boats and fishing equipment. My duties included preparing accommodation and boats for customers; preparing the restaurant for breakfasts and evening meals; driving boats between two locations for customers and small cleaning roles in a kitchen. I also did many “odd jobs” that varied in content and always required problem solving and initiative. These seemingly less significant jobs were the most rewarding and beneficial in terms of experience gained.
