I have been out doorknocking in the electorate and holding mobile offices to meet with local residents to speak about issues and ideas for the Nightcliff Community. Residents have expressed concerns regarding ansocial behaviour, traffic congeson and the need for strategic plan for the area. In parliament I delivered a speech asking the CLP Government to revoke the exploraon lease that allowed preliminary drilling on the potenal Nightcliff Island site. I am determined to ensure this proposal is withdrawn completely and ensure the Nightcliff and Coconut Grove coast is protected from future developments of this kind. For a copy of this or any of my parliamentary speeches please contact my office. I recently travelled to Groote Eylandt with my colleagues to meet with local residents and listen to their ideas for the Territory’s future. It was a rewarding trip and demonstrated that the issues people are facing in the urban areas exist and are oſten amplified in remote regions. I will be hosng a mobile office at the Nightcliff Seabreeze Fesval on Saturday 2nd May and will hold my annual Family Fun Day on Saturday 13th June. I look forward to catching up. ANTISOCIAL BEHAVIOURAntisocial behaviour continues to be a concern in our community. Many people in the Nightcliff electorate are experiencing or witnessing unacceptable incidents of anti-social behaviour, including violence. Local businesses are struggling with the impact of public drunkenness which affects patronage and employers themselves who can find themselves in threatening situations.

I will continue to lobby to ensure the government acknowledges this increasing issue, properly resources the police and puts policies in place so the community can feel safe once again.” I regularly meet with Police to raise these issues who are trying to do their best with the limited resources provided. I have also met with the local council to identify a number of methods to discourage the loitering and antisocial behaviour in the area.

I have written to the Chief Minister requesting that the CLP government commit to their election promise and provide the funds in the 2015/16 Budget to re-open the Nightcliff Police Station and make it a 24 hour Police Station as they promised. I have also requested that funds be allocated for the installations of CCTV cameras in the Nightcliff Business Village.

It is important that if you have any safety concerns or information that you contact police by calling 131 444. Please feel free to also contact my office to discuss any issues so we can work together to help address this ongoing issue.
