The Moto X Rider’s life We all know what we like about our bikes.

Do you know were all of this came from?

With this description about our subculture you

could really feel this as some personal story.

Or you could think we know nothing.

Just read it, page 4

We actually made Street Bike Tommy, the

known star from Nitro Circus show, (yes, the

fat one that always get humiliated) to read the

classic book we probably did not pay atten-

tion to in high school. He read the whole thing

and actually liked it. He liked it so much that

he wrote a review and a comparison between

the story and the bikers life.

All of this on pages 6 and 7.

Page 4: Nasty Clutch

The biker’s life is a congregation of people whose primary interest and activities involve mo-

torcycles. All of us know this.

The subculture emerged from the typical motorcycle clubs, which have existed ever since

bikes were made. The people that belonged to these groups shared this common passion;

bikes. Groups like this were formed all over the

world, but the most known and relevant is the Ameri-

can Motorcyclist Association most known as AMA from

United States, which is the organization in charge of

executing the most important races on different types

of bikes.

Usually the biker’s subculture is associated

badly with vandalism and outlaw gangs, because of the way they dress, drive, behave and

reject the mainstream society basic rules like studying. Due to this, the biker urban tribe is

divided in different groups. Clubs dedicated to a particular brand, such as the Harley Owners

Group and the Honda Riders Club of America or most commonly by the way they ride, and if

they practice racing, the way they race.

We, Motocross riders are a very popular group from the biker’s subculture. People from our

group ride MX bikes or ATV’s who would like to race in important competitions such as the

AMA Supercross and AMA Motocross Championships. In addition, most of them also take part

of freestyle competitions.

This special group of people, in which most of this magazine is devoted to, is the craziest from all

the biker’s tribe, we live our day-by-day life performing every single stupidity imaginable. We put our life

in danger with reckless driving, by performing amazing tricks and huge jumps for one very simple reason,

to enjoy and have fun by doing what we love the most. That’s some life.

Normally, the requirements you need to join this subculture, are very simple: a bike (dirt bike if

possible), and the guts to execute some dangerous moves with your bike.

You would probably have seen these pro and amateur freestyle motocross riders, which happen to

be great friends: Travis Pastrana, Andy Bell, Jim DeChamp and others, that have decided to show their lives

to the world, through an American television series called Nitro Circus. This show features Travis and his

friends travelling around the world riding dirtbikes, base jumping, and performing unbelievable stunts.

This TV show represent most of the freestyle life-dedicated motocross riders, people like us who

love beating their fear and living adrenaline who also show their need of freedom, which we normally com-

plement it with a great addiction to energetic drinks such as Red Bull and Monster Energy.

Probably some people do not agree with us when we say this is a subculture. All though we are

much more materialistic than the common urban-tribe, and we actually follow most of the mainstream

values, I could say proudly that we are not interested in politics or studying prestigious careers, be-

cause all of our attention is focused on having fun the way we love to.

All of this is purely a product from the great passion for bikes and mechanics.

We all love motorcycles. We all love to do fun stuff with our motorcycles. But

where did all came from? If you think you’re a true motocross rider you must

know the beginning of the story.

Page 5: Nasty Clutch

Travis will return to the X games 2010 after last years Moto X Best

Trick Event were he attempted to perform a rodeo 720 also known as TP7.

He crashed on his first attempt and withdraws from his second attempt after

experiencing blurred vision.

Travis Pastrana was born on October 8, 1983 in Annapolis, Maryland.

He has been one of the top motor sports competitors over the past few

years.

Travis Pastrana has won many X Games medals competing in several

different motorcycle events. At the X Games, Pastrana has competed in mo-

tocross, Freestyle, Motocross, and Supercross.

In 1999 Pastrana wins the first ever MotoX Freestyle event at the X-

Games. He also scores the highest ever run of 99.00 points, record still

stands to be beaten. He repeated this feat until 2004, when he tried a 50 ft

360, but he crashed. Then he won gold medal in 2005 and 2006, he was the

first ones to perform a Double Backflip in competition, scoring a 98.60, the

highest score in the Best Trick competition at X Games.

After Travis accomplished the double Backflip, he said he would nev-

er come back to this competition, But his friend and pro BMX rider; Dave

Mirra convinced him he could accomplish the rodeo 720 trick.

Pastrana’s motor skills aren’t limited to the 2-wheel type, he excels

at Rally Racing and has America’s Rally Championship 3 consecutive times

(2006, 2007 and 2008) as well as various WRC Events where he has shown

promise.

During 2010 New year, Pastrana's jump 250 feet of water occurred at

Red Bull's New Years, No Limits series, setting a new longest car jump rec-

ord.

Now a days he runs his own television series, the “Nitro Circus” that fea-

tures Travis and his friends travelling around the world riding dirtbikes,

base jumping, performing reckless stunts or doing any other stupidity.

Page 6: Nasty Clutch

The story begins just after a plane crash. We are introduced Ralph and Piggy, Two of the English schoolboys who

have survived the crash and find themselves on a desert island without any adults.

A perfect scene for a teen year old boy, wouldn’t it be great to be on an island with your friends and with no author-

ities bothering you or saying what to do?

Without the usual authority figures to direct the boys, they must be able to survive by their own means. A boy called

Ralph takes on a leadership position, he knows little more than the others, but he is definitely much more mature

that most of the little kids with him. He manages to gather them in one place and is voted leader. At his side is the

compassionate, clever, but fatally clumsy Piggy, a nicely rendered character who serves as Ralph’s conscience. I

liked piggy a lot, because I can empathise with him, not only because he is very fat and loose like me, but also be-

cause even if he has very good ideas, but nobody takes them into account.

Ralph's election is contested by Jack, a cool customer with his own squadron of followers, a former choir under his

leadership. Jack would be the antagonist from the story, because he is always challenging Ralph’s decisions and

actions, doing whatever he wants going against the rules and society. I like Jack’s role, because riders are very sim-

ilar to Jack, mainly because we love to go against the rules and also to do whatever we want, so that why I like the

role jack has through out the book.

The first few days every thing was done as planned; some shelters were built, the fire was kept going by the choir-

boys under Jack’s command. This civilized and organized society soon

began to decay due to the few sensible efforts; such as keeping a fire

burning at all times were left in background, after all, they are just young

boys, so most of their plans endured for very few hours

In the meantime, Jack grows bored, restless, and resentful about Ralph's

superior role within the tribe. Due to this, he decides to splits off from the

main group. From here on out, nearly the entire book consists of the de-

scent of Jack's tribe into base brutality. As Jack successfully recruits more

boys, Ralph becomes more isolated. Then, Jack's tribe kills Piggy and the

Conch is smashed into million little pieces; this is a very symbolic mo-

ment, signalling the end of rational thought and civilized behaviour

Street Bike Tommy read Lord of the Flies

and actually wrote a review and a com-

ment about it.

What happens when you make this TV ridiculed guy read the book we all have

must read sometime? Surprisingly, he liked it very much. This is what he wrote

about it.

Page 7: Nasty Clutch

Here he makes an

interesting comparison.

What would happen if we

were the characters in the

story?

-Well, this is the very first time I write something about a book, but here it goes:

I think that if we get lost into a wild island in the middle of the ocean, theres going to be a huge

mess. Look at us, we are not organized nor ordered people. I can say that with trust and without

shame, because we live to have fun. Now that’s the part that won’t be useful in this adventure.

Just imagine it, we will be messing around the island doing fun stuff like jumping from the high-

est rock to the water, or trying to invent something that can fulfil our necessity of speed.

When we would be hungry, we will eat. No problems. I really do not think someone in our type

of culture would turn into Jack. It is not in our nature to be savages and receive orders from oth-

er with no apparent reason.

But actually all this great stuff that I’m telling you, is missing the most important part of the

book. The boys that were dropped in the island didn’t know each other. If I alone would get

lost in an island with all these people I don’t know… I can’t imagine what the hell could happen.

Just some boys with a top age of 14 lived a very tragical corruption by the power received by

Jack, who becomes something like a dictator, that beats up boys with no apparent reason and

kills other children too. Imagine with some group of adults.

We motocrossers are crazy people, we love to risk our lives but actually we do not like risking

other’s, and we know how to recognize people who want to do good, like Ralph and Piggy.

Savagery is a part of our lifestyle, but not in a bad way, just in a fun way were the only one that

have risks is yourself, and superficially we are actually very dependent on civilization.

Let’s never forget where our bikes came from.

-D’you think I went good in my review?
