Approach Assumes that the story being created and told is
not predefined manually but created collaboratively by the users

Story Creation Application
NLE – SIG 4th November 2004
Director Agent Is a narrative agent (follows Dautenhahn’s definition of a
Type IV narrative agent)
Uses its memory to interact with the story characters and respond with support and guidance directives to the children.
Collects and stores the information from the stories, and organises such information in accordance with the different perspectives of the different dramatis personae.

Story Structures
Story = initial story situation + variable story schema
Initial Story Situation: the situation in which the characters and their inter-relations are introduced, the story is situated in terms of temporal and spatial localisation, the initial positioning of the characters, and the definition of the goal of the story
Variable Story Schema: a sequence of functions

Director Agent’s Functionalities To update the internal world model and investigate
the possibility of generating an episode.
To check whether the current plot point has been achieved
To check the need to trigger a reflection event
To check the need to introduce a new story entity (dramatis personae or object)

“Client” Application: Teatrix
Teatrix is a collaborative virtual environment for story creation, which aims to provide effective support for young children developing:
• their notions of narrative, through the dramatization of several situations;
• and, their ability to take a 2nd and 3rd person perspective across the experience of a wide range of situations.
