    He who gave me eyes to see is my lord, birth after bir th. He made divineknowledge shine in my heart. From him has come prema-bhakti, which destroysignorance. The Vedic scriptures sing of his character.

    I shall eternally engage in the nine-fold process of devotional service, which isthe essential message of Srzmad-Bhagavatam, and I shall not worship thedemigods. 0 brother, I say to you: Devotional service is the most exalted kind ofworship.

    Making the words of the guru, sadhus, and sastras one with my heart, Iconstantly float and swim in the ocean of pure love. I am di f ferent from thekarmzs and jnams, who have no devotion for Krsna. Narottama speaks the truth.

    Srila Rupa Gosvami Prabhupada has said (Bhakti-rasamrta-sindhu 1.1.11):

    "Uttama bhakti, or unalloyed devotion unto the Supreme Personality ofGodhead, Sri Krsna, involves the rendering of devotional service in a way that isfavorable to the Lord. This devotional service should be free from anyextraneous motive and devoid of frui t ive karma, impersonal jnana and all otherselfish desires."'

  • Devotedly follow the path of the great devotees in the past. Properly usingyour body and mind, don t neglect either the regulative devotional practices orthe rememberance of the Lord's pastimes.

    kebala bhakata sa-ngaprema ka-tha ra-sa ra-ngakarmi j nani parihari' dure

    Always reject the company of the impious. Give up attraction to non-devotional songs. Leave the karmis and jnanis far away. Only associate with thedevotees. Take pleasure in hearing the nectar descriptions of pure love forKrsna. Become flooded by the nectar of the narrations of the Lord's pastimes inVraja.

    Putting the yogzs, svamzs, karmis, jnani s, demigod-worshipers, and meditatorsfar away, and rejecting the torments that are frui t ive work, ordinary rel ig ion,and the other yogas, worship Lord Giridhari.

    The struggle to travel to various holy pi lgr image places is simply the mind 'smistake, because to make spiri tual advancement all one actually needs is thelotus feet of Lord Govinda. Abandoning pr ide and envy, and with f irm fa ith inyour heart, always worship Lord Govinda wi thout deviat ion.

    See the devotees of Lord Krsna, associate with the devotees of Lord Krsna.Faithfully engage in the nine-fold process of devotional service, which includes

  • hearing about the Lord, chanting His glor ies, worshiping Him, of fer ingobeisances to Him, and remembering Him. Fol lowing these activit ies enlightensthe devotees with spir i tual knowledge.

    I shall use these senses to serve Lord Govinda, and I shall decl ine to worshipthe various demigods and demigoddesses. I shall only speak about puredevotional service. The numberless different phi losophies and conceptions ofl ife are all products of the condit ioned soul s pride. Trying to understand thembrings no real benefit but only a pain wi thin the mind .

    dehe baise ripu gana-j ateka indriya gan-a

    suni2e na suna kanajani2e najane pranakeha kara badhya nahi haya

    drdhaite na pare niscaya

    The insubordinate senses are like enemies that l ive within the body. Tell theear to hear and it may rebel, refusing to hear. Tell the mind to understand aparticular point, or become firm in a certain way, and it may very well disobey.

    kama krodha moha 2obhamada matsarj a dambha saha-sthane sthane nijukta kariba

    anayase gobinda bhajibaananda kari' hrdayaripu kari/ paraj aya

    I shall fight with lust, anger, bewilderment, greed, madness, envy and pride.Defeating them, I wil l become bl issful at heart, and I wil l easily become able toworship Lord Govinda.

    kama krsna karmarp-anekrodha bhakta dwesis j-ane -

    moha ista 2ab2ha bi-nemad-a krsna guna ga-ne -2obha sadhu sange ha-ri katha -

    nij ukta kariba j atha tatha

    Lust I will engage in offering the fruits of my work to Lord Krsna. Anger I wi l ldirect towards the enemies of the devotees. Greed I wil l engage by being greedyto hear the topics of Lord Hari in the association of the saintly devotees.Bewilderment wil l be manifested because I cannot immediately attain my

  • worshipable Lord. Madness will be there when I madly glor ify thetranscendental attributes of Lord Krsna. In this way I wi l l engage each of thesein the service of Lord Krsna.

    anyatha swatantra kamaanrthadi jara dhama

    kiba ba karite parekama kr-odha sadhakerebhakti pa-tha sada deya bhanga

    j adi haya sadhu ja-nara sanga

    If lust is not control led, then it becomes the breeding ground for a host ofvices and checks one's advancement on the path of devotional service. However,i f one stays in the association of the saintly devotees, then that association wil lcarry him beyond the inf luence of lust, anger, and their fr iends.

    krodha ba na kare kibakrodha tyag-a sada diba

    chaya ripu sada hinakariba manera adhinalobha moha ei ta' kathana

    krsnacandra kariya smarana

    I shall not become angry. I shall renounce anger. I shall become free from mysix enemies, such as greed and bewilderment. I shall control my mind, andalways remember Lord Krsnacandra.

    apani palabe sabasuniya gobinda rabasimha raba j -ena kari gana-

    j ara haya ekanta bhaj anasakala vipatti jabe mahananda sukha pabe

    When lust and his fr iends hear the word Govinda" they immediately begin toflee, as a herd of elephants flees when it hears a lion's roar. If one engages insingle-pointed devotional service to Lord Krsna, then the worshiper attainstranscendental bliss, and all kinds of calamit ies flee from him.

    sakala santapajabeparananda sukha pabeprema bhakti pa-rama karana-

    Don t sin. Take no interest in prof it , adoration, and dist inct ion. Insteadmeditate on the lotus feet of Lord Govinda. In this way all suffer ings wil l go faraway, and transcendental bliss and pure love for Lord Krsna wil l spontaneously

    asat sa-nga kutinatichada anya paripati

    apana apana sthanepiriti sabai tanebhakti pa-the padaye bigati

    anya debe na hariha rati

    Give up the association of the impious non-devotees. Give up the tendency tof ind fault in others. Don t fol low any spir i tual path other than devotionalservice. Don't worship the demigods. If one takes to the worship of thedemigods, he becomes deviated from the path of devotional service.

    apana bhajana pan-thataha habe anurata

    naisthika bhaj ana eitomare kahi2a bhaiista deva -stha-ne 2$2a -gan-e

    hanuman tahate pramana

    0 brother, please become attached to your worshipable Lord alone. Serve Himwithout deviation and sing the glories of His pastimes. I wil l now quote thewords of Hanuman, who demonstrates this exclusive devotion to one'sworshipable Deity. Hanuman said:

    tathapi mama sarvasvamramah kama2a 2ocana-h

    Although He is not di f ferent from Lord Narayana, lotus-eyed Lord Rama aloneis the be-all and end-all of my life.

    j ugala bhaj aye j arapremanande bhase tarasadhu sadhu bale anuksana

    tandera nichani tri bhubana-

    If one attains the planets of the demigods or Pitas and enjoys celestialhappiness there, then I congratulate him, saying: well done, well done.However, I myself would never str ive to attain such a thing. For myself I amcontent simply to worship the Div ine Couple and swim and f loat in the bl iss ofpure love for Them. This pure love is the most valuable object in the threeworlds.

    Although I have taken great trouble to try to enjoy the miserable sense-gratification available in this wor ld, I shall now give it up. I shall now reside inVraja, serve Lord Govinda, hear and chant the topics of Lord Krsna, chant theholy names of Lord Krsna, and at every moment rel ish the transcendentalmellows of devotional service in the association of the residents of Vraja.

    narottama dasa bo2epadinu asat bho2-esada kal-a haiya nirbhaya

    I shall always aspire to serve the Lord, and great faith in the Lord wil l becomemanifested in my mind. In this way I shall remain always fearless in allsituations. Narottama dasa says: Somehow or other I have accepted the role of anon-devotee. 0 my master, 0 great soul, please deliver me.

    I shall now describe the path of spontaneous love for Krsna, which is glor i f iedby the exalted devotees and the Vedic l i teratures. By traversing this path ofspontaneous love one becomes a follower of the gopzs and attains the perfectspiritual body of a l iberated soul.

    I shall now describe the most important of Srimatz Radharanz s gopz-friends.Lalita, Visakha, Sucitra, Campakalata, Rangadevi, Sudevi, Tungavidya, andIndulekha, are the eight most important gopz-friends of Srimatz Radharanz. Herother gopz-friends are divided into groups; the narma-sakhzs, priya-sakhzs, andprestha-sakhzs. All these gopzs constantly render loving service to SrimatiRadharanz.

    I am the follower of all these gopzs. I shall serve them with great love. I wi l lcompletely understand their orders, even when couched in casual hints orgestures.     Glory, glory to She who is named Radha, whose home is Vrndavana, and whois Lord Krsna's treasury ofb l issful past imes! Alas, destiny has cheated me, formy ears have not heard Radha's glories.

    tanra bhakta sang-e sadarasa 2i2a -prem-a kath-a

    ihate bimukhaj eitara kabhu siddhi naije kare se paya ghanasyama

    nahi j ena suni tara nama

    A person who, in the company of the devotees, again and again hears thestories of the pure love in the rasa-dance pastimes will attain Lord Krsna, who isdark as a monsoon cloud. A person averse to hearing these pastimes will neverattain perfection. I refuse to hear the name of such an offender.

    krsna nama -gane b-hai radhi ka carana -pai

    sanksepe kahila kathaghucaha manera byatharadha nama -gane k-rsnacandra

    duhkha maya a-nya katha -dwand-wa

    0 brother, by chanting Krsna's name I wil l at tain Radha, and by chantingRadha's name I will attain Krsna. Now I have briefly told you how to chase allsufferings from your heart. What contradicts my words wil l br ing only pain .

    ahankara abhimanaasat sanga as-aj jnana -

    kara atma nibedana-deha geha par-ij ana-guru bakya pa-rama mahattwa

    chadi' bhaj a guru pada pa-dma-

    Abandon false-ego, pride, company with material ists, and useless materialknowledge, and worship the lotus feet of your spir i tual master. Offer yourhome, friends, relatives, body and self to him. His words are supreme.

    sri k-rsna c-aitanyadebanirabadhi tanre seba

    sri b-raj a r-aj a n-andanaradhika j ibana d-hanaprema k-alpa ta-ru b-ara d-ata

    aparupa ei saba katha

    Always serve Sri Krsna Caitanyadeva, who is a kalpa-vrksa tree giving awaythe treasure of pure love. He is Lord Krsna Himself, the pr ince of Vraja and thel ife of Srimatz Radharanz. Talk about Him is ful l of wonder .

    nabadwipe abatari radha bha-be angikari

    tina bancha abhilasi saci gar-bhe parakasitanra kanti angera bhusana

    sange lana parisada gan-a

    Accepting the loving emotions of Sri Radha, and accepting Her bodily luster asthe ornament of His l imbs, Lord Krsna descended to Navadvipa. Desiring toattain three things, He appeared in Saci s womb. He attained His desires in thecompany of His devotees.

    Appearing in a fair-complexioned form, He made a great monsoon of spir i tuallove. In this way He attained His three desires. Why did Lord Krsna, the masterof Radha, cry again and again> Only the devotees can know.

    gopane sadhile siddhisadhana nabadha bhakti

    kari hari sankirta-nasadai bibhola manaprarthana kariba dainye sada

    ista labha bi-nu saba badha

    In private I wil l pract ice the nine kinds of devotional service and in this way Iw ill attain perfection. I wil l a lways humbly pray for that. In public I w i l lperform Hari-sankirtana, my heart overcome with love. Any activity that doesnot lead to My worshipable Lord is an obstacle.

    samsara batoj arekama phanse ba-ndhi ' mare

  • phukari' kahaye haridasa

    tabe habe bipada binasakarahabhakata s-angaprema k-atha r-asa r-anga

    When arrested by the highwaymen of material i l lusion, bound about the neckwith ropes of lust, and about to take his last breath, the devotee of Lord Haricalls out for the Lord's help and is saved. 0 devotees, call out in this way,glorifying the nectar topics of pure love for Krsna. Then the calamity of repeatedbirth and death wil l come to an end.

    stri put-ra bandhabaj atamari j abe sata sata

    muni se bisaye hatana bhajinu hari pad-aapanake hao sabadhana

    mora ara nahi paritrana

    Hundreds and hundreds of women, chi ldren, and other relatives wil l somedaydie. Take care of yourself. I, who am very fal len, am already ki l led by sensegratification. I would not worship Lord Hari s feet. Now I have no protection.

    ramacandra kabiraj asei sange mora kaj a

    j adi hayaj anma punahtanra sanga hayaj enatanra sanga binu saba sunya

    abe haya narottama dhanya

    I desire the association of Ramcandra Kaviraja. Without his company theentire world is a desert. If I must take birth again, I would feel myself fortunateto have his association.

    apana bhajana kathan-a kahibajatha tatha

    na kariha keha rosana laiha mora dosaihate haio sabadhana

    pranamaha bhaktera carana

    I will not describe the specific devotional activit ies of each devotee. Performyour devotional service carefully. Don't become angry. Don't f ind fault wi thothers. Offer obeisances to the devotees' feet.
