PTI Minor blast on railway track in Bihar PATNA: A major accident was averted when a low intensity bomb exploded on the railway track in Bihar’s Buxar district, a railway official said. The blast took place when the Varanasi-Sealdah Upper India Express was crossing between Bux- ar and Baruna station around 12.05 pm, the official added. “The driver of the train stopped after he heard a loud noise,” spokesperson of the East Central Railway A K Rajak told IANS. He said no one was injured in the blast. As a precaution, the train was halted till 2.15 pm, Rajak said. Operations resumed after the tracks were repaired. Asked if the bomb was planted or hurled on the railway track, Rajak said, “A few passengers said that the bomb was hurled on the track.” An inquiry has been ordered by the Railways, he said. IANS One killed, 30 injured as bus overturns in MP BHOPAL: One person was killed and 30 others were injured after the driver lost control over his speeding bus and the public carrier overturned in Narsinghpur district of Madhya Pradesh. Of the 30per- sons injured, two are in a critical condi- tion, said a police official. “The accident occurred around 9 a.m. The private bus was going from Saikheda to Pandhurna. The driver ran away,” the police official told IANS. According to the passengers, the driver was driving the bus at a high speed and lost control over it. The bus overturned when the driver suddenly slammed on the breaks. IANS Court grants bail to DCW chief Maliwal NEW DELHI: A Delhi court on Monday granted bail to DCW chief Swati Maliwal in a case of alleged irregularities in ap- pointments to the women’s rights panel. Special Judge Hemani Malhotra granted the bail to the Delhi Commission for Women chief after asking her to furnish a personal and surety bond of Rs 20,000. While granting bail, the court observed that the case was based on documentary evidence. Maliwal appeared before the court in pursuance of summons issued in January. The court has listed the matter for April 6 for further hearing. Taking cognizance of the chargesheet filed by the Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB), Mal- hotra on January 18 issued the summons to Maliwal. Maliwal was charged under the Prevention of Corruption Act. The ACB action followed a complaint filed by Maliwal’s predecessor Barkha Singh Shukla of the Congress. Chief Secretary S Kshatri- ya has conveyed to the Centre in a meeting held with Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation Sec- retary Parameshwaran Iyer here that the state is “on track to achieve this goal”. He added that the state has a strong third party verification system for ODF declarations with three levels of confirma- tion. Kshatriya said that be- sides ODF, the state was aiming to include hand washing, menstrual hy- giene, community toilets, etc, as part of the Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM) im- plementation in the state. For this, multiple clean- liness campaigns like clean offices, clean gram panchayats, clean schools and others were also un- derway in the state, he pointed out. Iyer, on his part, assured of the Centre’s full support in these initiatives to the Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis-led government in the state. Under the Zilla Swachh Bharat Prerak initiative, a Prerak would be provided at district-levels to sup- port the SBM activities by the ministry in associa- tion with the Tata Trusts, he said. MUMBAIIn a significant milestone, Maharashtra will be de-clared an Open Defecation Free (ODF) state by March, a top official said here on Monday.

Chief Secretary S Kshatri-ya has conveyed to the Centre in a meeting held with Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation Sec-retary Parameshwaran Iyer here that the state is “on track to achieve this goal”.

He added that the state has a strong third party verification system for ODF declarations with three levels of confirma-tion.

Kshatriya said that be-sides ODF, the state was aiming to include hand washing, menstrual hy-giene, community toilets, etc, as part of the Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM) im-plementation in the state.

For this, multiple clean-liness campaigns like clean offices, clean gram panchayats, clean schools and others were also un-derway in the state, he pointed out.

Iyer, on his part, assured of the Centre’s full support in these initiatives to the Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis-led government in the state.

Under the Zilla Swachh Bharat Prerak initiative, a Prerak would be provided at district-levels to sup-port the SBM activities by the ministry in associa-tion with the Tata Trusts, he said.

Making a detailed pres-entation to the top brass of all PSUs in the western region on the issue, Iyer urged them to contrib-ute to the SBM at various levels, train workers and management trainees as sanitation champions and agents of change.
