THE SCHOOL FOR LIFE AT TIFERET YESHUA: --WHY YOU

MIGHT WANT TO SKIP CLASS THIS TERM—AND FOREVER.

By the NARWatch Team

Schoofil For Life is an Inner Healing/Deliverance course run by Adriana Rosenzvaig of Women Without Wafilfils under the auspices of restored apostle Asher Intrater’s Tiferet Yeshua congregation, which comes under the joint apostleship of himself, apostle Eitan Shishkof and senior apostle Daniel Juster.

‘Rosenzvaig and her husband Raul made afiliyah from Argentina in 1989. Teir congregation in Buenos Aires under Claudio Freidzon sent them out to help build up the Body of Messiah here. Among other exciting projects the Rosenzvaigs also worked with David and Karen Davis at the Carmel congregation in Haifa. . . . Rosenzvaig trained extensively in wholeness and inner healing, including at Efilijah House (EH). EH was founded by Americans John and Paula Sandford 2 in 1975 and has since grown to become an international ministry with “houses” in countries as diverse as Australia, Japan, Austria and Guam.’ 3

It is well established,4 that the techniques and practices of the “Inner Healing” taught by Elijah House and the Sanfords have their root not in the Word of God, but the world of witchcraf and shamanism and are deeply occultic.

‘Much of the credit for bringing these occult methodologies [of inner healing] into Christianity must go to Agnes Sanford, who has probably infuenced the church, and particularly charismatics, as much as any woman of this century. John and Paula Sandford, who are among today’s leading “inner healing” teachers, have said of Agnes Sanford that she was “for afilfil of us the forerunner in the feld of inner healing by prayer, [and] she was also our own frst mentor in the Lord, our friend and advisor”’ 5

Agnes Sandford-Occultist and Pantheist“Mrs. Sanford taught that the principles of prayer and healing are universal--that is, they are included in all religions, yet transcend all religions.”

‘In her books, which are so bfilatantfily pagan as to be astonish-ing, Agnes Sanford makes no distinction between truth and error; anything that seems to tap into what she calls “ this fow of energy,” this “ high voltage of God’s creativity,” is

acceptable. Saying that “we are part of God .. .He’s in nature and He is nature,” and calling Him that “primal Energy” and Jesus “that most profound of psychiatrists,” Sanford taught that we can literally create virtues in other people by the power of our minds, heafil people at a distance, and even forgive their sins through visuafilization.’ 6

‘Sanford gives her approval both to “the savage dancing in the jungle .. .primitive people who create an atmosphere of faith by war paint and feathers” . . . she fnds no faufilt with paganism or Christian Science, which others are perfectly free to follow as far as she is concerned, Mrs. Sanford explains that personafil preference [note: not the Scriptures!] has led her to adopt a diferent technique, which she introduced into the church as the key element in what became known as inner heafiling or heafiling of the memories.’ 7

‘Agnes Sanford was a universalist and the founder of the spiritual feld of healing of memories that began in the 40’s. Her book “Te Healing Light” was frst published in 1947. Sanford taught that the principles of both prayer and healing are included in all religions, yet transcend all religions. She believed there is a spirituafil energy, that is greater than the information contained in the Bibfile, this power is what she claimed to use. As with all mystically incline seekers, her experience shaped her theology. Her heafiling was done through meditation, visuafilization, imagination and positive confession. She said that if she spilled hot oil on her hand in the kitchen, she would positively confess: “I’m boss inside of me. And what I say goes. I say that my skin shall not be afected by that boiling fat, and that’s all there is to it. I see my skin well, perfect and whole, and I say it’s to be so’ (Te Heafiling Light, p. 65).

Whifile Kenneth Hagin is atributed to be the Father of this wayward reafility, she can be cafilfiled the mother. Sanford taught that everything is a mater of thought vibrations which if "negative" make us ill, and if "positive" heal us. Indeed, "positive thought vibrations" projected upon sinners can even turn them into Christians. So her teaching was an rudimentary accompaniment of the word faith teaching of today. Yet she had a metaphysical basis that accompanied healing, "every cell in the body has a rudimentary mind and will hear your words."

‘Sanford's occultic teachings are ofen atributed to her pastor, Morton T. Kelsey, who studied at the C.G. Jung Institute near Zurich, Switzerland, and who became a Jungian psychologist. One cannot defne Sanford’s inner heafiling without Kefilsey who was an infuentiafil Episcopafilian priest who had communication with and guidance from the dead.’ (Kelsey, Christo, p. 39, 148-49; see also Kelsey, Aferfilife: Te Other Side of Dying.)

‘Kefilsey equated shamanistic psychic powers with the gifs of the Hofily Spirit (Supernaturafil, pp. 120-43), and said “Jesus was a man of power. He was greater than afilfil shamans.”’ 8

The Door Our Restored Apostles Left Open.It seems astonishing that a ‘restored’ apostle or prophet would so lack spiritual discernment as to let something blatantly occultic be practised in their congregation. However, history reveals that our restored apostles and prophets opened the door

to such practices a long time ago, and never repented of them, and this set a dangerous precedent for the rest of their ministry.

As far back as the early 1970’s, apostle Dan Juster was practising Inner-Healing techniques.

‘. . All around the room were manifestations. One screamed that they had a headache. Another said they felt like throwing up. We immediately divided the group into three smaller teams and began binding the evil spirits. Tis started an amazing series of mid-week meetings where we would gather to pray for deliverance. . . . God showed us that many problems were rooted in unforgiveness and painful memories . . . As we prayed in tongues, revelations would come which led us to repentance and forgiveness. Tis allowed the Lord to bring comfort, release, and healing. Later, this became known as the ministry of Inner Healing.’

In 1979 prophet Asher arrived on the scene and expanded the ‘Inner Healing’ work:

‘[Asher] gave himself to counselling, preaching, teaching, studying, and deliverance ministry. . . . During this time, we rented a house to be used for healing troubled, single men. Asher was put over this house to bring deliverance, . . . He became zealous to see the congregation in right order and submited to my authority in leadership.’ 9

Our Restored Apostles Dan & Asher:--The Mystic KeyWith this kind of track record, it is no surprise that our restored apostles and prophets fail miserably to discern the true nature of Inner Healing and Elijah house. However there is yet another reason: both Juster and Intrater are contempfilative advocates.

From references in their published material it is evident that they favour contemplative authors such as Catholic monk Brother Lawrence10 (author of Practice of the Presence of God) and mystic Dafilfilas Wifilfilard. Juster in particular, warmly endorses Willard, calling him ‘a wonderfufil and great exampfile . . . his books are pricefiless’ 11

And this is not mere lip-service; in his own devotional life prophet Asher uses shamanistic and contemplative visualisation techniques to efect changes in the physicafil reafilm, and exhorts others to do the same.

‘I try to make it a daily habit to meditate on Yeshua and on the cross. Trough that meditation we can receive inner strength and physicafil healing.’

‘By fofilfilowing through in your imagination the events of Yeshua's sufering and crucifxion, there is a spirituafil fow of filife that comes from Him and enters into your inner being. . . . During meditation on Yeshua and the cross, this issue of life fows from deep in His spirit to deep in your spirit.’

‘I try to meditate on Yeshua and the cross frst thing in the morning, last thing at night, and perhaps once during the day if I can grab a few moments to close my eyes and calm my

thoughts. Tere is a connection in the spirit where your imagination touches Yeshua on the cross that refileases the fow of His filife.’ 12

‘Some people run from conference to conference, trying to get an impartation of the fre of God. Yet there is a direct, personal access to the fre of God that is available to us at any time. All we have to do is close our physical eyes, meditate on the Scriptures describing the fre in the eyes of Yeshua, imagining Him looking into our eyes, face to face; that spiritual fame will begin to fow from His soufil into ours.’

Te eyes are located in the centre of the face, halfway from the chin to the crown of the head. As we meditate on His shining face, we are transformed into the same image (II Corinthians 3:18). Tis spiritual transformation by meditating on the glory of God in the face of Yeshua is a key to understanding the priestly blessing . . . .Try to spend time every day meditating on the fre in the eyes of Yeshua. May that beautiful spiritual fre of passion and purity be kindled in your soul!’ 13

When reading the Scriptures or any other book, our minds naturally construct a hasty mental picture of what we are reading about. Tis is perfectly normal and is neither sinful nor dangerous. Our brain is merely processing the data that we are reading. If someone mentions the word ‘dog’, unbidden a mental image of a dog will pop into our head; or sometimes we have ‘mental conversations’ when we are pondering something and our minds naturally picture the situation, but these images are not the very things themselves, and have no power to either create or destroy. Intrater however, is intentionafilfily visualising the Lord for the express purpose of drawing spiritual power from the image in a way that actually efects mental, spiritual and even physical changes in his own body! He is clearly interacting with his image as if it were the Lord Himself, because he states that through visualisation he can touch the source of fre, the very soul and heart of Jesus Himself through this type of meditation.

“John saw fre in Yeshua's eyes. Te eye contains a hole in the middle - the pupil, which is like the aperture in a camera. It acts like a window. Te source of fre is not the eye of Yeshua, but His heart. He has a fre burning deep inside His soul (Luke 12:49) and desires for it to be kindled in each of us.

When we filook in the eyes of Yeshua, the fre that is in His soufil fows out of Him, through our eyes, into our soufil. Tis energy transfer does not invofilve the physicafil eye, but the eye of the spirit (Ephesians 1:18).

Tis is exactly what Catholic mystics have practised for centuries:

“Visualization or imaginative prayer is becoming popular throughout evangelicalism. Jesuit priest Anthony de Mello calls it "fantasy prayer" and says that many of the Catholic saints practised it (Sadhana: A Way to God, pp. 79, 82, 93). Francis of Assisi imagined taking Jesus down from the cross; Anthony of Padua imagined holding the baby Jesus in his arms and talking with him; Teresa of Avila imagined herself with Jesus in His agony in the garden. . . . . Tis type of thing is an integral part of the spiritual exercises of Ignatius of Loyola. Te practitioner is instructed to walk

Intrater claims ‘there is a connection in the spirit where your imagination touches

Yeshua on the cross that releases the flow of His life’

Intrater is purposefully visualising the Lord to

draw spiritual power from the image and effect a

physical healing

into biblical and extra-biblical historical scenes through the imagination and bring the scene to life by applying all fve senses, seeing the events, hearing what people are saying, smelling things, and touching things--all within the realm of pure imagination. He is even to put himself into the scene, talking to the people and serving them. Ignatius encourages practitioners, for example, to imagine themselves present at Jesus' birth and crucifxion.” 14

When Intrater visualises his ‘Jesus’, some form of spiritual transaction must be occurring: tangible energy is being released and transferred when he makes contact with the spiritual realm, in what he calls a connection in the spirit or seeing with the eye of the spirit. If you think that this sounds rather like a New Age or spiritist technique you would be right, as a further look at Agnes Sanford’s material confrms:

‘In order to fll ourselves with His whole Being, let us think of Him, imagining His presence, seeing Him with the eyes of the mind, trying to love Him with the heart. Let us beseech Him to come and dwell within us. Let us ask Him to enter into our spirits and fll us with His own consciousness of the Fatherhood of God; to enter into our minds and think within us His own thoughts; to enter into our hearts and feel through us His own love, directing it to those who need it most; to enter into our bodies and build them up according to the patern of His perfect holiness, making us more and more ft channels for the infow and outfow of His life. Above all if we really want to love Him and feel His love for us, let us kneel before His Cross, dare to contemplate His suferings thereon and thank Him for His inestimable gif to us. Let us then thank Him for the great gif of his own life. Let us dwell upon Him and immerse ourselves in Him until the reality of His being flls us and foods us with power. As we do this, our healings become free and easy and spontaneous, for we know that we are doing nothing at all. Te great Friend of man is doing His own works through us. His angels and spiritual messengers are also working through us, and it is ofen given to us to be conscious of their cooperation and support.

Te spirits of those for whom we have prayed on earth are working through us, for the thought-paths worn from mind to mind by

prayer have held over the edge of death. Perceiving this with an inner certainty we know that there is no death. Tere is now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus. Being no condemnation there can be no severance of power, and that stream of creativity that fowed through Jesus Christ, through Peter and James and John, through Paul and Francis of Assisi and bishops and priests and the praying souls of all ages, through our friends in the larger life and our friends in the fesh, is fowing through our small, atentive selves and making a stream of power that nothing can withstand. As we pray for His indwelling and for the cooperation of His saints, we become aware of an inrush of power. Some of us feel an actual current of life entering into the center of the body and rising through the spine. So forceful is this vibration or stream of life that we are forced to keep the spine erect and the breathing light and even. For a litle time we cannot speak. We are so flled with the fullness of Christ that there is within no room for words.’ 15

14 htps://www.wayofife.org/database/visuafilization.htmfil15 Agnes Sanford Te Healing Light p.153 available from here.

Te similarities between Intrater’s technique for seeing with the ‘eyes of the spirit’ and the blatant spiritism of Sanford are quite obvious and deeply disturbing. I can not overstate how perilous such a practice is; it could result in terrible harm to our spiritual well-being from the Enemy of our souls. It also fings the gates wide to terrible spiritual deception:

‘For those who make contact with “Jesus” in this manner, we can only warn that there is no biblical support for the idea that the real Jesus would appear to them on that basis. In fact it is all to the contrary. Numerous places in the Bible, such as Deuteronomy 18, make it clear that all occult practices are absolutely forbidden to the people of God.’ 16

Notwithstanding the occult nature of what our restored apostle and prophet Asher Intrater is promoting, there is also the fact that interacting with an image in this manner,

even if we label it ‘Jesus’,--is a terrible breach of the Scriptural prohibitions against worship of images. I do not see how we can regard what Intrater is advocating as anything other than idofilatrous.

Because of the overtly pagan origins of these Inner Healing teachings and the clear evidence of the same spiritual adultery being practised by the restored prophets and apostles who are promoting it in Tiferet Yeshua; I can only exhort any believer who is invited to stay well away, and warn others as they can.

Litle children, keep yourselves from idols. Amen. (1 Jn. 5:21)

Flee from idolatry . . . You are not able to drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons. You are not able to share the table of the Lord and the table of demons. Or are we atempting to provoke the Lord to jealousy? We are not stronger than he is, are we? (1 Cor. 10:15-22)

Need we say more?

Dallas WillardBelieved that Contemplative practices stronger than scriptural means of grace.

"Indeed, solitude and silence are powerfufil means to grace. Bibfile study, prayer and church atendance, among the most commonly prescribed activities in Christian circles, generally have filitfile efect for soul transformation, as is obvious to any observer. If all the people doing them were transformed to health and righteousness by it, the world would be vastly changed.” 17

Mystical a uthors recommended by Dallas Willard: Richard Foster, Evelyn Underhill, Brother Lawrence, Henri Nouwen, Madam Guyon, Jan Johnson, Ignatius of Loyola, Agnes Sanford, Teresa of Avila, George Fox.

Concerns about Willard’s mystical and New Age type emphases abound on the Net; of which this is typical:

‘Contemplative/Centring Prayer [which Willard promotes] afilways, among other things, eventually leads its practitioners to a denial of the Reformation and the acceptance of the apostate Roman Catholicism as a viable form of Christianity. Because the truth is that through their CSM [Contemplative Spirituality and Mysticism] in actuality Willard and [Richard] Foster have ended up on a not so quiet quest to subvert the historic orthodox Bibfilicafil Christian faith itsefilf.’

Willard’s Problematic Theology

‘To hear evangelicals like Dallas Willard and Richard Foster tell us that we need practices that were never spelled out in the Bible to become more like Christ or to get closer to God is astonishing… Te ideas of total depravity, the wrath of God against sin, the blood atonement, and the cross are either absent or distorted in Willard’s theology. What replaces these truths is the hope that we will realize our potential through tapping into the spiritual kingdom of God. Tis is to be done by the use of spiritual disciplines to obtain the necessary power to transform the world. Te terminology that Willard uses is strange and unbiblical…’ 18

HOW TO SPOT A FALSE APOSTLE“I know your works, your toil and your patient endurance, and how you cannot bear with those who are evil, but have tested those who call themselves apostles and are not, and found them to be false.” Rev. 2:2

Troughout Church history, men have risen up to trouble the people of God by claiming to be apostles that they might gain illicit authority over believers and churches to control and exploit them for personal gain and ambition. Tis was a widespread problem in the Early Church where there were a number of men causing problems, but today the problem has exploded into prominence as there are literally thousands of

men (and women!) claiming the ofce of apostle! How can we assess these claims and know the true from the false?

To be equipped to spot a false apostle, we need to understand the biblical defnition of a true apostle and the criteria that distinguish the genuine from the fraudulent.

What is an Apostle?“Apostle” (Greek αποστολος) in its simplest non-technical sense means emissary; one sent out on a mission on behafilf of someone efilse.19 In the New Testament the word is used in both this simple sense and to describe several diferent groups of people with difering spheres of responsibility and levels of authority. One of the problems that has occurred over the course of the centuries is that we have now come of think of the term onfily as meaning someone possessing the same or a similar kind of authority and ofce as the Twelve or Paul,-- but that is not what the Scriptures actually teach.

There are apostles and then there are APOSTLES:-there are different types of apostles in the New Testament

In general there are least three diferent classes of “apostle” clearly distinguishable in the New Testament.

1. Te Original Twelve and Paul.

2. Apostolic “Legates”

3. Apostles of the Churches.

1. The Original and Unique Twelve & PaulTe disciples of Jesus (the “Twelve”) and Paul, possessed unique quafilifcations, held a unique position and exercised a filevefil of authority not granted to others, and their ministries had a unique foundational role. Tey are specifcally referred to as “the apostles of the Lord” (2 Pt. 3:2, Jude 1:17); and “the apostles of the Lamb” (Rev. 21:14) and were also granted a unique position in the Age to Come (Mt. 19:28). Tey were appointed specifcally to be eyewitnesses to His ministry, death and

19 Jesus himself is actually called an apostle in Heb. 3:1 because he was sent by the Father (Jn. 17:3).

‘The ideas of total depravity, the wrath of God against sin, the blood atonement, and the

cross are either absent or distorted in Willard’s theology.’

To spot a false apostle, we need to understand the

biblical definition of a true apostle

Lord Jesus 20. (Mt. 10:1-15; Mk. 3:13-19; Lk. 6:12-15)

2. Tey were present from the baptism of John and throughout the whole ministry period of the Lord Jesus (Acts 1:21-22).

3. Tey were witnesses of the resurrection and ascension, and saw the resurrected Lord Jesus with their physical eyes (1 Co. 15:5-8).

4. Numerous and verifabfile mighty miracles and signs were consistentfily associated with the Twelve. (See also: Acts 2:43, 3:1-16, 5:13-16, 5:18, 6:8, 8:6, 8:13, 9:32-43)

Paul And His Apostolic QualificationsBecause had not been with the Lord Jesus from the beginning, Paul was not numbered among the original twelve and even referred to himself as “one born out of due time” (1 Co. 15:8), nevertheless he too was:

1. Personally commissioned by the Lord Jesus. (Acts 9:5-16, 22:10-21)

2. Saw the resurrected Lord Jesus with his physical eyes (indeed he was the filast person to do so) just as the Twelve did, and he specifcally mentioned this as part of his apostolic credentials.

Am I not free? Am I not an apostle? Have I not seen Jesus our Lord? Are not ye my work in the Lord? (1 Cor. 9:1)

And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time (1 Cor. 15:5-8).

3. Numerous verifed signs and mighty miracles of an unusual nature were associated with Paul’s ministry (Acts 14:3, 15:12, 15:19, 19:11-12). So much were these things considered a part of genuine apostolic credentials that Paul referred to them as the signs of an apostfile. (2 Cor. 2:12)

We must understand that Paul had not been one of the original Twelve or present from the baptism of John and onward; consequently, it was absolutely necessary that his apostolic claims and his message be ratifed by the originafil Twefilve who were the authorised custodians of the message of Jesus and were the only ones who could verify Paul’s apostolic calling and message.

‘Ten afer fourteen years I went up again to Jerusalem . . . and laid out to them the gospel that I preach among the Gentiles, but in private to the infuential people, lest somehow I was running, or had run, in vain. . . . , when they saw that I had been entrusted with the gospel to the uncircumcision, just as Peter to the circumcision (for the one who was at work through Peter for his apostleship to the circumcision was at work also through me for the Gentiles), and when James and Cephas and John—those thought to be pillars—acknowledged the grace given to me, they gave to me and Barnabas the right hand of fellowship, in order that we should go to the Gentiles and they to the circumcision.’

20 Tough Mathias’ appointment was a litle diferent than the others, the implication of the Acts account is that the Lord chose Mathias by lot to replace Judas. Tere is no hint of Divine displeasure at the Apostles method in Acts 1.

Unique In Their Authority:

Unique in their Authority to discipline, in the churches:Te apostles were authorised to excommunicate the unrepentant from the community and their decision to bind or loose (forbid or permit) would carry Heaven’s backing and also to proclaim forgiveness in the name of Jesus through the Gospel (Mt. 16:19, 18:15-22; Jn. 20:23).

Teir disciplinary authority was exercised in a number of ways:

1. In the case of Ananias and Sapphira it resulted in instant death (Acts 5:1-11).

2. Elymas the magician was blinded when rebuked by Paul. (Acts. 13:4-12).

3. Unrepentant individuals were handed over to physical death (1 Cor. 5:1-5; 1 Tim.1:19-20).

4. Pronouncement of forgiveness for sinning congregants upon repentance (2 Cor. 1:1-1).

5. Commanding of congregations to excommunicate disorderly members (2 T. 3:6-15)

Unique in their Authority to correctly interpret the words of Jesus and to decide matters of doctrine:

(Mat. 16:19, Acts 15 Gal. 2:1-10)

Because the Twelve had been with Jesus from the very beginning, even from the ministry of John; they had been exposed to the full spectrum of all that Jesus had taught during His earthly ministry. If anyone knew the content of Jesus teachings and their meaning, it was the Twelve.

So, even though Paul had received the Gospel by direct revelation from the risen Jesus, he went to Jerusalem to verify that his message was in accord with the deposit of faith entrusted by Jesus to the original twelve apostles. He submited his message to their scrutiny.

“Ten afer fourteen years I went up again to Jerusalem with Barnabas, taking along Titus also. Now I went up there because of a revelation and laid out to them the gospel that I preach among the Gentiles, but in private to the infuential people, lest somehow I was running, or had run, in vain. . . . these, when they saw that I had been entrusted with the gospel to the uncircumcision, just as Peter to the circumcision (for the one who was at work through Peter for his apostleship to the circumcision was at work also through me for the Gentiles), and when James and Cephas and John—those thought to be pillars—acknowledged the grace given to me, they gave to me and Barnabas the right hand of fellowship, in order that we should go to the Gentiles and they to the circumcision.” (Gal. 2:1-10 LEB)

When the question over circumcision arose, Paul and his companions went up to Jerusalem to the Twelve and elders for them to decide the mater, (Acts. 15:2) Paul recognised the unique authority of the Twelve.

“And some men came down from Judea and * began teaching * the brothers, “Unless you are circumcised according to the custom prescribed by Moses, you cannot be saved.” And afer there was no litle strife and debate by Paul and Barnabas against them, they appointed Paul and Barnabas and some

Page 7: NAR-WATCH ISRAEL - Apologetics Coordination Team - Vital ... · NAR-WATCH ISRAEL Documenting The NAR, ... 4 Inner Healings origins are well documented in Dave Hunt’s Seduction of

others from among them to go up to the apostles and elders in Jerusalem concerning this issue.” (Acts 15:1-2)

Unique in their Authority to write Scripture. Apart from Hebrews (whose author is uncertain), all of the canonical New Testament documents are either writen by members of the Twelve (John’s Gospel, Revelation, 1&2 Peter); those who were otherwise close to Jesus (James and Jude the Lord’s brothers); Paul himself; or were compiled from the eye-witness accounts (e.g Luke’s and Mark’s Gospels and the book Acts) of those who knew and ministered with them. Tough Paul was called later than the Twelve, early on his writings were accepted as inspired Scripture (2 Pet. 3:15-16) and were endorsed by Peter as being the word of God, which means that they were fully in harmony with the teaching of Jesus.

2. Apostolic LegatesTese were people who were directfily commissioned by one or more of the original Twelve; for example Stephen, Phifilip and Barnabas.

“And they chose Stephen, a man fufilfil of faith and the Hofily Spirit, and Philip, Prochorus, Nicanor, Timon, Parmenas, and Nicolas, a proselyte from Antioch, whom they set before the apostles; and when they had prayed, they laid hands on them. Ten the word of God spread, and the number of the disciples multiplied greatly in Jerusalem, and a great many of the priests were obedient to the faith. And Stephen, full of faith and power, did great wonders and signs among the people.” (Acts 6:5-8)

Barnabas also was sent forth by the Twelve and ministered along with Paul as an apostle.

Now those who were scatered because of the persecution that arose over Stephen traveled as far as Phoenicia and Cyprus and Antioch, speaking the word to no one except Jews. But there were some of them, men of Cyprus and Cyrene, who on coming to Antioch spoke to the Hellenists also, preaching the Lord Jesus. And the hand of the Lord was with them, and a great number who believed turned to the Lord. Te report of this came to the ears of the church in Jerusafilem, and they sent Barnabas to Antioch. When he came and saw the grace of God, he was glad, and he exhorted them all to remain faithful to the Lord with steadfast purpose, for he was a good man, fufilfil of the Hofily Spirit and of faith. And a great many people were added to the Lord. So Barnabas went to Tarsus to look for Saul, and when he had found him, he brought him to Antioch. For a whole year they met with the church and taught a great many people. And in Antioch the disciples were frst called Christians. Acts 11:19-27

Barnabas is clearly referred to as an apostle in a number of places: in Acts 14:4 where he is seen performing miracles; and Paul refers to him thus in 1 Cor. 9:1-6.

James the Lord’s brother.James the Lord’s brother was referred to as an apostle (Gal. 1:19; 1 Cor. 9:6).

Silas and TimothySilas was appointed and sent out by the Jerusalem church (Acts 15:22) and is later referred to as an apostle.

Although we [Paul and Silvanus and Timothy] could have imposed our weight as apostfiles of Christ; instead we became gentle among you. Like a nursing mother caring for her own children. (1 T. 2:6)

No miracles are recorded as being done by the hands of Silas or Timothy, even though Silas is mentioned as a prophet.

3. The Apostles of the Churches.Tose who performed emissariafil duties for individual congregations (2 Cor. 8:23 and Ph. 2:23). Ofen churches would send leters of recommendation along with those they sent out (see Acts. 15:22-31; 2 Cor. 3:1-3),21 indicating they bore the authority of the sending congregation. Tese other apostles would ofen accompany members of the Twelve or Paul. It is not recorded that these performed miracles. Tis type of apostle did not possess the authority of the Twelve or their legates; they were for the most part simple messengers in the generic sense of the word apostle, or in some cases church-planting missionaries.

Questions

Apostolic Signs and WondersIn addition to the apostolic qualifcations mentioned previously; the Scriptures fnd no apostolic miracles done by anyone other than the original Twelve, Paul, or the apostolic legates. As Paul put it himself, these were the particular regularly occuring and distinguishing signs of an (Type One or Two) apostfile, and not performed by all Christians in general. It was specifcally granted to the Twelve and Paul to perform unusual miracles in order to set them apart and authenticate their message and authority. If these miracles had been granted to all believers to perform, then there would have been nothing to distinguish the original apostles from anyone else.

Apostles will be with us until the Body reaches maturity?“And he gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers, to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ, until we all atain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to mature manhood, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ . . “ (Eph. 4:11-12)

We should never take one word or even one verse out of context and set it against the rest of Scripture testimony. To understand the signifcance of this verse we need to look at its full context within Ephesians and grasp the following concepts.

The Foundation of the Apostles and Prophets:--what it is.Consequently, therefore, you are no longer strangers and foreigners, but you are fellow citizens of the saints and members of the household of God, built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus himself being the cornerstone, in whom the whole building, joined together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord, in whom you also are

21 Tis would later become open to abuse by false apostles with specious credentials who would exploit and lead astray unwary congregations, such as Corinth (see 2 Corinthians chapters 9-11).

Page 8: NAR-WATCH ISRAEL - Apologetics Coordination Team - Vital ... · NAR-WATCH ISRAEL Documenting The NAR, ... 4 Inner Healings origins are well documented in Dave Hunt’s Seduction of

built up together into a dwelling place of God in the Spirit. * Eph. 2:19-22

On account of this I, Paul, the prisoner of Christ Jesus for the sake of you Gentiles —if indeed you have heard about the stewardship of God’s grace given to me for you. According to revelation the mystery was made known to me, just as I wrote beforehand in brief, so that you may be able when you read to understand my insight into the mystery of Christ (which in other generations was not made known to the sons of men as it has now been reveafiled to his hofily apostfiles and prophets by the Spirit): that the Gentiles are fellow heirs, and fellow members of the body, and fellow sharers of the promise in Christ Jesus through the gospel, of which I became a servant, according to the gif of God’s grace given to me, according to the working of his power. Eph. 3:1-12

Te phrase “apostles and prophets” does not refer to the actual physical presence of the persons themselves, but their teaching and/or testimony: in a similar way that the phrase the “law and the prophets” refers to the Old Testament corpus or “Moses” (Acts 21:21), the Torah.

In Eph. 2:20 that the phrase “apostles and prophets” does not actually refer to the apostolic testimony plus the Ofild Testament writings as some suppose. Tough the foundational nature of the Old Testament revelation is never far from Paul’s thinking, the following reasons reveal that he is referring to something else:

1. Tere are New Testament prophets (not merely the minor ones such as Agabus, the daughters of Philip and Silas), but several of the Apostles (e.g. Paul, Peter, Jude and John) were also prophets and their prophecies are recorded in their Epistles and most conspicuously the Apocalypse.

2. In Eph. 3, Paul, using the same phrase, refers to this prophetic revelation as something recent or current at the time of his writing.

3. In his leter to the Gentile Ephesians, the prophetical revelation that Paul is referring to is highly specifc; he is tafilking about the foundation which underfilies the incorporation of befilieving Gentifiles into the promises and inheritance that God has prepared for Israefil, but (as other scriptures show) without them becoming Jews, and their being buifilt together into a filiving tempfile. Tat foundation is the apostolic testimony to the fnished work of Christ which made such a thing possible.

“that the Gentiles are fellow heirs, and fellow members of the body, and fellow sharers of the promise in Christ Jesus through the gospel”

We see this same thought also running throughout chapter two, where afer describing the Ephesians’ previously lost and hopeless condition:

“ . . . that you were at that time apart from Christ, alienated from the citizenship of Israel, and strangers to the covenants of promise, not having hope, and without God in the world.

He then states:

But now in Christ Jesus you, the ones who once were far away, have become near by the blood of Christ. For he himself is our peace, who made both one and broke down the dividing wall of the partition, the enmity, in his fesh, invalidating the law of commandments in ordinances, in order that he might

create the two in himself into one new man, thus making peace, and might reconcile both in one body to God through the cross, killing the enmity in himself. And coming, he proclaimed the good news of peace to you who were far away and peace to the ones who were near, because through him we both have access in one Spirit to the Father. Consequently, therefore, you are no longer strangers and foreigners, but you are fellow citizens of the saints and members of the household of God, buifilt on the foundation of the apostfiles and prophets, Christ Jesus himsefilf being the cornerstone, in whom the whole building, joined together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord, in whom you also are built up together into a dwelling place of God in the Spirit.

Incorporation of believing Gentiles into the community of Israel was not unknown or unprophesied in the Old Testament; so in Eph. 3:5 Paul refers to this revelation in terms of degree;--he is not saying that this concept was absent from the Scriptures.

Acts records that it took time for the Apostles to grasp the signifcance of the OT revelation on this subject, and the full implication of Jesus’ words in Mat. 28:20 (that God would open the doors of repentance to the Gentile world and multitudes would stream into the kingdom without converting to Judaism) was not intitally appreciated. By the time that we reach Acts 15 however, their understanding of this issue was much more developed.

The Foundation is already accomplished and abiding.Te Ephesians present condition as fellowcitizens with the saints; their present state of being joined together and growing into a holy temple in the Lord;-- has come about because they were standing on the already existing foundation of the apostolic and prophetic testimony (which itself rests on the fnished atoning work of the Messiah) which they had previously received in faith. Paul speaks of it as an accomplished fact; the foundation had already been laid,--otherwise the superstructure could not have begun to be erected.

Te physical presence of Type One apostles was foundationafil and absolutely neccessary, but also transitionafil in nature. Tey were apppointed to ensure the correct understanding, transmission and initial dissemination of the teachings of Jesus. Te original apostles and prophets of the New Testament era successfully accomplished this task, and we have the proof of their success in the existence of the Gospels, Epistles, Revelation etc., which (together with the Old Testament) comprise the deposit of the faith once defilivered to the saints. Teir physical presence is no more, but their foundational ministry is ongoing through the testimony they passed on to us, just as the foundations of a building support a structure even though they are no longer visible above ground level. Te canon of Scripture has been closed; there can be no new foundations (Rev. 22:18-19); no new testimony of the words and teachings of Jesus; no new additions to Scripture.

Are there apostles today? And what about those who claim to have been “appointed by God” as apostles today?

Te Big Qestion should actually be “What kind of apostles do the Scriptures teach can exist today?” Or, as the Twelve and Paul have long since been gathered into the Lord’s presence, can there be a restoration of their apostolic ofce in our day?

Some are claiming that they are ‘restored original apostles’ possessing the same authority and ofce as the Twefilve or Paufil, called to govern the whole Body of Christ,22 and without them it can not reach maturity or enjoy the full blessing of God.

‘ . . . Tis is an issue of God’s government. According to New Covenant Scriptures, local congregations are not to be independent. . . . . the function of apostles in government and in fostering growth and Kingdom extension beyond the local congregation is crucial.’ 23

‘Te embracing of apostolic ministry is one key to spiritual fruitfulness, as the blessings of God are released when communities align under biblical leadership order. . .’ 24

Tey even claim to have been appointed by God Himself:

“We order our congregations under apostolic leaders who are chosen by God today and supernaturally confrmed as the servant-overseers of congregations. Tis is an issue of God’s government.” 25

How do we assess such claims? As we saw at the beginning, to be an apostle occupying the same ofce and bearing the same kind of authority as the Twelve one had to:

1. Have have been physically present from the baptism of John onward and throughout the ministry of Jesus,

2. Been personally chosen by Jesus Himself.

3. Have seen the risen Lord with his physical eyes.

If someone has been truly chosen by God to be an apostle, then both the selection process and the candidate will meet the criteria laid down in the Word of God.

As the ofce of apostle carries much greater authority and responsibifility than that of elder/pastor or deacons we would expect to fnd clear instructions governing both the need for their appointment afer the Twelve had deceased, and some indication of how to go about this; just as there are lengthy and detailed instructions on the appointment of deacons and elders in a local congregation:--but the New Testament contains no such thing.

Te onfily criteria the Scriptures do provide for replacement apostles; are when Peter and the others sought a replacement

22 According to restored apostle Daniel Juster23 Juster, Dan Apostofilic Order 24 Ibid.25 Ibid

for Judas; and these excfilude all possibility of genuine apostles of the same class, or of legates, being appointed afer the decease of the Twelve.

It is absolutely clear that no one today can meet these criteria. Terefore no one today can make a valid claim to possess the ofce, the governing and doctrinal authority, or the miraculous gifing of the original twelve (Type One Apostle), or even an apostolic legate (Type Two), as legates had to be appointed by the original Twelve. And even though Paul was a unique exception to the frst criterion, his apostolic calling was verifed by the original Twelve.

Peter, knowing that his time was short (2 Pe. 1:14), wrote to the believers; not in order to appoint new apostles to succeed him, but to stir them up by way of remembrance to the testimony which had afilready been bequeathed them: Paul also gave Timothy similar directions (1 Tim. 2:2).

ConclusionsIf no one claiming to be a “restored originafil apostle” 26 today can meet the biblical qualifcations either to be one of the Twelve, to be commissioned by one of the Twelve, or to possess like authority and ofce to them or the legates; then anyone making such a claim is without doubt a false apostle. In spite of their pompous words, their claims to apostolic ofce are fraudulent, as are their claims that God has sent them, when plainly He has not (Jer. 23:21). Tis mater is extremely serious should not be taken lightly, as Scripture has some very harsh things to say about such people:

And what I do I will continue to do, in order to undermine the claim of those who would like to claim that in their boasted mission they work on the same terms as we do. For such men are fafilse apostfiles, deceitfufil workmen, disguising themselves as apostles of Christ. And no wonder, for even Satan disguises

26 “In our generation we are witnessing the restoration of apostolic and prophetic ministry (Ephesians 4:11-13) in the body of Messiah worldwide. Litle by litle, apostolic and prophetic ministry is also being restored within the local remnant in Israel. . . . . Te restoration of apostolic-prophetic teams in Israel represents a partial restoration of the ministry of the original apostles of the frst century. Tat restoration is a key element of right alignment and spiritual government for the greater body of Messiah.” Intrater

A nice smile is not a sufficient criterion for apostleship. Only the biblical criteria matter. (photo The Sacred Sandwich)

‘No one today can make a valid claim to possess the ofce, the governing and

doctrinal authority, or the miraculous gifing of the original twelve’

himself as an angel of light. So it is no surprise if his servants, also, disguise themselves as servants of righteousness. Teir end will correspond to their deeds. (2 Cor. 11:12-15).

“I know your works, your toil and your patient endurance, and how you cannot bear with those who are evifil , but have tested those who cafilfil themsefilves apostfiles and are not, and found

them to be filiars.” (Rev. 2:2)

Te only “apostolic” positions open today, are those of Type Tree: Te most simple and generic sense of the Greek word αποστολος: in other words an ‘apostfile of the churches’; one

entrusted and sent out on a particular errand by a congregation. Because of the range of meaning that the Greek word represents, it is seriously misleading to refer to such individuals today as “apostle” in English; a beter term would be, representative or missionary. Such representatives do not hold a foundational ofce in the sense of doctrinal, governing or disciplinary authority in the manner of the Twelve, Paul or the legates.

Female apostles?“Greet Andronicus and Junia, my compatriots and my fellow prisoners, who are well known to the apostles, who were also in Christ before me” (Rom. 16:7)

Some argue for femafile apostleship because the name Junias has a feminine ending in Greek. Te argument however is specious.

Firstly there is the insurmountable obstacle of inability for anyone to meet the criteria; so no one, whether man or woman, can be either a Type One or Type Two apostle today, thus rendering the gender argument irrelevant. Secondly there is ambiguity as to the force of the Greek word εν in the verse in question (Rom. 16:7), which makes it unclear whether the text is saying that Andronicus and Junias were well known to the apostles or wefilfil-known apostles. Conclusion: there is no biblical evidence to support female apostles of Type One or Two at any time.

Restored Apostle Dan Juster’s Defective Criteria for Apostleship

Apostle Dan claims that ‘restored’ apostles are what they were in biblical times, (possessing the same ofce and authority etc.)--except for writing authoritative Scripture, and that they provide governmental order and covering for fve-fold ministry

His Criteria for Selection:1. Apostles may be chosen by other apostles (apostolic

succession in historic churches)

2. Apostles may be chosen supernaturally by the Holy Spirit

Notice how in Juster’s list all the most important biblical criteria are missing!

Narwatch Israel represents the concerns of a growing number of Israeli believers who are beginning to be very alarmed about the terrifying inroads that the unbiblical spirituality the NAR represents has made here. We hope that you will fnd this information helpful, and if so will warn others.

This list originally began in order to document which congregations are connected with the New Apostolic Reformation movement or who endorse or practice any of its distinctives. However, as time has passed other items of concern have come to our atention; so now I have also included those known to be promoting other serious errors, or heresies such as Modalism, the Emergent Church, and occult practices such as Spiritual Formation, or who are part of other aberrant movements such as the C3 and similar networks.

Te list is not exhaustive. It includes only those whom we are currently aware of. Just because an organisation is absent does not necessarily mean that it is not NAR or does not embrace other errors. Tere are other individuals, congregations and organisations out there that may embrace NAR or Emergent Church distinctives and other errors about which we presently know nothing; this may be particularly true in the Arabic and Russian-speaking congregations.

In regard to the NAR, the following criteria, which I believer are fair, were applied when considering whether an organisation, congregation or ministry was NAR etc, and if they matched any one or more of these they were included on the list:

a) Explicitly states is part of the NAR or Emergent movement, or identifes as apostolic, or prophetic in the NAR sense of the word.

b) Afffirmation, Endoffirsement or pffiractice of one or more key NAR or Emergent distinctives (for example: provides or is under “apostolic coveffiring,” is part of the spiffiritual waffirfaffire movment, teaches spiffiritual foffirmation etc.).

c) Individual or offirganisation is listed in NAR websites (e.g. the Elijah List) publications etc., as being aligned with that movement in some way.

d) Membeffirship or leadeffirship in known or recognised NAR organisations or congregations.

e) Regulaffirly appeaffirs or is seen in continuous appffiroving association with NAR or Emergent organisations, events, teachings and fgures, shares ministry platforms etc.

A Note to Readers.Tis is a work in progress so I apologise for its somewhat unfnished appearance. Since the last update (Sept. 2017) I have

added more material, new items have come to light and I have also included many more links both internally within the document and to outside websites. Tere is still a lot to be done, but things are moving very fast and I felt that the time had come to release it even though things are not quite completed.

Tis is an electronic document with clickable links; though of course it can be printed, the easy facility to cross reference and visit external websites will be lost.

How to use this list• TThe BluThe TThext are hyperlinks which should work

within this PDF document as cross-references and also take you to the relevant Internet page if there is one. If you only have a printed copy then of course this will not be available.

• FTheThedback. I try to make sure that the entries on the list are accurate, but I am not perfect. If someone spots an error, please let me know and I can correct it for future edtions.

• Do your own rThesThearch. I can’t provide all documentation behind these entries, but I don’t include them without good reason. If you are particularly interested about a certain entry: look at their web site; check their teachings, check such things as statements of faith etc; look at with whom these people ffiregulaffirly associate, appear with and promote. You will nearly always fnd the reason why they are on this list there.

• GooglThe! Look for links between list items and Later Rain Apostolic Movements using NAR search terminology. Look on Discernment sites and see if they are listed etc.

• SprThead it around! If you have found the list useful, pass it on: circulate to pastors, friends and fellow lovers of Israel and who cheffirish sound doctffirine, but be circumpect and don’t cast youffir peaffirls befoffire swine. Tis list is intended for those who alffiready know about the NAR and how seriously heretical it is, and so that they can be aware of who are the NAR afliates and who are teaching NAR doctrines here in Israel.

TheThe ListListA listing of all currently known congregations, organisations and ministries resident or operating within Israel that are known to teach

seriously unbiblical errors or are associated with deviant spiritual movements and about whom we have deep and serious concerns.

Sadly, Chosen People Ministries is now training Israeli Messianic leadership in Spiritual Formation practices such as Lectio Divina and Contemplative Prayer, Spiritual Directors etc. through courses by John Coe. Spiritual Formation is not Scriptural and at its root is the exchange of a biblical faith for a mystical religion using various spiritual disciplines rooted in Catholic, gnostic and even occult practices.

Shira Sorko-Ram (nee Carol Lindsay) is the daughter of Gordon and Freda Lindsay, hence the close association of MAOZ with CFNI and its Later Rain emphases. Today a number of CFNI alumni operate in Israel: Peter and Rita Tsukahira, Avi and Chaya Mizrachi, Sharon Sanders of CFI Jerusalem to name a few.

5 Even apart from doctrinal concerns, Gateways Beyond is an extremely worrying institution. Its student handbook reads like a cult-group manual. Some of the restrictions are highly controlling. For example: No use of personal phones at all at any time. Students have to use the payphones located in the Gateways building. All students have to keep a journal which is submited to the teachers every week.

6 Wayne Wilks is Executive Pastor, Jewish Ministry at the Gateway Church of propserity apostle Robert Morris. Gateway Church is also a longstanding partner of MAOZ.

7 Chad Holland is the son-in-law of NAR chief apostle Daniel Juster.

For more information regarding the work and teachings of John G. Lake and concerns about his teachings see here.

International Association of Healing Rooms Richard and Dotie Kane

Tere are lot of things that should deeply worry us about this movement, but one of them is its deeply ecumenical nature:

“We are building teams from the body of Christ Lutherans, Pentecostals, Baptists, Charismatic Catholics, Non-Denominations and others to join in unity to release healing in our world now . . .” htps://healingrooms.com/index.php?src=local&l=US1297&page=3

“For too long we have separated ourselves through denominations, divisions over beliefs . . . . God is asking us to rethink our toleration of each other in exchange for real relationships, church merges and ministry together. . . “ htp://healingrooms.com/index.php?page_id=2455

Ellel Grange/Ellel MinistriesWhile this organsation does not have a specifc premises in Israel,

its dangerous teachings are being endorsed and promoted by some well-known leaders.9

“I would like to give my complete support and encouragement to Ellel Ministries as they begin their work in Israel. Te Messianic body here is still in its infancy, that is, in ‘pioneer mode’. In the past, we have not given sufcient atention to the areas of healing, counselling and deliverance. Now is God’s kairos time to launch out and train a new generation of leaders. I believe Ellel Ministries will have a profound infuence on the spiritual future of our nation.” Peter Tsukahira, Executive Director, Or HaCarmel Ministry Centre, Co- founder, Pastor, Kehilat HaCarmel

“Israel’s prophets promise healing to the exiles who return from generations of afiction. Ellel’s ministry in Israel has been a tool of healing and equipping to fulfll this promise. We need the spiritual insight and partnership Ellel ofers. Te indigenous national Messianic community is being well-served by the insight that partnership with Ellel provides. Without healed, liberated Israeli messengers the nation will have no voice through which to hear the Gospel of Yeshua’s Kingdom. Baruchim HaBaim! Blessed are those

who have come, with God’s healing love for His ancient covenant people.” Apostle Eitan Shishkoff Tents of Mercy, Kiryat Yam, Israel

“We have been blessed to know personally Ellel Ministries these last few years and we could see their genuine desire to fulfl the vision of Isaiah 61 to the wounded people of Israel, both Jews and Arabs. Our congregation has been sending its counsellors and prayer ministers to receive more training provided through the Ellel modular courses. We heartily recommend the ministry to you. Teir desire to work in close relationship with the local body of Messiah here in Israel is also showing their desire and motivation to serve the Body and thus working together to reach the maturity and unity of the perfected bride of Christ, waiting for His return, soon, here in Jerusalem. Maranatha.” Tony Sperandeo, Senior and Founding Leader, HaMaayan Congregation, Kfar Saba

“I have been privileged to know many of the Ellel Ministries leadership for some years. I know that they have a love for Israel and I have been a witness of them paying a price for not compromising on their call to stand with Israel and the Jewish People. Israelis are in great need of a ministry of healing and deliverance. We are not only a wounded and rejected people, but when we come to Messiah Yeshua, the hurt we experience (from family and friends) is ofen actually multiplied. We are also seeing an explosion of anti-Semitism world wide that is already afecting the Jewish People in body, mind, soul and spirit. Please stand with us and Ellel that we might be set free, enabled and equipped to be all that the Lord has called us to be.” Eliyahu Ben-Haim, Chairman, Intercessors for Israel.

Women without WallsSchool for Life Inner Healing

“Adriana Rosenzvaig, who leads the Women Without Walls (WWW) ministry at Tiferet Yeshua and was trained in the Elijah House inner healing method, will lead the [School For Life] course. “

“Rosenzvaig and her husband Raul made aliyah (immigrated to Israel) from Argentina in 1989. Teir congregation in Buenos Aires under Claudio Freidson sent them out to help build up the Body of Messiah here. Among other exciting projects the Rosenzvaigs also worked with David and Karen Davis at the Carmel congregation in Haifa. . . . After a number of years, the Rosenzvaigs felt called to work in America. While there, Rosenzvaig trained extensively in wholeness and inner healing, including at Elijah House (EH). EH was founded by Americans John and Paula Standford in 1975 and has since grown to become an international ministry with “houses” in countries as diverse as Australia, Japan, Austria and Guam. “

10 FIRM recently denied that they were part of the NAR. However in the light of Hilsden’s continual assocation with senior NAR fgures, his choice of them for his board of directors, his participation in the leadership of a major NAR organisation, that fact that KKCJ is saturated with NAR teachings and practices, and his provision of “apostolic oversight” to a church in the USA, we can only take these denials with a grain of salt.
