of the fiscal year 2012 were paid in full so that NANMT could start fresh with 2013. Had it not been for the gener-

osity of our members this would never have occurred. The relief by the Board for no longer having this 'hang' over the Asso-ciation's head cannot even begin to be ex-pressed…..other than…should we have

a Virtual Debt Free Bill Burning Celebration? Probably not but the thought does bring some sort of positive closure at this time.

Debt Free!! Those were the words the Board heard this past January 2, 2013. As you recall or for those who are new members, the current Board took on the $4000 ++ debt owed to our current Manage-ment Company, Long & Associ-ates from the previous Board. The former Board members stayed longer than their terms required for their Board posi-tions, attempted to rectify the situation in a variety ap-proaches and finally presented to the membership that

NANMT be dissolved. When put to the vote, the member-ship said no and thus we are here today. The current Board

continues to thank them for everything they achieved during that most difficult time within the Association. This debt of $4000 ++ along with the monthly expenditures

NANMT is only as strong as it’s membership and our membership is growing and each individual or institution which renewed as a member of the various Categories -- The Board is grateful for your support.

Someone once mentioned that there were hundreds and hundreds of Nurse Massage therapists out there. Well one wonders where 'out there is.' If that is a true statement then the proposed Ambassador Program will certainly respond to that statement. In essence, you are already an Ambassador to not only discussing your unique role within the health care system but its NANMT

intent to build on your net-working abilities by having you become an Ambassador for the Association. Here is how this proposed program will work…..NAMT will send you 15 brochures as well as a tip sheet on Marketing & FAQ's so that you can encourage your fellow nurse massage therapists to join the Associa-tion.

Now you may ask, what's in it for me? For every new or renewal member --- regardless of membership category - who joins and mentions your name, you will receive a $5.00 certifi-cate to use toward next year's membership. Just keep those Certificates as you will need to submit them as proof toward a reduce membership fee.

Although very disappointing last year with the less than positive reception by various insurance carriers………… efforts will again be initiated with other potential Liability Insurance Companies. Stay tuned for further updates as they occur. I am currently

discussing NANMT's request with an Insurance carrier who is able to put together what the membership wants…the glitch is that our low membership numbers do not warrant the monetary outlay of developing a new insurance packet. Soooooooooooo, I ask each of

you to recruit new members, receive those Ambassador certificates and we can then move forward with offering Nurse Massage Therapists a Liability package reflecting both Nursing and Massage Therapy.

Dual Liability Insurance for NANMT members

The newly revised and re-vamped Standards of Practice are now on NANMT's website for your approval. The Board has accepted them but it is up to the membership to vote as to whether they reflect our Standards by which we prac-tice. Early in 2012, I had a conversa-tion with the late Ethlyne Davidson who not only ex-pressed her strong support for the continuation of NANMT but also suggested that the Board and the membership re-visit the SOP's to determine their relevancy in today's health

care arena. The initial revision was placed on the WEB for members to review and add comments…but even knowing how busy we all are, it was still a professional disappointment that few mem-bers critiqued the document. Those who did respond - a special thank you to you - were very helpful in their critical assessment. Those comments and suggestions have been integrated into the newly re-vised document plus the ex-panded Outcome Criteria for Research was added.

If you have not already re-ceived your special password, you will shortly. Read the document, give us your feed-back via e-mail whether it needs further refinement with your suggestions, if the SOP's need to include more tangible statements or if you accept them as presented. Your com-ments need to be back to the Board by April 15th, 2013. If all goes well, this document will become a permanent guide and tweaked PRN as our role con-tinues to emerge and grow as a strong advocate for comple-mentary health.

trum presented in Washington D.C. in December of 2004 and the “Making a Difference Award” at Ramapo College from the Russ Berrie Founda-tion in 2005. In a recently published book, Selling From The Inside Out, author Barry Siskind uses her as an example of someone who presses on in dire circumstances using cour-age and hope to overcome perilous obstacles. It is with this same proactive, tenacious approach coupled with her passion to share her well-honed "Nurse-Wit" that Evelyn offers solutions for families with aging seniors.

(Continued from page 1) With enthusiasm Evelyn is al-ways eager to share relevant information with Seniors and Baby Boomers. Even before the term “Aging-In-Place” came of age she was doing all in her power to help seniors stay safe and independent in familiar surroundings while working together with their families to find solutions and favorable outcomes. Her #1 goal is to enhance and maintain the qual-ity of lives. With empathy and compassion she educates, en-courages and supports both seniors and their families which helps calm both client and fam-ily during crisis and everyday life. As Primary Caregiver to

both her own mother and mother-in-law in our “Sandwich Generation” she is well acquainted with the pres-sures and joys a caregiver faces; therefore, clients and families can rest assured that when Evelyn is involved she brings with her a mix of both profes-sional and personal knowledge which provides benefits for all involved. Ever the optimist, Evelyn presents with a positive attitude using a lighthearted, amusing approach thus giving her the name “Nurse Sun-shine”.

Continuing Education for NANMT members

NANMT is currently in dia-logue with an approved NCBTMB educational provider to present educational pro-gramming via the Distance Learning Format. This ap-proach is currently being util-ized by many educational insti-tutions as well as CE Compa-nies as it is less expensive for the learner in relation to travel, food and lodging while at the same time, still maintaining the opportunity to actively interact with the presenters as well as fellow participants. Judy Dean,

the current President of NANMT, has experience in the development and imple-mentation of this ap-proach and invites those of the membership who also have this expertise or interest in exploring this method of teaching to contact her at (219) 326-1380 for additional information.

1. Q. Is there a nurse only Massage Therapy school in the US so that we nurses don't have to repeat what we already know? A. Unfortunately there is currently no school oriented only to Nurse who wish to become Massage Therapists. NANMT continues to work on developing a collaborative part-nership with an institution of higher learning and various Schools of Massage Therapy in offering such a program. Stay tuned as this Project moves forward. 2. Q. What exactly are the Benefits of being a member of NANMT? What do I receive for my $100.00 membership Fee?

A. One could easily answer with comments such as … 'As a NANMT member

you contribute to the ongoing validation of Nurse Massage Therapy as a nursing specialty”

“Your membership re-flects your Professionalism as a Nurse Massage Therapist, on your busi-ness cards or stationery.

It gives you a feeling of professional pride to be part of the movement within the Association as we become more and more called upon for our expertise'

….. here is what a fellow nurse

member has to say: " The membership of

NANMT brings the recognition of your dual licensure status to the public and the profession by not only the use of the acro-nym on your business cards/business advertising – but it lets your clients know that you appreciate and respect the integral important relationship between the nursing skilled touch and the advanced profes-sional education of touch therapies by being a member of the national association specifi-cally created for dually licensed therapists. This is worth every dollar spent.” Below is a financial breakdown of your $100 or less yearly dues

you wish to pursue. With that being said, this is how to determine if you meet the 750 hour educational re-quirement for continued Certi-fication.

Start with the hours of the program you attended for Mas-sage Therapy and add to that all the hours of Continuing Education you submitted to NCB since the day you achieved Board Certification. If those numbers add up to 750 you are able to be re-

certified. If not, then you will have to attend NCB approved Continuing Education pro-grams. Check their Website for those approved courses. Regardless, you will probably have to take a re-search course which is also a new requirement. As yet, NANMT has not connected with the individual who can answer the question as to whether NCB will accept un-dergrad or graduate University based Research courses. We will keep you posted as new developments occur. If you present Continuing Edu-cation courses under the um-brella of an Organization which is a NCB approved CE pro-vider, that too has changed back to requiring individual instructors to be approved CE providers......something which was present when I was initially involved with NCB at the na-tional level in the late 90's.

Over the past year NANMT has received questions regard-ing The National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage & Bodywork. It is always rec-ommended for those wishing information or clarification to call NCB's HQ in Chi-cago. Here is how the change from a 500 hour Mas-sage Program to a 750 hour basic MT program will affect those of us who are already nationally Certified and who may not be totally clear on how the new Credential-ing changes will impact our Certifications Please note that the basic Nursing Pro-gram we all attended is not considered to be Continuing Education courses by any Cer-tifying Body.
