0b; man- ual;after 6 years of exploring possibilities and

techniques of 2dimensional imagery on the computer i finally came to the idea of coll-ecting what seemed the best of my works to me in 2003. i had started to work slowly then with and for people who werent myself or my friends primarily. so it seemed necessary to be able to show people what i do, in case they wan-ted to hire me.this collection i made was way before the time of me exploring pdf files creation, so i put all the files in named folders and burnt them on to cdr, which came pretty unhan-dy, although containing a video folder as well.

these days im working on creating a whole back catalogue of my digital only files. while doing so i remembe-red my 2003 showcase and came to the idea to simply put it into a nanid issue of its own. everything from the original catalogue is in here - except the videos. almost everything i think is quite good still; so i hope you like it as well. i made some comments for a better understanding.enjoy.

a) caliphone{the amazing! perfect picture. combines my love to letters with the following deconstruction of em, and a beautiful coloring with graphical imagery that borders on minimalism.also known under the title <ikan monatori>. its the apex of a series of pictures with the same text, that speaks about a space explorer and the captain of the ship.}


a) fudge{unused cover artwork for the EP <slicing va-pour planes> by pasiv n vears.}


a) cern{unused logo design sketch for sätchmo, saying <sätschmo> .}


a) frezar length{like this one very much. also known under the name <freezar tenc>.if my memory serves me right it was never real writing, only looked like it. like 3dimensional handwriting, shook up.}


a) mono{i totally love this. one of the few truly unique pictures that were used no further. its also known under the lame name <the wooden>.the font is no original by me; instead i changed one from my computer until i liked what i saw.}


a) missing it{a cut out from the cover work of <the fragile path> by ivn vears.my usual procedure in terms of script on covers was to handle each layer on its own, as an inde-pendent image; morph it and suite it to the main image and paste it onto it to look if its right. if not, id erase the pasted layer and alter the script image a little more as needed, then copy and paste it again onto the main image. its quite a time and space consuming procedu-re, but we are talking about the usage of rather simple programs, where i found it much easier to handle everything on its own, to get my in-tended results. and as a plus i get those beauti-ful one-background-color-sheets with font work on it as leftovers from the work.}



a) zen{logo designs for bolz´n. two from the right side were used in the end.created by adding and subtracting different fonts and sizes in script color and background color until the look felt right for the band.}

a) lithe node{unused logo for neurotitan. i heard someone say octopuses had an incredi-ble amount of neural connections and made a logo based on that. like the colors and form a lot.}

b) crawler V32{unused logo for neurotitan. mimicking a nano-tech crawler, docking onto braincells.}


a) cube{unused logo for neurotitan. best of the desi-gned neurotitan logos. i really like the cube/O form. it truly captures the spirit of the word to me.it was drawn with pencil, scanned and enhanced digitally.}

a) technical frontpage{unused bolz´n logo. maybe for the website, i dont recall anymore.using a pseudo-technical drawing of a bolt and pictures from the work on the bands first 7” co-ver.}


a) con front{unused logo for ausland. i really like the idea behind the logo and the execution as well. this is all done in 2dimensions. the original texture on the pseudo sphere is one of my favorite pic-tures.}

b) whiteout{unused logo for ausland. variation of the main logo. also done to provide a smaller extract ver-sion of the logo.in the end they told me, they didnt want to have any logo at all, mirroring their diversity in hap-penings and music concerts. which was fine with me, though i still like the logo a lot.}


a) tea{rejected t shirt design commission for kanal b. the task was to create a design involving the word / expression <liebevoll>, meaning lovely or gentle. i had done it with a friend, but in the end i was so proud on the outcome and disap-pointed about the head of kanal b not getting and liking the idea, that i neglected to explain the idea to her.it was so obvious to me. based on the wordplay of the meanings <lovely> and <full of love> as well, we created a fetus on the shirt in the middle of the womb, saying that since babies are hopefully the effect of love, the one with the baby is full of love, too. the t shirt was meant to be for male and female t shirts as well.}

b) prate{from the unused design sessions for sätchmo. the idea was to create a pirate alter ego for him, hence the wooden leg. sadly in the end nothing came to pass.}

a) kremar{flyer for the second series of a regular live ses-sion. creating the flyer was difficult since all flyers for the first series were handmade and copied. for the second series i came up with the idea of doing them digitally, but in the end they still were to be photocopied in black and white and no photoprinter was available at that time. so the digital flyers had to be as simple as possi-ble and would be printed cheaply, even without greyscale tones. most of them ended up looking real bad in printed version.i like the font work of the digital version any-way.}



a) entrex{second flyer for the first series of regular live sessions. im very proud of it; to me this is the best fly-er ive ever made. the central image was hand drawn, created while waiting for a film to start in our towns old independent cinema. the buil-ding was an unused church and it was filled with tables and chairs like a restaurant, so i drew this piece all the while till the movie was beginning.}

b) alone{another digital flyer version for the second se-ries of the live sessions; yet this one was never meant to be printed in the first place because of the amount of grey tones.im totally in love with this one, because its loo-king like foggy woods from above.the writing says <texturkonflikte>, as was the name of this session.}

a) endared{back when i was a student we had a special seminar concerning audio dramas. at the end of the semester we made an official exhibition, where we would play sounds that are endan-gered, mostly because the things producing the sound were extinct.this is my poster for the exhibition. i was so proud about it. i showed it to a friend back then and he said i should have limited my using of different fonts to 2. now, years later, i can see what he meant. plus the layout seems a little nervous to me now.}


a) gravity struggleB{unused flyers for neurotitan. front and flip si-des. i really like this one. its so rich in details, yet very simply structured. this side contains all the written information plus the name <neuroti-tan> in a font overload, yet very stylized, head-lighting the main letters.}

b) gravity struggleA{this side is playing around the idea of picturing neuronal links in the brain. I like the yellow stri-pe with the recurring icons of the O and N.}

c) fiveB{unused flyers for neurotitan. front and flip si-des.imagery based on the idea of accessing the neu-rons through a plug. ..laugh now... future will tell.}

d) fiveA{i dont like this side at all. it is soo chunky. the-res nothing good to it. except maybe seeing the plug in whole. but that counts like zero.}


a) arcam{almost spontaneously created flyer for a friends private party. the elve was hand drawn by me, then scanned and tweaked until the result felt right.the spiral forms are a simple effect from the friends coral draw.}

a) anatol{a very old and very huge drawing i had made on A2 or A1 paper sheet.this version here is the little sticker that was made of it for parasols second tape.}



a) appiila{pencil drawing on a friends sketch book. off two pages rectangles were cut out, through which i could see the underlying picture made by her. i drew on the blank page until my picture made a kind of sense in connection with the underlying window.}

a) amin crawler{in summer i used to hang around friends places, to chat and cook, and eat sometimes. i used to draw little pictures on all kinds of pieces of pa-per, like cheques or teabag wrappings. someti-mes i felt like photographing them, sometimes i just left them somewhere.}

a) angelic{i tried to paint a cover for the interconnected <the sky is full of life>/<slicing vapour planes> Eps by pasiv n vears. i painted it while being at a friends place, continuously over weeks, every time i was there. the final product was a pretty good picture, but sadly not of any use as a cover for the specific music; maybe because we were listening to whole other music while painting..the colors shown here are not original; alterna-ted by the dim yellow light through the camera.}

a) symbiotic life{picture i did for meam, because i saw this on the cover artwork of their genius LP <the L> my friend had bought, while in fact it showed so-mething completely else. i love to see different things in patterns and forms, so i drew what i saw at that moment, finished the picture and send it per email to them. they were so kind to disrespectingly replying what an ass i would be copying their record for myself. nothing more. now, these days, that i know that one of them was the founder of skam i can understand their anger a little, but ???!!!?? what the heck..the picture was made in my classic way. pen-ciling, inking. on another paper color painting with my fingers. scanning both and combining them in the computer.i like the skull like form in the upper right cor-ner.}

b) the calm{a picture for and about a colleague of mine on the university.its done with ink pen, watering and 2dimensio-nal computer work.}


a) semion{pasted photographs of a round container for empty cans. the broken layer of old paint was amazing. i used parts of it again on the t shirt i did for bolz´n. the letters were added and mimi-cked later in the computer.}


a) wetwood{a masterpiece. the base of it was a scanned flyer for one of the regular live sessions, done solely with pen, paper and copy machine. here another photograph or digital picture got worked into it.}


a) the dragons lake{altered dia slides. the title is taken, because in a way to me this has the same dark haunting quality of the unknown as the other two dragon pictures. and what we see right there might just be the reptilian skin of a dragon ascending...}


a) the soft skin of snow{wonderful graphic piece, combining two diffe-rent photographs and effects in the computer.}


a) third eye{purely graphic leftovers from the work on <the calm> on page 050. since i had done not much graphic work i loved this. i like it still a lot. its just form and letters. what else do i need?!?}

b) i dreamt about the dirt under my fingernails{this was new back then. it was just a scanned ink pen picture that was then used to attempt coloring in my computer. i used different layers - maybe for the first time - and different alte-red pictures as textures plus a little hand held mouse coloring.i like the face a lot. looks very positive.}

a) denenTRT{all the digital works of mine are solely created within my computer and with nothing else but the computer program i used back then to crea-te pictures. some are based or partially based on text or sole letters, but all are created with the use of filters and through combination of se-veral images and thereby creating new textures, colors and forms.whenever this new image was far enough from its origin and or good enough to exist on its own i saved it onto my harddrive.}


a) dying{also known under the title <biological warfare°N tracer>, which shows what im seeing in this image. looks like infestation of a nanorganic vi-rus, tearing apart a structure, shown only as its own blueprint, or greyprint for that matter. ii have never managed to create another picture like this ever. its an incredible piece. the structure effect is created through several layers of blocked pictures and an edge trace fil-ter, for the viral elements, im hopelessly clueless how i did them.}


a) ektacrome{another piece that never found a successor. yes. ive accomplished to shatter pictures into the tiniest pieces, but never again in such a glass like manner and detail.}


a) frozen{also known under the name <gittert°zirimtech>.another fulfilled example for creating pseudo or-ganic forms and structures. this is a piece from a series that reminded me on meat hanging from the ceiling in a giant butchers freezer.}

a) my world {also known under the name <gleiß>. its a de-rivate of a pretty elaborate composition piece, in which i used blocks of text as skyscrapers in a flooded apocalyptic world. this is a quasi post apocalyptic version of it all, a color filtered look through the heatwave of a nuclear explosion.}

a) angry mamoth{to me this was a very impressing thing. the co-lor, depth and form seemed so organic...the round forms in the back are from those few days with corel draw.}

a) time{for a cd design i toyed with the idea of ex-pressing the name just by zeros and ones - ze-ros being all the counters of the alphabet, ones being all the letters actually used from it. no one could read it... if you look very closely you find the piece bom-bed with words that i threw in at smallest possi-ble letter size.}

b) mayor sky{i love when different shades of colors are al-most invisible for the human eye. i made only few pictures of that kind.}


a) tek es tz 6a{originally the <subkomtextur> picture was done for the digital rerelease of a compilation of tape recordings, accompanied by all the original artworks, flyers and thoughts belonging to the sessions. subkomtextur was one of the recorded live ses-sions. the pictures showed the letters conversa-tion that lead to the idea of the session; both si-des showed a different letter in a different font, separated by the title in the middle of them.}

b) system flattern{a very beautiful derivate of the picture shown on the left side. many alterations were seen of it. it became one of the mayor grounds for do-zens of pictures and is a completion of one of my goals to create pictures, simply based on text. in the end, after all those years i noticed that its relatively simple to create anything from anything; that this minimalizing of the art pro-cess is very good to learn about your tool and to avoid blockades, but these days my goals are to create something as it has been planned, which i find much harder.}

a) deep ends{i adore this form, because one cant make it out, and can never tell, that it aint in fact 3di-mensional.i wanted to use this picture in different randomly appearing colorations as the entrance image of the second version of my - still not installed - web site.

i created the pseudo 3dimensional forms by re-peatedly deforming ordinary 2dimensional ima-ges in all directions. when i did this often enough and controlled enough, seemingly organic life-like forms were the outcome. its a rather long process. and one of the mayor rules of the pro-cess is to have very high resolution images to deform; otherwise the final form will look very coarse and nowhere near a lifelike being.}

c) kimenD{cover of <the fragile path> by ivn vearz.all photographs were taken by anakin in istan-bul. i altered them when necessary.whenever i do cover work it goes like this. i put the music that belongs to the cover on repeat and let it run; in that time i try to feel the mu-sic and come up with images that fit the emo-tions the music is giving me. sometimes this is only color or something very vague, other times ive certain scenes or images or themes in my head; next im either starting to recreate this felt image or im searching my harddiskdrive or room for certain pictures, all the while the mu-sic is playing; then, maybe next day, i will look through all collected pictures with the music again and check what feels right and what not; i make propositions to the client with actual pic-tures or ideas only; and then the actual design work starts and i listen to whatever i want, since i have made sure before, the picture and idea is right for the music.i think i really captured the mood of the music.}

a) sunbath{back when we used to take photographic pictu-res with analogue film we found the enjoyment of dia slides. the colors seemed richer plus we used them to make evening shows from time to time with all our pictures projected on the wall.when we worked with dia slides we discovered the possibility of double or triple exposuring, of which you can see a little here.those images show damaged fountain mecha-nics.}

a) dan lander{another containers surface texture. the amount of ever changing details is amazing. you can see so much in it!}


a) empty{theres a trick to taking pictures with cheap digital cameras. as they focus by pushing the button halfway down and then adjust the light automatically you can trick them by letting them calibrate another view, holding the finger halfway down until you truly shoot the wanted image and thereby you can adjust coloring and focus, as done on this sky picture.}

a) ilinoga{the downside of a boat that had been flipped for a very long time to dry. aside from the light falling onto the surface, there are various traces of the life and world and time gone by around it.and a beautiful fading of color.}

a) cycles{this is a mirroring building covered in green fabric while being renewed.its looking great with the colors of the sky.not far from there, but months later ive seen a fabric that size painted in whole by a graph crew showing a giant fist. ive only seen it once, be-cause days later they already changed the fabric because of it...}

a) nicaragua{amazing, isnt it?! dont know how it works; like double or triple reflexions of my schools window with its blinds. they dont like seeing cameras being used there. so everytime i saw something beautiful i had to be very secretive and fast.}


a) flatron{this looks so vivid to me! i dont really know what it shows, the colors are like rhubarb, but who knows..}


a) splicer{work in progress picture of <iqivoar>. a nice composition, especially with the background stuff and the yellow color, that made no appea-rance on the final painted picture.}

b) golden stone{metal plate, which resembles a heck of a lot to the picture on the left. looks as if painted, too.}


a) krivi onar{one of the best pictures ive ever taken. it con-tains rich and diverse textures, graphic forms and kind of surrealism all at the same time. and looks like heavily tweaked, though its not at all.i think it was taken inside a small sinking boat.}


a) qoscience{at the time i got an operation made in an hos-pital way south from where i lived, many times i was wandering through the yard between the hospitals wings. they had many plants there - which was the only good thing about this hos-pital and i still dont get why hospitals need to have such a sterilized anti-life feel to them....the photograph shows part of the leaf of an gi-gantic plant that ive never seen before.}
