Excelsior Correspondent JAMMU, Oct 6: With a motive to provide apparels at low prices with best quality to men, women and kids, Reliance Group opened its first showroom at Jammu in Janipur area which was inaugurated by BJP State president and MLA Jammu West Sat Sharma (CA). Officials of Reliance Group, local residents and political activists of the area were also present during the inauguration ceremony. Speaking on the occasion, Sat Sharma appreciated the efforts of Reliance Group and the land owner Jaidev who has provided space for the showroom and said that their effort has brought a major change by giving employ- ment to around 50 local people which in turn will benefit 50 fam- ilies as well. He said that here variety is available for all segments including men, women and kids and that too at a very cheap price which can be afforded by every segment of the society and that too under a major brand of Reliance Group. He stated that a major relief has been provided to the locals by opening of this showroom as many products are available here under one roof and now people don't have to go to distant places for shopping as many areas will be covered through this showroom which is a big relief for the locals of Jammu West. He also appealed to the masses to promote the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi of build- ing a clean and green nation by involving in cleanliness activities and also directed the staff of Reliance Trends to keep a strict vigil on the same by not throwing the garbage of the showroom on roadside. Excelsior Correspondent JAMMU, Oct 6: Fate of the contesting candidates was sealed in ballot boxes as elections for the first-ever Jammu University Students Union (JUSU) were held today on the varsity's main campus. Counting of the votes will be later on as the Court has restrained JU from declaring the results. The next date of hearing in the case is October 9 and till then, there will be no counting of votes while on October 10, JUTA elections are scheduled to be held. The JUSU elections were con- ducted only for posts of president, vice-president and joint secretary as JU decided to postpone the elec- tions for the post of secretary fol- lowing the court's direction in favour of an aspirant to con- test. This was second and final phase of the elections and there were 12 candidates in fray for the three posts. In the first-phase, the elec- tions were held for Class Representatives (CRs) and Department Representatives (DRs) on September 25. An Executive Council of 70 members comprising 46 CRs and 24 DRs was constituted and they formed the Electoral College for the elections to office bearers of JUSU. According to a JU spokesperson, there was 100 percent polling in the second phase of elections, which were held peacefully. The ballot boxes were sealed in front of contesting candi- dates and the decision on counting of votes will be decided after the court decision. The work- shop was inaugu- rated by Rakesh Goel, Chief Engin- eer (Civil) in the presence of Sera- phina Lakra, Senior Manager (HR), Dr. Naveen Kumar, ACMO, Dr. Dheeraj Sharma, ACMO, Dr. P.L. Sharma, B.B.Kalyan, Manager (Law) and senior citi- zens of Village Bidda, Village Agharballian and Reasi. Speaking on the occasion, Goel said that information shared by doctors of NHPC about the common diseases prevalent among senior citizens and adapt- ing a life style to keep away such diseases need to be adhered to for overall fitness of the participants. He further said that aim of this workshop during observance of senior citizen’s week at Salal Power Station as to apprise the participants about the common diseases like Diabetese, Blood Pressure, Heart related diseases etc. and suggesting simple tips to remain away from such disorders as far as possible with an appropri- ate life style. DIG Central Kashmir G H Bhat addressing a press confer- ence on Friday. — Excelsior /Shakeel Braid chopping: DIG appeals people to cooperate with police Excelsior Correspondent SRINAGAR, Oct 6: Deputy Inspector General of Police, Central Kashmir, G H Bhat today appealed to the general public in particular and the families of victims of braid chopping incidents to cooperate with the police for proper investigation into the incidents. Briefing the media persons, DIG said that although there have been no formal complaints into the braid chopping inci- dents from the victims, the police has filed the cases after taking cognizance of the reports. Giving details, he said that 23 cases, all from central Kashmir, have been registered and investigation is underway in all the cases. Giving details of the braid chopping incident reported from Gulberg Colony in Srinagar, the DIG said that a female maid, a minor, has owned up to braid chopping of the victim and has been arrest- ed. He said the police depart- ment has constituted a special team headed by a lady inspector to examine the victims and investigate the case. Saying the law and order sit- uations resulting from braid chopping incidents have pre- vented the Police Department in examining the cases, the DIG appealed the people to cooper- ate and let the police investigate the incidents properly. JDA officials sealing a shop. JDA seals 61 shops in day long operation Excelsior Correspondent JAMMU, Oct 6: In a day long operation, the Jammu Development Authority (JDA) sealed 61 shops despite tough resistance from the defaulters. As per the details, JDA has launched the crackdown on the defaulters and got the survey com- pleted wherein chronic rent defaulters have been identified who owe lakhs of rupees as out- standing rent and have also violat- ed the terms and conditions of lease deed. As a sequel to it, the Vice Chairman JDA Rajesh Kumar Shavan ordered for the closure of defaulting establishments and the team of khilafwarzi section headed by Tehsildar Farooq Khan and assisted by Chief Khilafwarzi Officer Narinder Singh sealed around 59 shops at Ware House. Majority of shops were being misused in illegal manner, without paying any rent to the JDA. In cer- tain cases the monthly rent of Rs 37 per shop fixed has not been revised due to the deep rooted nexus and even this petty amount has not been paid to the JDA by the shopkeepers. In a statement, the Vice Chairman said that certain shop- keepers who were supposed to vacate the shops at Nehru Market owing to their shifting and allot- ment at Narwal Bus Stand have been illegally allowed to have unauthorized possession at Ware House. He said that some of the shopkeepers have sold the JDA property at their own by taking crores of rupees without the con- sent and approval of JDA. Thus the private persons have been allowed to transact business over JDA property without seeking any permission or paying the requisite fee. Tehsildar JDA Zone A, Kusum Chib also sealed two shops in her jurisdiction one belonging to Ashok Balgotra at Grid Station Janipur and another that of Pankaj Kumar at City Commercial Complex. People protest, block road in Sunderbani Excelsior Correspondent RAJOURI, Oct 6: The peo- ple from Baja Bain and Kangri area of Sunderbani today held protest demonstration and blocked Sunderbani-Seri Road for about two hours. The villagers were protesting against the shifting of newly cre- ated Tehsil office from Beri Pattan to some other location at Seri. This tehsil was created by adding five Panchyats from Sunderbani and two Panchyats from Nowshera. Agitated over the decision of some people in the Administration following politi- cal pressure, the people from Sunderbani area held strong protest against the move and blocked road for more than two hours. A long traffic jam was cre- ated there. Several locals of the area including Capt (Retd) Rattan Singh, Capt (Retd) Roshan Lal and Ramesh Chander addressed the gathering. Later, Tehsildar Sunderbani, Vijay Sharma and local SHO reached the spot and they paci- fied the agitating villagers. Framing of W ater Policy DB directs CS to comply with directions or appear in person Excelsior Correspondent JAMMU, Oct 6: In a con- tempt petition, Division Bench of State High Court comprising Justice Tashi Rabtsan and Justice MK Hanjura has granted final four weeks time to the State for formulation of Water Policy with the direction that Chief Secretary shall appear in person on next date of hearing in case of non-compliance. During the course of hearing, Advocates A K Sawhney and Aseem Sawhney, appearing for the petitioner, submitted that Division Bench had directed the respondents to frame the Water Policy within 2 months in February 2016 and till then maintain status quo with regard to Gair Mumkin Khad lands. "However, despite lapse of more than one year the respondents are have failed to comply with the directions on one excuse or the other", they added. After hearing both the sides, the DB observed, "affidavit in terms of order dated 25.08.2017 has been filed by Chief Secretary contending that it was decided in the meeting convened on 19.09.2017 that concerned departments will furnish their comments in light of discussions held in the meeting, within a period of one week positively. It is further contended that on receipt of comments, same will be placed before Cabinet Sub Committee in its next meeting for consideration". Mobilize all resources to supplement water supply in Jammu: Sham Excelsior Correspondent JAMMU, Oct 6: Minister for PHE, Irrigation & Flood Control Sham Lal Chaudhary convened a meeting of senior functionaries of the Department of I & FC here today. Taking depleting water sources of River Chenab into consideration, the Minister directed the officers to mobilize all the resources like draught stations, lift irrigation schemes, tube wells and other irrigation systems to supplement the water deficiency in Jammu region. The Minister asked the con- cerned officers to spread aware- ness among the public and farm- ers regarding judicious use of water and appealed to the public to use the available water amica- bly without any wastage. Pertinently, due to dry spell, the water sources of irrigation have depleted considerably to an unprecedented low level affect- ing drawal of water in Ranbir Canal, New Pratap Canal, Ranjan Canal and Pargwal Canal. The Minister directed proper distribution of water to stabilize the current situation. He asked the officers to reallocate some proportion of water in distribu- taries with adequate water level to other distributaries facing scarcity at the moment. DG Prisons inaugurates ICS at Mishriwalla Excelsior Correspondent JAMMU, Oct 6: The Director General of Police, Prisons (J&K), SK Mishra inaugurated the Institute of Correctional Services at Mishriwalla near Jammu today. The Institute shall provide basic training to the Jail staff and pre- promotion, refresher course and short-term training programmes shall also be organized in the Institute. Earlier, the Department did not have its own training institute for the staff and the subordinate staff was trained at PTA Udhampur. The DG Prisons also set open the first training pro- gramme for newly promoted Assistant Superint-endents and Head Warders which will last for two weeks. The programme will help the officers to meet the demands of the department in positions of higher responsibili- ty. The methodology that shall be adopted for conducting the course shall employ both aca- demic training as well as field training. Active pedagogic diver- sified methods such as brain storming, roles plays, case stud- ies, orientation talks and work place exercises shall be applied for training as informed by the Principal of the Institute. Speaking on the occasion the DGP Prisons, J&K emphasized that training plays a pivotal role in staff development and is the key to organizational success. He said that the nature of duties of prison staff is different compared to the Police personnel as such there was a need of having a training Institute for Jail staff to equip them with better prison management skills and also to acquaint them with recent trends in correctional services for effec- tive implementation of reforma- tion programmes for the inmates. He informed that the Department is soon going to con- duct national level residential training programmes of for Prison Officers of different states in collaboration with BPR&D. SRINAGAR, Oct 6: DeputyInspector General of Police,Central Kashmir, G H Bhattoday appealed to the generalpublic in particular and thefamilies of victims of braidchopping incidents to cooperatewith the police for properinvestigation into the incidents.

Briefing the media persons,DIG said that although therehave been no formal complaintsinto the braid chopping inci-dents from the victims, thepolice has filed the cases aftertaking cognizance of thereports. Giving details, he saidthat 23 cases, all from centralKashmir, have been registeredand investigation is underway

JDA seals 61 shops inday long operation

JAMMU, Oct 6: In a day longoperation, the JammuDevelopment Authority (JDA)sealed 61 shops despite toughresistance from the defaulters.

As per the details, JDA haslaunched the crackdown on thedefaulters and got the survey com-pleted wherein chronic rentdefaulters have been identifiedwho owe lakhs of rupees as out-standing rent and have also violat-ed the terms and conditions oflease deed. As a sequel to it, theVice Chairman JDARajesh KumarShavan ordered for the closure ofdefaulting establishments and theteam of khilafwarzi section headedby Tehsildar Farooq Khan andassisted by Chief KhilafwarziOfficer Narinder Singh sealedaround 59 shops at Ware House.

Majority of shops were beingmisused in illegal manner, withoutpaying any rent to the JDA. In cer-tain cases the monthly rent of Rs37 per shop fixed has not beenrevised due to the deep rootednexus and even this petty amounthas not been paid to the JDAby theshopkeepers.

In a statement, the ViceChairman said that certain shop-keepers who were supposed tovacate the shops at Nehru Marketowing to their shifting and allot-ment at Narwal Bus Stand havebeen illegally allowed to haveunauthorized possession at WareHouse. He said that some of theshopkeepers have sold the JDA

property at their own by takingcrores of rupees without the con-sent and approval of JDA. Thusthe private persons have beenallowed to transact business overJDA property without seeking anypermission or paying the requisitefee.

Tehsildar JDA Zone A, KusumChib also sealed two shops in herjurisdiction one belonging toAshok Balgotra at Grid StationJanipur and another that of PankajKumar at City CommercialComplex. People protest, block road in Sunderbani

RAJOURI, Oct 6: The peo-ple from Baja Bain and Kangriarea of Sunderbani today heldprotest demonstration andblocked Sunderbani-Seri Roadfor about two hours.

The villagers were protestingagainst the shifting of newly cre-ated Tehsil office from BeriPattan to some other location atSeri. This tehsil was created byadding five Panchyats fromSunderbani and two Panchyatsfrom Nowshera.

Agitated over the decision ofsome people in theAdministration following politi-

cal pressure, the people fromSunderbani area held strongprotest against the move andblocked road for more than twohours. A long traffic jam was cre-ated there. Several locals of thearea including Capt (Retd) RattanSingh, Capt (Retd) Roshan Laland Ramesh Chander addressedthe gathering.

During the course of hearing,Advocates A K Sawhney andAseem Sawhney, appearing forthe petitioner, submitted thatDivision Bench had directed therespondents to frame the WaterPolicy within 2 months inFebruary 2016 and till thenmaintain status quo with regardto Gair Mumkin Khad lands."However, despite lapse of morethan one year the respondents

are have failed to comply withthe directions on one excuse orthe other", they added.

Taking depleting watersources of River Chenab intoconsideration, the Ministerdirected the officers to mobilizeall the resources like draughtstations, lift irrigation schemes,tube wells and other irrigationsystems to supplement the waterdeficiency in Jammu region.

The Minister asked the con-cerned officers to spread aware-ness among the public and farm-ers regarding judicious use ofwater and appealed to the public

to use the available water amica-bly without any wastage.

Pertinently, due to dry spell,the water sources of irrigationhave depleted considerably to anunprecedented low level affect-ing drawal of water in RanbirCanal, New Pratap Canal,Ranjan Canal and PargwalCanal.

The Minister directed properdistribution of water to stabilizethe current situation. He askedthe officers to reallocate someproportion of water in distribu-taries with adequate water levelto other distributaries facingscarcity at the moment.

JAMMU, Oct 6: TheDirector General of Police,Prisons (J&K), SK Mishrainaugurated the Institute ofCorrectional Services atMishriwalla near Jammu today.

The Institute shall providebasic training to the Jail staffand pre- promotion, refreshercourse and short-term trainingprogrammes shall also beorganized in the Institute.

Earlier, the Department did nothave its own training institutefor the staff and the subordinatestaff was trained at PTAUdhampur. The DG Prisons alsoset open the first training pro-gramme for newly promotedAssistant Superint-endents andHead Warders which will lastfor two weeks. The programmewill help the officers to meet thedemands of the department inpositions of higher responsibili-ty.

The methodology that shallbe adopted for conducting thecourse shall employ both aca-demic training as well as fieldtraining. Active pedagogic diver-sified methods such as brainstorming, roles plays, case stud-

ies, orientation talks and workplace exercises shall be appliedfor training as informed by thePrincipal of the Institute.

Speaking on the occasion theDGP Prisons, J&K emphasizedthat training plays a pivotal rolein staff development and is thekey to organizational success. Hesaid that the nature of duties ofprison staff is different comparedto the Police personnel as suchthere was a need of having atraining Institute for Jail staff to

equip them with better prisonmanagement skills and also toacquaint them with recent trendsin correctional services for effec-tive implementation of reforma-tion programmes for the inmates.
