Media Plan Situation Analysis: Residents of the Champlain

Valley do not know how to sufficiently help loved ones and neighbors who are suffering from mental illness or are unaware that they might be affected by mental illness.

What will media accomplish? Motivate members of the community to build awareness of

mental illness in the Champlain Valley

Stimulate members of the community to become involved in helping themselves and helping to meet the mental health needs of their loved ones and neighbors

Selection Criteria: Media were selected based on their ability to reach our three target audiences. For all audiences we will use media that reach Clinton, Franklin, and/or Essex counties because they make up the service area of NAMI:CV.

People suffering from mental illness. Most often, severe mental illnesses are diagnosed in young people between 16 and 25 years of age. Because of this we will use media that primarily reach adolescents and young adults in this age range to deliver our message to people suffering from mental illness.

Families of people suffering from mental illness. Because

most people suffering from mental illnesses are young adults, this campaign needs to reach such crucial family members as parents, grandparents, siblings, and other caregivers We will be using media that reach audiences over the age of 25 to reach this audience.

Community leaders. Because this audience is made up of professionals such as local elected and government officials, spiritual leaders, corporate directors, business owners and operators in the Champlain Valley, we will be targeting them through business and professional related media as well as media that target middle range and older adult audiences.
