Fundraiser The SRC will be running a fundraiser on the Thursday the 31st of August to raise awareness and funds in support of people facing homelessness and disadvantage in South Australia. ‘Walk a mile in my boots’ is a walk organised by the Hutt Street Centre and takes place every year during National Homelessness Prevention Week. As well as a gold coin donation, the school will be walking a mile (20 minutes) on the 31st of August to support this charity.

Friendship Corner UpdateThe Friendship Corner concept is being finalised and by Week 4 we should be able to proceed. The winning design can be seen outside Mrs Ballard’s office.

SRC and Book WeekThe SRC will be working with a buddy classes on an activity in preparation for Book Week. The SRC reps will choose an animal origami for each student in their class and buddy class to make. Each class will have a different origami animal and the origami animals will be used to create a larger image. The images will be presented at the Book Week assembly. Before School Care Bookings

If you need care for your child/ren in Before School Care it is very important that you book your child/ren in on the previous day. Under the National Education and Care Law and Regulations we have very strict ratios of staff:children which need to be adhered to. If we, as a service, do not adhere to these Regulations we run the risk of large fines. If we are at our capacity and you have not booked your child/ren in for Before School Care we may have to turn you away. If you notify the service before 6pm via a phone call to the service landline the day before we will be able to organise more staff to work.If families are unable to book casual care, the service will have to look at raising the fee for casual walk ins to the service.

Vacation Care

Thanks to everyone who attended Vacation Care. We would love to hear what you thought of the program. Please let us know via our comments book next to the sign in sheet, via email or by talking to a staff member. Lauren Ryder, NPS OSHC Director [email protected]

Book Week

Book Week is a national celebration of books written and illustrated for children by Australian authors and illustrators. This year’s theme ‘Escape to everywhere’ will encourage students at Nailsworth to have fun reading, being creative, performing and dressing-up! Our annual Parade will be on Friday 25th August at the start of the day, followed by a whole school assembly. Now is the time for students to start thinking about a costume that will allow them to be creative, to be a book character for the day or to escape to another time or place! Have fun! More details to come! From the Library

The students in Year 4, Room 16, learnt about Aboriginal culture in History. For Design and Technologies they had to research and design an Aboriginal shelter and then construct a scaled model. They look amazing and the students had fun and did a great job. The models are on display outside Mrs Ballard’s office if you would like to see them.Jodie Ralph, Class Teacher [email protected]

School 2017 Sports Day

7th September 2017

As a result of positive parent/guardian, student and staff feedback, the school has decided to again hold our annual Sports Day on Broadview Oval, Poltawa Terrace, Broadview. The date is Thursday the 7th September. The need for a venue that can accommodate our competing school community all at once, whilst offering ample spectator space, was the number one priority.

The Broadview Oval administrators have again been most supportive of our school conducting our Sports Day on their oval and facilities (toilets). The grounds will allow all students to be competing across a large number of age appropriate activities all at once. It should be quite a spectacle.

Please note that although there is a venue change it will be a normal school Sports Day, where rules of attendance and behaviour still apply. Supervision by staff will occur and there will be a recess and lunch break. Students will need to be at Broadview Oval at 8:30am to prepare for their day. Dismissal will be from 3:05pm. It will be the responsibility of parents/guardians to transport students to the oval and collect them at the end of the day. More details will be provided closer to the date but please note 07/09/2017 on your calendars as a day to come and spectate at the Nailsworth Primary School 2017 Sports Day.

Nominations for the forthcoming summer 2017/18 season are now being taken and will be submitted to EDNA by last mail on Friday 11th August. The season will commence on Friday 20th October and will conclude in Term 1 of 2018.

Current players please speak with your coach if you will be continuing on for next season. Year 7 players going off to High School need to be committed to finishing the season in 2018 if interested in playing. Players with outstanding fees will not be eligible to nominate for next season. Please finalise your outstanding accounts as soon as possible.

If your child is turning 8 this year or in 2018, and is interested in playing netball for the school, could you please indicate your interest to the Front Office or to me personally over in the Library or via email. There must be a minimum of 8 players to submit a new team and someone available to coach and manage them. Games are played on Friday evenings at either Phillis Street (Maylands), Emery Road (Campbelltown) or Lothian Avenue (Holden Hill) netball courts.

Fees for the summer season will be $50.00 and $40.00 for subsequent children and can be paid to Julie Chambers in the Finance Office.

Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any queries.
