This week we celebrated NAIDOC week. We began by learning about the meaning behind and importance of celebrating the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. We explored this years theme: Because of her, we can!, which honours Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women who have played – and continue to play - active and significant roles at the community, local, state and national levels. We then read the explanation about this years NAIDOC week poster, painted by Cheryl Moggs. We learnt about the meaning behind the three sections of painting which represent, the stories of the stars, connection to country and connection to waterways. The explanation of the painting was confronting and powerful and taught us so much from reading about the significance of each intricate and purposeful detail. Some of our Year Fours also produced beautiful entries for our whole school NAIDOC week art competition. NAIDOC WEEK In Year Four
