• Present loads consist of Perishables - best density ex Mumbai and

Pakistan flights with Mangos, Pharma and Department of Health

related products. This is a good source of income for forwraders.

Cargo rates during covid 19

• The current pricing is almost 3 times above than

the pre Covid-19 situation. The UAE governments is

trying its best to reduce any inflation and especially

in the food sector with a monitoring gauge and fines if

basic goods are over priced during Covid 19

pandemic. This is to ensure all residents have food

access at competitive rates.

• Turkish airlines /Air France KLM and BA continue

their Passenger to Cargo operation to all the Indian

airports, with full loads in/out bound

• UAE has two of top ten global airlines to serve you,

Emirates and Etihad. Both airlines have been

supported by the government during Covid 19. All

this is a great support to the forwarding business and

to ensuring we have goods available at our finger tips

even during the pandemic.

Sea Cargo during covid 19

• As for the sea freight the UAE connectivity has been a key factor in ensuring vital supplies reach global markets.

• DP World ,manages more than 78 port terminals globally in 50 countries. Jebel Ali is the 9th larges port globally.

• DP World Dubai Ports are using high automation, single window, digitalization and smart services long before Covid 19, which made it easier when everything had to be done online due to covid 19. Business was as ususal with our ports in the UAE.

• Some support storage area is also an initiative by DP World to support forwarders during covid.

• LSCI- Liner shipping connectivity Index-indicated that the UAE has the highest global maritime trade network among all countries in the Middle East, Africa, West Asia, S. Asia regions.

In relation to land transit cargo via Saudi and the UAE:

• Ministry of foreign affairs of Saudi announced that the use of Saudi as transit for their trucks and due to COVID 19 here are some precautions taken by KSA, the General Customs Authority will reduce the number of transit trucks via Saudi land borders and will be limited to Food stuff, medical and Emergency cargo only. (Others should be shipped via Sea freight/ air freight)

• All drivers are to undergo medical checkup at borders (anyone positive/symptoms – will be sent back)

• All drivers must get the necessary visa via the KSA Consulates and Embassies and not at borders as done previously.

• Transit drivers will be given 96 hours to exit KSA after entry while adhering to tracking systems, and any penalties for late drivers as per standard customs procedures.

KSA - Others:

• As far as Trailers entering from Jordan to Saudi, it will be limited to Saudi & Jordanian drivers that have a valid residency visa and general transport license in KSA only

• Allowing all trucks to enter KSA via the Saudi Port without drivers however will be subject to full sterilization from the port authority and ministry of health.

• It has been recommended to send goods by sea or air during this pandemic to reduce delays and to avoid any rejections at boarders.

As for UAE:

• Medical supplies and food trucks are allowed in with cargo.

• Similarly the neighboring countries apply the same rules during Covid 19, boarder medical checks are conduscted.

IHC-International Humanitarian City

• The UAE has a long track record of humanitarian assistance and generosity. In December 2019, the government revealed that AED28 billion was distributed in 2018 in global aid to support 42 countries, highlighting the extent of the nation’s humanitarian efforts.

• WHO, WFP have big base here from Dubai and exports most of their requirements out of Dubai Humanitarian city. (80% of their foreign aid requirements is mainly exported out of the UAE logistics hub in IHC)

• The UAE has send aid to more than 50 countries during covid 19. WHO has send aid to more than 100 countries via the UAE Intl humanitarian city.

What is force majeure?

Force majeure (FM) is a provision in many service contracts that describes the conditions under which a provider can be relieved of liability for non-performance, based on events that are beyond the provider's control.

In general – don’t expect your package to arrive on time, but you can expect your

package to arrive barring regulatory actions.

Forwarders and suppliers/traders need to re-check their contracts during covid 19

and seek legal advice how they can protect themselves against any liabilities.

Post Covid 19 Forecast - Air Cargo Industry

• Many airlines may file bankruptcy

• Especially airlines that have leased aircrafts

• Airlines with high government funding during Covid 19 will survive and continue

• Realistically, it will be a U-shaped recovery post covid 19 with domestic travel coming back faster than the international market. Less demand for luxury goods, travel, tourism, real estate.

• More than half of all passenger revenues may disappear. That would be a $314 billion hit. Several governments have stepped up with new or expanded financial relief measures, but the situation remains critical.

• Airlines could burn through $61 billion of cash reserves in the second quarter alone. That puts at risk 25 million jobs dependent on aviation. And without urgent relief, many airlines will not survive to lead the economic recovery. (Source: IATA)

Dubai Plan 2021 in action in 2020

It is distinguishing six themes: (1) The People: “A City of Happy, Creative & Empowered People”; (2) The Society: “An Inclusive & Cohesive Society”; (3) The Experience: “The Preferred Place to Live, Work & Visit”; (4) The Place: “A Smart & Sustainable City”; (5) The Economy: “A Pivotal Hub in the Global Economy”; and (6) The Government: “A Pioneering and Excellent Government”. It is explicitly formulated that Dubai aspires to be the world’s number one in many or all of these subject areas.

During Covid-19 all infected persons are treated by the government of the UAE free of charge, food supplies are given and corporate rents are postponed, utility bills reduced by 10% and stimulus packages for the industry has been offered.

The police, armed forces, health authorities and many volunteers work day and night to ensure all residnets of the UAE are safe and taken care of.

More than 15 million meals have been distributed in the UAE.

Education and work has been conducted online.

All the above to ensure the UAE has happy residents as part of the country’s strategy. A strategy to have the smartest city in the world by 2021 has been implemented due to covid 19 in 2020.

Sterilization has been conducted in all public places and transport areas.All protection measures are being strictly followed to ensure there is Control over the virus spread. The rulers have been reassuring the citizens that things will be better and that we have enough food and medical supplies and there is no need to panic.
