CHILD SAFETY STANDARDS The Victorian Government is committed to the safety and wellbeing of all children and young people. As part of the Victorian Government's commitment to implementing the recommendations of the Betrayal of Trust report, which found that more must be done to prevent and respond to child abuse in our community, there is a new regulatory landscape surrounding child safety, underpinned by the new Child Safe Standards. The Child Safe Standards are compulsory minimum standards for all Victorian early childhood services and schools, to ensure they are well prepared to protect children from abuse and neglect. From our recent School Review, there were a couple of areas we need to address. These included: - informing our school community of our Child Safety Practices; - Child Safety Standards being standing agenda items for School Council and Staff meetings; - providing professional learning to School Councilors to ensure they understand their roles and responsibilities in this area; and - develop a Child Safety Standards Risk Management Plan. Actions have been implemented to address these areas. Some examples: - there is a Child Safety Standards section on our website; - newsletter updates; - School Council have endorsed undertaking professional learning in Child Safety Standards and policies will be reviewed and ratified
annually as of 2019; and - more posters on display around the school. To find out more about the Child Safe Standards visit the Protect Website at: https://www.education.vic.gov.au/about/ programs/health/protect/Pages/default.aspx
Last Friday all students received a note about what they are required to wear for this year’s concert. Please do not go to
any big expense in sourcing these items. I wanted to give you enough time to find what your child /ren need to wear. If you have any questions please come and see me or Mrs Opie.
Concert practice is full steam ahead with Mrs Monk very happy with the progress of the students at this point in time. Details of the concert and presentations is attached to this newsletter. This coming Friday 7th December is our traditional Whole School Christmas Lunch. Students and staff go over to the Kialla Hall to enjoy roast lunch and dessert kindly donated and hosted by our hard working Parents’ Club. Students only need to bring their usual morning tea on Friday. If your child is not going to be at school on Friday please let Mrs Irwin or myself know by Wednesday 5th December for catering purposes. This is a very special and unique experience for our school. Thank you to Parents’ Club and the extra helpers on the day.
Tuesday 11th December is a State- wide Orientation Day. Our Grade 6s head off to their Secondary School for

the day. At Kialla Central Primary School, our new Foundation students and other new students come along to familiarise themselves with our school and meet their buddy. All of our current students will spend the day in their 2019 class with their classroom teacher. As you are aware we are operating F/1 class and a 1/2 class next year. Semester 2 Reports will be sent home next Friday 14th December. New students who
have arrived this Semester will receive our Report Folder and everyone else will get their reports in an envelop to then put into their Report Folder. We pride ourselves on keeping parents informed about your child’s progress and/or concerns throughout the year. Parent/Teacher interviews are by request. Our Grade 6 Graduation celebrations are being held on Thursday 13th December. Invitations have been sent home, the theme and menu has been set by the Grade 6s and plans are well underway to ensure a memorable night for our graduates. K.C.P.S.’ graduation is a unique experience for our Grade 6 students. They share tea with the staff in the Library. We have a formal presentation, “Primary School Memories and Future Dreams”, for family and friends and we finish with supper. Parents’ Club kindly organise the catering and a Graduation Bear for each of our Grade 6s.
