KIALLA CENTRAL PRIMARY SCHOOL NEWSLETTER Page 3

Last week we held our Parent / Teacher Interviews for our Foundation and new students and for students requiring an

Education Learning Plan. We also held our Student Support Group meetings. Thank you to all of our families who attended these interviews and meetings, as the link between school and home and home and school is vital in supporting your child’s education. I would also like to thank our teachers for their dedication and time in this process. On Friday 9th March we hosted our combined Curriculum Day with Kialla West. Michelle Hutchison the founder of the SMART Spelling Approach was our facilitator. It was a very practical and hands on day as we extended our knowledge of SMART Spelling and the new resources Michelle has developed, we also made connections on how to ensure the strategies are transferred into reading, writing and other subject areas. It was a very beneficial day!

Hosting a curriculum day also requires organising catering. Our ever reliable Parents’ Club came to the rescue and prepared a magnificent spread for the day. Thank you to Annette Hunt, Stacey Rae, Deanne Moulsdale, Kelly Stapleton, Amy Keat, Tracy Blake and Lisa Irwin. We are hosting our Kialla Central House Athletics

this Friday 16th March. Students are en-couraged to wear their house colours:

Archer ~ Blue Fairmaid ~ Green Mitchell ~ Yellow

Please keep in mind we are a Sunsmart school so students are not allowed to wear singlets and broad brimmed hats are compulsory. It is a normal school day starting at 8.50am, our

bus and OSHC will operate as per usual. Our first event will start at 9.30am and we will be finished by 1.30pm. Students will go back into their classrooms for the afternoon session. Recess and lunch time will be decided on the day based on how quickly we progress through our events. Parents, carers and families are welcome to attend this event. We may need a couple of helpers for some of our events. Our House Athletics is a great day which all of our students enjoy. It is about having a go and trying your best!

GO ARCHER! GO FAIRMAID! GO MITCHELL!

On Friday 23rd March, we participate in the East Goulburn Primary School Sports Association Athletics Carnival at McEwen Reserve. The day offers our students a great opportunity to try their best against students from 10 other small schools, whilst building confidence and having fun. The cost of the day is $8.00 per family, which is part of our Excursions Levy. It is a very busy and tiring day but rewarding too. The older students can qualify for the next level of competition which leads on to Division, Regional, State and National events.

Our school bus will NOT run on this day. Students are to go directly to John McEwen Reserve. Parents / Carers are responsible for their transport.

Students need to: - be at the John McEwen Reserve by 9:00am. - wear school polo & school shorts. Students can also wear black sports shorts; - wear comfortable runners / sneakers; - bring KCPS jumper or tracksuit jacket; - have 3 safety pins ~ 2 pins for record card

& 1 for ribbons; - have named drink bottle; - have sunscreen; and - provide their own lunch and snacks for the day.

Students are responsible for looking after their hats & drink bottles between events. Please make sure these are clearly named.

The 5/6 year olds are the only age group who have a morning tea break which is from 10.05am to 10.40am because they don’t do Triple Jump. All other age groups only have a lunch break at 12.00pm to 12.30pm. The under 10s, 11s, 12s/13s year old girls and boys can participate in the 800m during the lunch break.

Each family will be given a EGPSSA’s Program. It is very informative and provides: a map of the oval and a timetable of events for age groups. Please note: that students are grouped according to the age they turn this year. So even if they turn 8 in December of this year then they are in the 8 age group not their current age of 7. Record cards will be given out to our students as they arrive at the Reserve.

Each school is given an event to manage and an age group or 2 to look after for the day. The canteen is on a rotating system giving all schools the opportunity to raise some money for their school. This year we are in charge of Long Jump as well as supervising the 5/6 and the 11 year-old girls groups.

There is a canteen available; however, we encour-age our students to take their lunch as our lunch break is only short ~ 30 minutes and the lines are usually very long.

All students are required to be picked up from McEwen Reserve by 2.30pm sharp. This is at the conclusion of the relays.

Thank you to those families who have already offered to help for EGPSSA day. We still need a few more helpers to ensure our younger students have a familiar face with their group and that our event is run efficiently and effectively. I will send home a confirmed helpers roster next week along with the EGPSSA’s program. All students are expected to attend this event as it is part of our curriculum. Please see me if your child is going to be absent or if you have any questions.

Our School Council Annual General Meeting and General meeting are on Monday 19th March

commencing at 7.00pm. School Council operates under a legislative framework within the Victorian government school system. They play a key role in: - supporting the principal to provide the best possible educational outcomes for students; - school accountability and improvement processes, and - the endorsement of key school planning, evaluation and reporting documents. The Grade 6 polos should be here next week. There was a delay in getting a couple of the sizes. Sorry for the delay.

Thank you to Alan Keat for mowing in our running tracks for our Kialla Central P.S. House Athletics and for watering our

front gardens and grass. Thank you also to Peter Blake who did some maintenance on our jumping pit in preparation for our athletics day. Every year Bovine Inseminations send us a $150 sponsorship as ongoing support to our school. This commitment from Bovine started in 1999 and benefits 35 schools in our area. This money will go towards an upcoming project I have for our Junior School Council. I would like to acknowledge the ongoing kind generosity of Bovine Inseminations.

The end of term is approaching quickly. This term we finish on Thursday 29th March as Good Friday is on 30th March. School Council endorses earlier dismissals of 2.15pm for Terms 1, 2 and 3 and then a 1.30pm dismissal for Term 4. Our bus still operates, however, the drop off times are an hour earlier. Our Outside School Hours Program also operates but finishes at 4.30pm Terms 1, 2 and 3. Our OSHC service will not operate on Friday 21st December, the last day of the school year. The Important Stuff ... How to Enter:

1. Obtain the draw for the week, there will be one attached to the newsletter or if you need more than one let Mrs. Opie know ~ she’s in charge of extras.

2. Circle who you think will win.

3. Think of a code name, if you wish.

4. The first time you use a code name please put your name on the sheet as well.

5. Return your entry (with winners marked) to the school by 9.00am of the game day.

The Rules:

1. Every entry must have a name on it. Don’t forget you can use ‘code’ names but make sure that Mrs. Opie knows who you are!

2. Entries must be received at the school by the date and time specified on the draw for each week and must be paid for.

3. The cost is $23.00. You may like to pay for the entire season in advance or $10.00 upfront and then $13.00 by Round 10.

4. Winnings each week are split between those tipsters who pick 9 winners (draws are excluded). If nobody picks 9 winners then the prize pool will jackpot to the next week

5. The jackpot cannot be claimed on a draw and nobody will receive points for the draw unless you specifically pick it.

6. The prize pool will be determined by the number of entries received each week. The prize pool is determined on a 50%/40%/10% split - 50% of the money goes to the school - 40% to those who tip all 9 winners and 10% for the end of season prizes. At the end of the season, the 10% will be distributed as follows: the person who picks most winners for the season receives 50% of the prize pool. 2nd will receive 30%, 3rd will receive 5%. 5% will go towards getting the wooden spoon trophy engraved. The more people that enter, the larger the return.

7. If you have paid in advance but forget to put your tips in for that week, you will be given the away teams, but if all away teams win you will not be entitled to the jackpot.

8. In the event of a drawn game you will not receive a point unless you pick a draw.

9. Where there are rounds of only 6 games you must tip all 6 games correctly in 2 consecutive weeks to be eligible to collect the jackpot.

10. Results of each week and the balance of the prize pool will be published weekly in the newsletter.

Remember, there are no losers in our competition

Everyone is a winner … and not just for their tipping ability!!

Good Tipping Everyone!!

K.C.P.S. Footy Tipping Competition 2018

Talking Footy with Bomber 10

Well all you Footy Tipping Fans and non Footy Fans alike, it’s that time of the year again when you can put all your football knowledge together to try and win KCPS’ now famous Footy Tipping Competition or win our equally famous “Wooden Spoon” which can be just as hard to win. You do not need to know a lot about the footy to do well as sometimes a little bit of knowledge in footy can be a hindrance.

For those who don’t know, Bomber 10 is Heather Adderly, our retired Outside School Hours Care Co-ordinator. Heather is a passionate Bomber’s supporter and will help with the footy tipping until she heads north to warmer weather during winter.

There are only 8 sleeps until the first ball is bounced to start the 2018 AFL Footy Season.

To join our Footy Tipping Competition just pay $23:00 per tipper at the start of the season or you can pay $10:00 upfront and the remaining $13:00 by round 10. It is that simple.

At the end of term 3 the school hosts a Footy Day where the winners are announced & prize money awarded. New Tippers are most welcome and all profits go to the school so sign up and join in the fun. The more the merrier!

For all those new to the school and to those who have not joined in before the KCPS Footy Tipping Competition has become a tradition here at Kialla Central Primary School. Our Footy Tipping Competition is a fundraiser for the school and a lot of fun is had along the way.

Bomber 10 looks forward to receiving the children’s colourful footy tipping sheets and any other written comments such as when anyone is going to the footy or any challenge made with “Miss H” when her beloved “Magpies” are beaten by your team. Just beware that you may have to wear her “Magpie” scarf for a week at school if your team loses.
