Love history? Have a special interest in decorative arts, the Victorian era, architecture, or antiques? You will enjoy guiding visitors back in time to 1895 to explore the Bringhurst family’s turn-of-the-century lifestyle at Rockwood. This rural Gothic home was built in the early 1850’s by Joseph Shipley, a Wilmington native, and purchased by Sarah Shipley Bringhurst, his niece, in 1890. The rooms at Rockwood represent the way the house looked between 1895 and 1901, the early years of the Bringhurst occupancy.
Volunteers are needed to help: Be a costumed tour guide Assist with one-time projects or special events Help set up special exhibits Research the collection and archival records Garden in the formal garden and surrounding 72 acres

and to lend a hand in setting up special ongoing exhibits in the museum.

other aspects of the collection and local history. Volunteer discounts at the museum gift shop. Field trips provided quarterly to other museums for continuing education and socializing with other Rockwood Museum volunteers. Yearly appreciation dinner for all museum volunteers.

Connecting Generations
Every year mentors and students are making connections that make a difference. Well, we like to ask….Who men-
tored You? How many times have you thought to yourself that you should volunteer because you would like to make a difference in someone’s life,
too? Creative Mentoring is a great opportunity for you to do all that and more. We’re all about inspiring youth and improving future generations.
Mentoring helps children achieve success in school and life by helping to build self-esteem, self-confidence, interpersonal communication skills, social values, aspirations and school engage-ment. Through personal one-on-one time in schools, mentors work with students to develop
their unique qualities and to reach their full potential.
We find that mentors get as much out of the relationship as the students. Come join us and make a difference in the life of a student!
