Introduction
► District comprises 7 administrative divisions –
Mysuru, Tirumakudalu Narasipura, Nanjangud,
Heggadadevanakote, Hunsur, Piriyapatna and
Krishnarajanagara
► Second largest software exporter of Karnataka
► Major producer of pulses, cotton and tobacco
► One of the best investment destinations due to
proximity and connectivity to Bengaluru and
nearby areas
► Prosperous district based on the development
and utilization of irrigation facilities and
abundance of forest wealth
► Rich in resources such as Limestone,
Graphite, Quartz, Magnesite and Dolomite
Mysuru district is located in the. It has a prominent place in the history of
Karnataka. Previously known as Mysore state, it was ruled by the Wodeyars
from the year 1399 till the independence of India in 1947. Prior to 1998, Mysore
district also contained the Chamarajanagar district before that area was
separated.
The original name of the Mysore city was Mahishapura, derived from a
demon’s name.

Amba Vilas, popularly
known as Mysore Palace, is
one of the largest palaces in
India and the residence of
the Wodeyar Maharaja of
Mysuru. The light and sound
show and palace
illumination during State
festivals are the key
attractions.

Ranganathittu Bird Sanctuary
Chamundeshwari temple is a hilltop shrine
situated on Chamundi hills. It is dedicated to
goddess Chamundeshwari Devi and built in
Dravidian style. Besides this, monolith statue
of ‘Nandi’ which is enroute, is also a key
attraction.
It is one of the tallest and oldest
cathedral in India, built in
Gothic style. It has a crypt that
houses a beautiful statue,
acquired from France, of Saint
Philomena, a 3rd century saint
from Greece.
It is a beautiful terrace garden developed near the Krishnaraja
Sagar reservoir. It displays a orientation of Mughal garden and
comprises children park, a fisheries station and hydraulic
research station. Light and sound show in evening is an added
attraction.
Chamarajendra Zoological
Garden, also known as
Mysuru Zoo, attracts more
than 3 million visitors every
year. It has a museum, library
and facilities like battery
operated vehicles for visitors.

It is situated near Srirangapatna. It is an
island on the river Cauvery. The islands
host numerous mammals and migratory
birds. The best time to visit this sanctuary is
between June – November.
