My family members Dad was easy going,hard worker, and

sometimes he would get upset

Family ChoresAfter we ate we had to clean dishes.

Other chores we had to do were to mowlawn,shovel sidewalks,and clean my room

I went to games, but wasn't interested insports. I started working at age 13 andearned 40 cents an hour.

n' Shake, we would tease the waitressesasking for a Pine Float(water with a toothpick).

Newspaper Fame

Yes,a couple times. One time I took a bikeride with my brother to New York in 1953and rode 1,976 miles. I rode up through

Canada,Niagara Falls,New York and theStatue of Liberty,Washington D.C. And sawthe White House,back through Ohio andstayed with relatives, and then back to

Illinois.

Some more Newspaper Fame

I picked up a house and moved it from CourtStreet to Waldren Road. Recently I was inthe paper for building a Victorian style play

house. In 1964 one of the homes we builtand lived in made the paper as home of theweek.

My job during High School

I worked at Rudy's IGA Store. I was a stockboy and carried out grocery's. One job wasto clean the produce paper from banana

boxes. One day out of the corner of myeye I saw a big hairy tarantula. My friendand I caught it and my friend took it homeas a pet.

After High School and Beyond

Right after High School I worked at aplumbing company. That is where Ilearned a lot that I later used in my building

career. In 1953 I went into the army duringthe Korean War and served in Europe andwas stationed in Austria as a cook. Oneday I took my bike out and took the bridge

over the Blue Danube bridge and found outI had entered the Russian Territory.

The love of my life

The first time I met my future bride was at mysisters apartment, she set us up on our firstdate. I thought she was a heartthrob and it

was love at first sight. On dates we went tothe movies, church, and amusement parks.

Wedding Bells

We were married on August 31, 1957 at theold First Church of the Nazarene at thecorner of Oak and Wildwood in Kankakee.

It was very hot on that day. I had a doublewedding with my sister Carol. We had abig arch covered with white and purplegladiolas.

The Honeymoon

My honeymoon was at Niagara Falls. Whenwe were going to the falls we saw a caraccident and a man was sitting in the road

with his leg cut off. My wife brought an ironwith her and left it turned on and burned thetable. We stayed for two nights. When weheaded back to town it was the beginning

of a life time of bliss. We just celebratedour 54th wedding anniversary.

My profession

I worked 35 years at Armstrong Tile Factoryby necessity. My building career was bychoice and something I love to do.

My accomplishments have been the manyhomes that I have built over the years.
