The straw challengeReflection
The Straw Challenge
is a fun and instructive design exercise that encourages teams to experience simple but profound lessons in collaboration, innovation and creativity.
Objective: in eighteen minutes, teams must build the tallest free-standing structure out of straws and lots of creativity.
Instructions:
1. Build the tallest freestanding structure measured from the table top surface to the top of the structure.

STUDENT REFLECTION1. Did we achieve the objective? Yes/no? Why?2. How was my individual performance? 3. How was the performance of the whole team?4. How can we be better? 5. What was the biggest challenge?6. What does team work mean?7. Why team work is important?8. What are the attitudes and behaviors I need
to maintain to be successful working with my team?
9. Did you apply the design cycle? Explain10. What would you do to improve the challenge?
REFLECTION Team work will be key for the success in our projects
When working with a project we need to: Put our passion and knowledge to work with that of the
rest of the team Identify real customer needs
Consider the resources we have : time, skills, materials
Apply properly the design cycle : Investigate, Design, Plan, Create and Evaluate

Instructions:
Choose a leader The rest of the team leave the room Leader receive instructions Rest of the team are blindfolded Leader builds a tower with two plastics

How was my individual performance? How was the performance as a team? How was the leader’s performance?
What was the most challenging part?
What means working in teams? Why is team work important?
What are the attitudes and behaviors I need to maintain to be successful working with my team?

our senses to the task and applying the very best of our thinking, feeling and doing to
the challenge”
