J Coles sideline story uses the colours red/black/white. The colour black is a colour which is suited with any theme and helps to amplify themes portrayed in the album. The colour red is normally used to show love but in this sense it conveys the theme of anger/danger which shows that he has a serious message to portray in his lyrics. The fact that he’s in a changing room and wearing ‘Jordans’ helps remind the audience that he has a passion for basketball. The back cover helps to emphasise the name of the mixtape ‘Sideline Story’ as it has him sitting down on the side as if he was watching/listening to someone (himself) telling a story. The colours white and red also helps to represent ROCNATION logo as the colour scheme emphasises the logo and the colour scheme of the track list on the back also relates to ROCNATION and to what he is wearing.

Lil ‘ Wayne uses a theme of black and white to portray the contrast between sin and purity. With his face being white and his eyes being closed, it gives the impression of him praying as the first track is called ‘ready for the world’ it helps amplify the fact that he is getting ready for what is about to happen. The use of all 3 colours also shows the diversity that he has, as the tracks all vary from different sort of stories as some are about ‘sex’, some about ‘life’ and other stories being told.

The theme of black and white on the picture of Lil Wayne helps to emphasise the name of the album: “White Album”. The black background on the album also shows the contrast of pure and impure which also helps to amplify his song choices

The red normally represents ‘love/blood/danger/anger’ which again helps to amplify what Lil Wayne is trying to portray in the songs he is doing. It also helps to show that Lil Wayne is one of a kind as his name is in red which makes it unique and stands out from everything else of the CD and cover as it is in a larger font. The red also shows that culture that Lil Wayne comes from, as in America he is part of a crew ‘bloodset’ which is represented by the colour red.

Jay-Z is the founder of ROCNATION and released ‘The Blueprint 3’ under ROCNATION. The ROCNATION logo

uses the colour red for the logo and the letters ‘R’.’O’,’C’ and the CD has 3 stripes in red which will help loyal fans of Jay-Z know that it is from ROCNATION. The colour red is also in 3 stripes with a white background. This follows the convention

of ‘Hip-Hop/Rnb’ CD covers which normally use these colours to show purity/honesty in the artist and tells us that

what the artist is saying is ‘real’. The red normally symbolises blood/danger that the artist has felt or portraying in the lyrics. 3 stripes also show that this is the 3rd blueprint.

The colour scheme is plain and simple and unique, and this helps to represent the artist as being one of a kind and also being down to earth. It shows that he is

able to relate to people and vice-versa.
