Elizabeth Cafferty Gender Advisor WHS secretariatbriefed on the South and Central Asia RegionalConsultations highlighting both preparatory meetingsand the many issues which came out of the RC itselfEmmi Antinoja WHS secretariat briefed on the PacificRegional Consultations and thanked IASC agencies fortheir joint efforts in organizing consultations in the leadup to the RC She detailed the six priorities that cameout of the RC The discussion section focused on whentaskable action recommendations might be made aswell as the synthesis report and the SGrsquos report Otherissues discussed were IASCs multiyear planning anddevelopment of priorities for 2016shy2017 in particularwith regard to preparedness but also protractedcrises humanitarian financing natural disastersclimate change and localization of response Somalia Briefing by IOM (New York 14August 2015)

YemenAccording to ERCUSG Stephen OrsquoBrienrsquos Statement to the Security Council on Yemenon World Humanitarian Day 80 per cent of Yemenis require humanitarian assistanceand nearly 15 million people are internally displaced as a result of the conflict As of 27August 19 per cent of the US$16 billion in requested humanitarian aid has been fundedThere is widespread scarcity of food and fuel resulting from impediments to commercialimports and airstrikes in and around Hudaydah port The shortage of funding hascreated the possibility of famine for millions of Yemenis The Yemen L3 status will bereviewed by the IASC Principals at the end of September

Ad Hoc Principals Meeting on SecurityAt DSS request the IASC Secretariat organized a briefing by USG Drennan on securitythreats and mitigating measures The meeting provided a sobering reminder of thesecurity risks faced by humanitarian organizations in different parts of the world TheERC noted that security must be more systematically on the humanitarian agenda andthat IASC Principals must provide leadership to ensure that security measures andanalyses are factored in decisionmaking He also provided an update on the effortsunderway to revise the UNshyNGO collaboration framework Saving lives Together
