On one hand I think that technology benefits the film industry because…• Technology makes collecting both primary and secondary research on films easy.• New technology means that film companies can generate a lot more money because they are

able to target a wide audience with their advertising campaigns.• They can advertise in more ways that allow them to teach a large amount of people at once.

E.g. Facebook, YouTube, Electronic billboards, etc.• Technology means that buying films/buying tickets/accessing content is easier than ever. You

can order tickets online, or in person. You can watch films on Netflix, you can order films from amazing at the touch of a button etc.

• Technology has enabled people in the film industry to bring audiences brand new, mind lowing experiences for example: 4D and 3D viewing. We can now also access the thrill of 3D in the comfort of our own home with the development of 3D TV’s etc.

• New technology has enabled us to edit films differently, making it possible to add amazing new special effects into them to make them more realistic.

• technology makes everything accessible. For example, we can now watch things when and where we want to. E.g. BBC I player.

On the other hand, I think that technology may not benefit the film industry because…

Technology can warp peoples perception of reality/beauty/what’s ok and not ok to do. Technology has made it easier for people to illegally download content meaning the film

industry can loose money. cinema plays a large role in the film industry. The development of new technology means that

more people are able to watch new releases from the comfort of their own home. So the act of going to the cinema may start to go out of fashion.

today, anyone who has watched a film is able to express theirs views about what they thought of it to a massive audience if they really wanted to. Developments in technology mean that bad publicity about recently released films is able to spread extremely quickly.

unnecessary technology is being created. We don’t need it in order to create amazing movies.

My Conclusion…Thanks to technology, we have turned cinema from something that once could only be seen in a theatre to a mind blowing experience that captivates each of the viewers emotions or senses in order to make them feel as if they were part of the story, therefore I think that technology is a massive benefit to the film industry. Over the last hundred years, advances in technology mean that we can now deliver out of this world experiences to audiences anywhere in the world. Today, the film industry is something that can fit itself into the lifestyle of anyone, weather you are the sort of person that likes to sit in, and experience things from the comfort of your own home, Or if you are the kind of person who loves going out and trying new things like an IMAX experience, or 4D/5D screenings. The development of different special effects also allows us to create amazingly high quality films that people want to see. A lot of the time, people will want to come and see new releases just to witness the amazing new special effects.Technology today allows production companies in the film industry to reach a much wider audience with their footage. Thanks to the development of several social media websites such as Facebook, Twitter etc. the film industry is now faced with several advertising opportunities that are both highly effective a well as free. Also I feel that because of social networking websites, we have now built an online community where celebrities and regular people/fans can mix freely and share their opinions on whatever they please. The stereotype of celebrities being at a higher social level than that of regular people has now been broken. This means that celebrity endorsement of films/products has now become a lot easier and more effective for film companies as a method of advertising as it only takes one tweet for a celebrity to reach and influence their entire fan base.
