1. What motivates Anna to file the lawsuit, and how does this motivation relate to Anna’s stated intent to gain control over life with the lawsuit? At first we believe Kates motivations to file the lawsuit were personal and believed it had nothing to do with being her sister Anna’s decision. 2. Sara’s chapters take place almost entirely in the past. What is the significance in this? So we can see the challenges she has had to face and the changes that have occurred 3. Which character changes the most, and which changes the least? The character that changes the most is Anna because of her illness. The character that we see change very much is Brian. 4. What are the central ethical questions present in the story? That we have to respect others wishes and realise that others are involved when people are sick. 5. My sister’s keeper is told from many different viewpoints. How did hearing from each character change your opinions of them and of the situation? Because you can see how everyone has change and dealt with Anna sickness and the stresses that the family has gone through. 6. Do you think Sara is a good mother? Do you sympathize with her? How does her martyrdom affect the rest of the family? Sara unintentionally puts extra pressure on the family with following through with the court case. She is just trying to do what is best for her family and the other people around it. 7. Discuss consequences of the trial other than the ruling, in what ways does it force people to deal with issues in their relationships? Sara and Brian? Anna and her parents? After Brian contradicts what Sara believes, it makes their relationship begin to crumble. We see this most when Brian wants to take her to the beach and Sara believes it is not the right thing. After Sara finally agrees that this will help her, she meets them at the beach. Anna and her parents relationship is affected because they cannot understand the pressure that her disease has put on her. 8. What role does Kate play in the family?
