MY SCHOOL DC LOTTERY
The My School DC lottery gives families the opportunity to apply for available seats in early childhood programs for 3- and 4-year-olds, out of boundary DCPS schools in grades K-12, citywide schools, DCPS application high schools, and participating charter schools. A single, random lottery is run by My School DC to determine placement of new students at all participating schools. The Office of the State Superintendent of Education oversees the My School DC lottery in collaboration with DCPS, the Public Charter School Board, and participating charter schools.
To learn more about the lottery process, visit: www.myschooldc.org
2019 Family Guide to DCPS High Schools
Citywide: a school that does not have a boundary and therefore cannot be claimed as an in-boundary school. Citywide schools can only be accessed through the lottery and do not provide guaranteed enrollment to any new student. Ron Brown is the only DCPS citywide application high school.
Selective: a school or program that admits students based on specific eligibility criteria. DCPS has eight selective application high schools and programs: Banneker, Bard DC, Columbia Heights Education Campus, Duke Ellington, Early College Academy at Coolidge High School, McKinley Tech, Phelps, and School Without Walls.
Destination School (also feeder pattern school): a middle, high, or education campus school that a student has a right to attend based on the student completing the terminal grade at an elementary or middle school during the previous school year.
Application high school: a DCPS high school or program that requires an application for entry into the school. There are two types of DCPS application high schools and programs.
Out-of-boundary school: a school other than a student’s in-boundary school.
