DRESS it uP
siMPLE AnD CLAssY I created a somewhat simple layout with some flowers, a bit of string, and some other goodies. The page is simple, yet complete.
DrEss it uP But since I’m a girl who likes my pages full of goodies, I dressed it up with more flowers, chipboard, wood tickets, tabs, old coins, and even more flowers! Now I have a page full of little details, but the photo is still the main focus!

JuiLLEt 12Marie-Nicolas used the DD Stencil with Yellow Sunshine Adirondack Ink by Ranger to create the backdrop. Next she added some watercolor splashes, a cameo cut out in pink, and a Lifetime tag. Cluster the Prima embellishments in the corner of the photo and add Say It In Crystals to add sparkle to the page.
Hint: A little sparkle goes a long way!

1 Take a 12 x12 piece of patterned
paper and tear a few openings from the
edges of the background paper. Place
contrasting pieces of paper behind the
openings. This is a great way to use up
scrap pieces of paper.
2 Cut two pieces of paper to back your
photo with. One will measure 4”x 6” The
other is a 4” x 4”. You can add other
scrap pieces of paper under the photos to
add more layers.
3 Once you have your papers cut, place
them down at angles on your page.
Before you glue them down, set your
photo on top to see if you need to adjust
anything. Glue your layers down. To add
dimension use your fi ngers to pull the
edges up and make them look distressed.
4 Before you put your embellishments
down use some India ink to add a rough
circle around your photo. This will help
draw attention to your picture. Add ink
splatters around the page to
help pull out the colors of your photo.
I use a wet paint brush, dip it into the
ink, and tap the brush with my fi nger to create the splattered look.
5 Add a label spot in the upper corner by
layering washi tape with a few cutouts
from the paper line. Embellish around the
photo with metal frame pieces, fl owers,
and cutouts from the Prima paper.
Tip: Try using fl owers that are the same,
or similar color, to colors in your photo. It
will help make your photo the main focal
point of your project.

1 As a base use the `Fasola` paper
from the Lifetime collection. Cut
approx 6x8in (15x20cm) from the
`Blue Bayou` paper and place in the
center of your base.
2 Randomly add some pieces of
paper from old books and strips of
masking tape. Apply a white acrylic
paint - leave to dry.
3 Cut Grazia paper and Blue Bayou
paper - both approx 4x5.5in. Distress
edges using the Prima Distressing
Tool by Ingvild Bolme and ink the
edges using a chalk edger. Place
both papers on layout as shown.
Add some extra pieces of masking
tape and your photo.
4 Using Cosmic Shimmer Mist, mist
your work as shown. When the paint
is dry, apply Distress Stain in a few
random places. To create a lighter
color, add some water using a paint
brush.
5 Use your favorite Prima stamps
and ink in random places.
6 Add your title, some brads, and
chipboard elements.
7 Make some doodles using liquid
pearls and a black gel pen. Finish by
adding some random black splatters.

WHERE WECREATEinside the studio of JaimeDougherty
Hello, Jamie Dougherty here to give you a little tour of
my creative space. I am a California girl who was born
and raised in the same small town in Southern California
where my husband and I now raise our two children. I
have been creating art since my teens, but I really got
into scrapbooking when my daughter was born nine
years ago. I was your basic scrapper; cut, paste, repeat.
Then I fi gured, “Why not include my fi ne arts background
into my work?” So I slowly intertwined the two together.
As you can see my room is as eclectic as my work. I
am not a neat-and-tidy sort of artist. If it wasn’t for this
issue, you would most likely see piles of paper and paint
scattered all over my room. But, there is always that day
when you have to clean up the mess to start a new one,
right? Besides, the close knit relationship I have with
my mess, I also have with places to store my supplies.
I look for inexpensive ways to store my goodies. With
paint and ink fl ying I try not to spend too much money
on my storage solutions. It will just get covered in mess
anyways. I look for fi nds at IKEA, or wait until I fi nd
a sale at one the big chain stores. When you are in a
smaller space, storage is the key. If you feel overwhelmed
where you work you won’t have the desire to create.
Thank you for stopping by to check out my space.
You’ll catch a few glimpses of Prima goodies on the way
through; and I hope I have given you a few ideas on how
to neatly situate your creative space.
{ 22 } My PriMa Place
1. wHAt insPirED Your DEsign AnD tHE CoLors oF Your CrAFt rooM?
I love pops of color, nothing to
overwhelming but just enough to inspire
me. As you can see I am in a somewhat
small area so I utilize my room as much as
possible.
2. How Do You storE Your PriMA ProDuCts?
I use plastic totes (you can find them
at your local Walmart, Target, etc.) I
label each tote by flower size and/+or
embellishment type. That way I can
choose the box that best suits my current
project.
3. How Do You DisPLAY/storE Your PriMA ProJECts?
I hang some of my layouts on the walls of
my home in Prima wood frames. I rotate
them out every so often. I also have a
display case where I keep some of my
mixed media pieces. Why not share them?
What good are they if they are hidden
away?
4. wHAt is Your FAvoritE PiECE oF FurniturE in Your rooM?
My favorite piece is my desk unit. I have
two tables put into an L shape that gives
me a massive amount of room to work on.
Plus I have stackable shelves on top for
additional storage. I found all of these at
IKEA.
5. How MuCH tiME PEr wEEk Do You sPEnD in Your CrAFt rooM?
I would have to say at least two hours a
day and, sometimes, I can spend an entire
day on the weekends. I’ve seen the sun
rise a time or two.
6. wHAt tiME oF tHE DAY Do You usuALLY CrEAtE?
Most of my creating is done in the
evenings. I am a night owl and the old
brain doesn’t like to shut off, so...I create
once everyone else has gone to bed.
7. Do You HAvE An insPirAtion boArD AnD iF so wHAt wouLD You bE Most LikELY to HAvE PinnED on it?
I have a couple. On one board I have
projects my kids have made for me. They,
themselves, inspire me. They are my
greatest creations. I also have a board
with little projects I’ve done in the past. It
gives me starting points on new projects.
Plus you can’t go wrong with Pinterest.

8. Do You ListEn to MusiC or wAtCH tELEvision wHiLE You CrEAtE?
I usually will have some type of noise on
in the background. I think it’s from having
kiddos. I need that background noise to
keep me from concentrating too much
LOL.
9. iF You CouLD CHAngE onE tHing About Your rooM, wHAt wouLD it bE?
The size. I could use more storage space.
I love what I have in the room, but a little
more space would be nice.
10. wHAt is Your ALL tiME FAvoritE PriMA ProDuCt?
You like to ask the hard questions, don’t
ya? I love all of what Prima comes out
with. If I didn’t I wouldn’t be here, right?
I’m a little biased with my answer, but my
all-time favorite would have to be the
Sassy Felt Flowers I designed for Prima
last year. My other Prima fave would be
Say It In Crystals. You can never go wrong
with bling.

2 Spread Gesso over the whole
canvas and let it dry.
3 Glue pieces of plastic mesh
randomly on the canvas.
4 Spread molding paste over the
canvas using a wave stencil. Let it
dry.
5 Paint canvas’ edges in gray acrylic
paint.
6 Lightly paint canvas in turquoise
paint. Then spray water in the center
of the canvas and let the paint drip
down to the bottom. The more water
you spray, the lighter the color will
be.
7 Repeat the same procedure with
the Cobalt Blue paint.
8 Then repeat steps 1-7 for the 6x8
Canvas.
9 Once Both canvases are dry, glue
the picture onto the 5x7 Canvas and
mount it on the 6x8 Canvas.
10 For added dimension, print two
5x7 pictures. Cut around the photo
and mount it on the other one.
11 Cut the 12x12 Shabby Chic paper
in half and around the edges. Glue
both pieces together to make a
smaller background. Then Ink the
edges with Old Rose fluid chalk.
12 Ink the edges of the resist canvas
swirls with Brick Wall fluid chalk.
13 Decorate around the picture with
flowers, embellishments and resist
canvas swirls.
14 Glue pieces of gauze under the
flowers.
15 Dab white textured paste over
the red and turquoise flowers.
16 Lightly dab Brick Wall fluid chalk
over the white flowers.
17 Finally spread red pearls on two
corners of the canvas.
TIP: Glue all the elements on the
canvas with a glue gun.

Four by nic Howard (new Zealand)
Our gorgeous pup, Penny, is a year old now and such a treasured member of the family. This photo was taken on a whim on Christmas Eve as the kids played outside with her. Although not a planned photo, this picture reflects beautifully the relationship between family pet and children, so much that
they call her ‘one of the kids’ now, hence the title ‘Four’. The neutral papers of the Engraver collection paired with the gorgeous pinks of the Labelle flowers make a lovely girlie page, perfect for the extra girl we have welcomed into the family!
