To the prophets … the exile
appeared as a necessary prelude
to the re-establishment of a holy
community in the city and land of
their fathers.
It is clear they expected the
Messiah to appear during the life-
time of the restored Jerusalem
The Gospel record is seen as
a continuation and completion
of the events begun in Ezra!
From the standpoint of the
historical record, there is no
“break” between the Old and
New Testaments!
The events in the four gospels--
Matthew, Mark, Luke and John—are
presented as the fulfillment of God’s
prior activities, not a new, detached
operation!

a historical and messianic
application.

Prophecy is how God
validates His Word.
“I declare the end from
the beginning, and from
ancient times things that
are not yet done.”

It is important to see prophecy
from God’s perspective. The Bible
portrays Him as the controller of
future events. He knows the future
because He will make it happen.
The Bible is history in advance.
Fulfilled prophecy is unmistakable
proof of God’s inspiration of
Scripture.
No other “holy book” utilizes
prophecy in the same way that
the Bible does.
The Muslims have prophecy – but
it is entirely apocalyptic. One
cannot demonstrate accuracy or
that their message is from God
when their prophecies could be
self-caused and they have no
historical track record prior to
“end time” issues.
Jesus is the only religious leader who
had prophecies written about Him.

UNLIKE OTHER RELIGIOUS LITERATURE
The Bible covers religious events – here the
incarnation – and links it linguistically with
the fact that there was a Governor of Syria.
The virgin birth occurred in ordinary history
with time-space-matter considerations.
There is no distinction between
supernatural events and natural events as
far as their historicity is concerned.
