other branch of bank than a letter is to be sent to that branch for verification of

Mother’s Name and her CNIC no is also made compulsory as per SBP directives.
We get the information how to fill the application for account opening and issuance of
term deposit receipt.
In opening of account, 3 parties are involved
1 The 1st person is account holder or opener
BAHRIA UNIVERSITY
9
2 The 2nd one is his nominee
3 The 3rd one is introducer
After that we make entries in bank book or register regarding all the information of
account holder and introducer.
In the last, letter of thanks were sent to account holder and to the introducer from the
bank.
DAY BOOK
In the day book we check daily transaction of cheque, vouchers and cash receipts.
We check all DR and CR transactions of Customer accounts as well as all GL Heads .In
Pls & Current accounts if the withdrawal of cash is above Rs.25000 then 2% government
with holding tax should be deducted. This tax deduction is applicable only on cash
transactions. If the account holder wants to save the withholding tax then he can make
transactions in Transfer. A build-in system in computer deducts this tax from accounts of
customers.
PENSION & BENEVOLENT FUND
We practice on checking benevolent fund in which payment order no, issuing and
approval dates both are mention. In this some percentage of amounts is given by Govt: to
it retired employee. An increase is also announced by Govt: time to time. The current
increase announced by Govt: is 15 & 20 percent depending on date of retirement.
HOW TO MAKE VOUCHER OF BENEVOLENT FUND TO RECEIVE THE
PAYMENTS AND ITS PROCEDURE.
DEMAND DRAFT PURCHASE ACCOUNT
Bank on his side write the account of benevolent fund as a debit balance and give the
amount to persons holding benevolent fund in its voucher and send the amount through
DDP to Islamabad main branch after clearance of the amount from main branch
Islamabad then the bank write it as a credit balance and close this DDP account.
BAHRIA UNIVERSITY
10
Benevolent fund make on the three vouchers which have master and duplicate copy, also
three branch stamps has to be affixed on this voucher before sending it to Islamabad
branch which are
DDP stamp
BRANH stamp
Discharge Stamp for realization of amount
It consists of 3 vouchers
Master copy and 2 are duplicate copy in one of duplicate copy there is a duplicate
stamped. After that we sent collection to main branch Islamabad for the realization
AUDIT
In NBP the audit are of two type
1) Internal audit
The internal audit is done by the internal employees in the organization. The internal
audit is done as annually, quarterly as every 4 month and surprise inspection by the main
branch. The responsibility of the internal auditor is to check the previous month audit
report for the verification.
The nature of internal audit is concern with the examination of records after their
completion the errors and the fraud may be detected from the record. So the internal audit
conducted by the special staff. And the procedure of work is that the accounting staff is
checked all the recorded transactions.
BAHRIA UNIVERSITY
11
So due to internal audit the auditor investigate the internal organization activities and the
finally he submitted the report to the organization manager.
2) External audit
In the external audit are usually a chartered accountant and the auditor were assigning by
the branch office he is not an employee of the organization. He is an independent person.
So it is not a part of internal control and in this the auditor cannot suggest improvement
in the internal check system.
The external audit can perform his work according to term of appointment and the scope
is very wide. The auditor can check the true and fairs view of earning capacity and
financial position.
In the external audit have two steps
1) Hire by the organization.
2) Monetary
The bank hire the auditor if it worth is 1 million external audit is mostly done by the state
bank as annually or surprise inspection. External audit depends upon the size of the
branch. In NBP external audit was done by the FARGOSON groups.

General Ledger ACCOUNT
General ledger account is very important account for any bank this account maintain
every day from one branch to another branch and the time period for GL account is
within 30 days after that the penalty will be given which is a huge amount
In the GL account the bank check the amount code (branch), confirm in the other branch
if the amount is big.
In the GL NBP account it include income tax voucher, property tax etc.
For the responding branch debit voucher for salary transfer from steel mill.
The NBP make F-15 RBV DR of steel mill at the time of payment and CR NBP general.
And account no and code of GL is 100, in every branch of NBP.
NBP debit its DDP account and gave money to person and send its document to
Islamabad where they collect its payment from different department and then they credit
its account when they receive/collect the amount so Islamabad debit its all account.
EOBI(EMPLOYEMENT OLD AGE BENEFIT INSTITUTION)
In this account the amount come from the main branch and NBP pay pension to the
person every month and the remaining amount send back to main branch.
EOBI is basically an institution who deals the pension system of Governmental
organization and gave the amount to the pensioner; this amount is basically deducted
from employee’s monthly salary and after retirement pensioner take this amount
BAHRIA UNIVERSITY
13
The NBP take the document of the person which include document with the sealed, his
name, monthly salary amount, name of the organization, job description etc. then NBP
verify all the documents.
After check then NBP make the pensioner file and assign the PPO number and put the
entire necessary document in this file
HOW TO MAKE THE PENTION BILL
NBP take two forms from pensioner that is STR 35 and 72, TR 36. Register of pension
payment is always made by treasury department. It is also called PPO (pension payment
order) and true copy form.
CATAGORY
1) Civil pensioner.
2) Federal government.
3) Army/navy/ air force.
So the pension distribution system is segmented into above mention departments. All the
department deals with its own pension system but as it all belongs to government so bank
are involved
AGPR deals with cabinet hospitals and federal department pension they issue letter to
treasury department then they send to bank in treasury dept. form stamps are necessary
People get the pension on his basic salary the ratio depend upon 65/35. After taken the
pension payment for 15 years then pension was increased by government.
If the pensioners are wife and she died then her pension transfer to her mother not the
child.

Conclusion
In the end of the report I would like to say that I learn a lot in NBP internship, and I got
complete knowledge of working environment of bank and I also enjoy my internship
because all member heartily cooperate with me. I know how branch is operating.
Because I learn all branch operations during my training period. This internship also
helps me when I got job in any bank because I know very well how to work in bank.
BAHRIA UNIVERSITY
24
Recommendations
NBP should computerize all its work because I noticed that during my training
employee’s still record lockers, email, and payoders, demand drafts etc record
manually.
NBP is first bank of Pakistan so its employees are less educated it must hire
highly qualified employees.
I suggest to NBP that an operation manager room must be separated from all staff
because in this branch where I got my training only one separate room for
G.Manager.
An other draw back which I found that NBP close it door staturday at 1 pm
because it’s a halfday and if any needy customer come then watchman doesn’t
open door and employees never listen that customer because he or she comes late
only just one mint its not a good way to deal human being.so it must care their
customer and treat them humainly.
Finaly one main thing I were found that computers that are used by employees are
outdated it must be facilitate its employees with the latest technology.
